Chapter 5- Rainy Day

Abigail stuffed the cat on a blanket, hoping the temperature would be warmer. After she found the kitten, she was worried that it would die before she could make it to her room, but it was surprisingly still breathing.

"Are you okay little one?" Abigail whispered. The kitten responded by twitching his ears as Abigail smiled heartwarming. She then fixed her eyes outside the window. The rain was still heavily pouring and the sun was setting already. Another day was wasted, It wasn't a surprise.

Still distracted by the view outside and the sound of the rain beating the ground, a knock on the door made her snap out of her comfort zone.

"Your Majesty" Cara curtseys while holding a bowl of milk.

"I brought what you asked for" Cara stepped forward as she placed the bowl of milk next to Abigail who forged a reassuring smile.

"Are you feeling better My Lady?" Cara asked concerned.

"Yes, thank you Cara" Abigail lied but Cara could see right through that pitiful smile

"I don't believe you. I can tell through those numb puffy eyes of yours. You're soaked my lady" Cara pointed out.

"I was in the rain Cara" Abigail answered spontaneously. Though that wasn't the solid reason she was expecting, Cara just dropped the subject as her eyes were immediately focused on a tiny creature sleeping on Abigail's lap. Catching her gaze and confusion, Abigail smiled warmly.

"I found this little fella sleeping under the bleachers outside" Abigail pointed out grieffully while softly drying his fur with a towel.

Cara smiled seeing how affectionate she was, she couldn't remember the last time Abigail had shown such affection or even smiled warmly. After her biological mother passed away due to an unknown sickness, Abigail grew up to be cold and depressed. She started to become distant from not just her sister, but to her relatives and other nobles in different regions. She never comes out during the day and always locks herself indoors not stepping outside the castle gates. It was like she was living the life of a vampire. Cara always felt pity towards her, and still does seeing the stress she's been through with the whole Engagement thing. The weight of the world was on her Queen's shoulders and there was nothing she could do to help but to serve Abigail and accept any decision she made.

"Have you gotten a name for it?" Cara questioned smiling back.

"I haven't thought of it. But I'll call you-" Abigail held him up high

"Puddins-" She names. Puddin's eyes opened for the first time Abigail was shocked by how beautifully green his eyes were. It almost reminded her of- Carol.

'No'

She shook her head disagreeing with her foolish thoughts. This felt so shameful. How could she think of that jerk after what he's done so far?

"Are you okay my queen?" Cara muttered seeing the puzzled expression that was plastered on her face.

"I'm fine. Something just came up" Abigail responded with a weak smile.

She stared out the window and it was pouring hard. The sound of thunder collaborated with the lighting on the dark stormy sky.

"My queen, you should take that off, you're all soaked. I'll warm a bath for you" Cara says convincingly, leaving the room without waiting for Abigail's response.

"AH- ok," She agrees after Cara leaves the room.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The night approached as Abigail lay on her bed stiffly, almost like she was in a coffin. She could sleep a wink, hence, react to her worries. She felt extremely uncomfortable, the only thing she could even think about was the marriage in less than a week. Not that she was excited, it was irrationally the opposite of her expectation.

Normally, Engagements are supposed to be the best day of a woman's life, but this! This was just torture. Abigail looked at the ceiling, tears streaking down her eyes, she was tired of crying all day but for some reason, her tears weren't.

She kept turning back and forth on her bed.

Just then, Abigail felt something crawl on her. She felt the delicate paws of puddin' touching her skin as it climbed on her and sleeps right beside her.

As little as it seemed, it was just the comfort she needed.

Surprisingly, she starts to feel tired after such a long time and countless nights. She carried Puddin on her belly as they both slowly start to wither away in a deep sleep with the night lights on.

Hopefully, her fate would change tomorrow.
