Chapter 23

As soon as I walked into my room, I closed the door quietly behind me in hopes that maybe Jessica fell asleep while waiting for me. I was home pretty early in the morning, but I also wasn’t eager to get the third degree. Rowan was still fresh on my mind, and I was in this hazy, blissful state of mind.

“Someone had quite a night, huh?” Jessica asked, flipping on her lamp like the dramatic prima donna she was.

I froze like a deer in the headlights. There I was, wearing oversized, clearly not mine, clothing. “What? No. Um…just lost track of time is all,” I deflected, slowly getting to my bed and dumping all of my stuff out.

“I was worried about you,” Jessica said. “Would it have killed you to send me a text message?”

I was separating the salvageable stuff from the unsalvageable stuff. I took my notebook out and started unsticking the pages together. I sighed, “I’m sorry, Jessica. I really did just lose track of time.”
