"Ouch" Eve woke up to feel her head aching. Where am I? It's so dark in here. Where could I be? She asked herself.
She could feel the hard cold floor against her skin where she had been dropped. She tried to move but I could not. I could not even feel her body.
I...I can't move! She panicked. She could not believe the kind of bad luck she had that day. First the nightmare, then the horrible experience of watching her nightmare happen.
What's happening to me? Who put me here? Who's doing all this? I hope this is just a another nightmare. She wished within herself. But deep down, she knew it was real.
"Help! Is anyone there? Please help me!" She shouted with every strength she could muster only to hear her voice echo back. With that, she figured It might be a big empty room.
"Finally, our sleeping princess has awoken." A man with a very deep voice said in the dark. There was no light. So she could not see him. She could only hear his voice.
Immediately she heard his voice, she somehow knew he was not there to help her. For all she knew, he could be her kidnapper.
"Who are you? Where am I? Why can't I move? What did you do to me? Where are my parents?" she said as she tried to move, set herself free from whatever sorcery that paralysed her body.
"That's a lot questions, Jane" he called her by the name her mother would always call her in her dreams. And one thing she had learnt so far, was that her dreams were far from ordinary. She needed to find out how he new her by that name.
"Jane? My name is Evelyn Emerald. Not Jane, silly. You must be mistaking me for someone else"
"Looks like the witch did a pretty good job erasing your memory."
She looked at him confused. She could not believe someone in this century still believed that witches existed.
"What's it princess? Oh! You don't believe me, do you? You must think I'm crazy"
At least he knew he had lost a few screw in his head.
She must have been him the you-are-crazy look because he laughed when she did not deny his speculation.
"You.... you really think I'm crazy" he said between laughs.
Eve didn't know why but she found his laughter very annoying.
"Okay, let's see. Can you remember anything from your childhood? Your thirteenth birthday to be precise" He asked.
"Of course I can. I..." Wait a minute. She....she couldn't. She could not remember anything about it.
"See?" He said before laughing again
Now, his laughter was irritating.
"Why did you bring me here if laughing is all you planned to do. Where are my parents? Why did you attack us?" She screamed in anger because the only part of her body that she could move was her mouth.
"I didn't kill them. The royal guards did. As a matter of fact, I saved you. You would have been dead if I hadn't gotten you out of there in time."He yelled; his deep baritone matching the pitch of her voice as it kept echoing.
What was wrong with him?
He had just switched from laughing mode to angry mode in a second.
He switched on the light and faced her. Now, she could see where she was and the face of her kidnapper.
It was not a big empty room. It was a large empty warehouse.
"Pardon me for the outburst. I hate it when I'm accused wrongly." He apologized solemnly . He seemed calm now.
With the lights on, Eve could see he was sincere about his apology. He had this adorable and innocent face that could make anyone forget about their anger. He looked nothing like the ugly man who stabbed her mother.
Mom....
She needed to find her mother soon.
"If you're truly sorry, undo whatever you did to my body."
"No. You'll try to run from me and I'm not ready to play run and catch." He said with a smirk on his face.
Now, she didn't think he was that adorable and innocent. He was cunning. But, so was she.
"I won't. Promise." She gave him the pitiful doggy eyes expression as she promised.
He blinked.
She tried moving and her body obeyed her this time. Her pitiful doggy eyes expression works on him too! She had always tried that trick with her parents and it had always worked. She just could not believe it worked on him too.
Mom...dad
She had to find them and make sure they were alright.
"I need to find my parents" She stood up only to see her kidnapper/rescuer standing so close to her.
He had been at the other end of the room (where the switch was) a moment ago. How had he gotten to her so fast?
Seeing him up close, she realized that he was really tall. Standing so close to her, she looked little. She could barely reach his shoulder. She was five feet 6 six inches tall, So, she definitely was not short. She was taller than most of her friends.
"Your parents are dead and the police is in your house. It's not safe now" he said bluntly like he was just talking about the weather.
" No! They are not be dead." They just could not be. Because that would make her an orphan. They had to be alive somewhere, somehow. Even when her memory reminded her of how badly hurt her parents were, she still held on to hope.
"I know it's hard to believe but....." He tried to coming closer to her but she pushed him away.
"Okay...if the police are in my house, then I should meet them now" She said trying to push back the tears that was threatening to come out.
"You can't go. The police there are not themselves. I think someone put a Spell on them"
"There you go again. There's nothing like witches and spells!"
"Says the Grand witch."
"You're crazy. I'm not a witch. Who are you anyway?"
"It doesn't matter now. What matters now is finding the Pendant so that we can break the erasing spell."
"What pendant? You're not making any sense." The guy might be cute but he had definitely lost his mind. Eve said to herself.
She needed to go home.
She found her way out, expecting him to stop her but he didn't.
🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃
The warehouse was not far from her home. It was the wasted warehouse at the outskirts of the small town she lived in. Ten minutes walk and she would be home.
Eve reached home within minutes. Her house was just a simple bungalow with just two rooms, a bathroom and a kitchen that was connected to the sitting room.
There was a back door in the kitchen that lead to her mother's little garden. Her mother loved flowers so she grew different flowers in the garden and at every corner of the compound. Did she just say loved? Her mother wasn't dead. She just had to find her. She wouldn't believe until she saw her body. She had to be alive; her father too.
She passed through the back door that leading to the kitchen. The kitchen and sitting room was empty and neat. As if nothing had happened that evening.
She saw a police officer outside. She wanted to call out to them and ask for her parents but her instincts did not agree.
"We...we couldn't find her, Sir" the police officer said in fear. Why was he scared? Who was he talking to anyway?
Eve hid behind the curtain and looked over. She could hardly believe what she saw. The face she saw was the face she would never forget.
The person the police officer was talking to was the same man that had stabbed her mother. What was the police officer doing with that man?
"The vampire couldn't have taken her far. He needs the pendant too." The man was still wearing a fairy costume; but the wings looked real.
She was going to make him pay for attacking her home. Pain and anger hit her hard and everything was red except the man she wanted to attack.
When she moved away from the curtain, she felt a hand drag her back to the kitchen.
