Chapter 21

Heavy raindrops began to pound against the sidewalk. I gasped as a few smacked onto my face. My bag! I drew away from Rowan, rushing to get my things back into my bag before everything got soaked. Rowan took his jacket off and held it over me as a shield.

I wiped my eyes and sniffled as I gathered my things. “I can’t believe I forgot my umbrella.”

Rowan was getting soaked above me. “My apartment is around the corner. We could wait out the rain there if you’d like,” he offered.

A crack of lightning lit up the sky. “How far?”

“It’s close, here, come on,” he said, holding his jacket over both of our heads. He led the way as we rushed to get out of the rain. Once we got to his door, he lowered his jacket, water cascading all over the stoop. I watched him fumble with his keys and he finally opened the door, letting me in first.
