27 Chapter 27 : Hatching a companion egg

Shield's monitoring continued for another 2 more weeks after he fainted. He knows this because after he went home from the clinic, no monitoring equipment could be found in his house.

He didn't feel like he's in the clear yet, so he waited a few more days. During which, an agent with a receding hairline, Phil Coulson comes to talk to him.

"I need to thank you properly for your help. Because you saved Barbara, we can get early information about the vampire plan, and we managed to stop it"

In Kai's heart he knows that they don't do shit, it was Blade who did it. "But who knows what really happens as this is the real world and not a movie."

Kai's disinterest about Phil's bait causes the agent some headache. "Couldn't you at least ask what the plan was?" he curses in his heart, but he still maintains a gentle smile on his face.

Kai asks Phil another question instead. "Who are 'we' exactly?". Phil, who heard that, is excited and says "We are the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistic Division, we specialise in accidents that may cause threat to the world".

Kai interjected "That's a really long name. Couldn't you just use acronyms instead like SHIELD. You have great luck that your acronyms spell exactly like the original word."

He actually wants to tease Coulson, but then he sees that Coulson is thinking seriously about what he says." Wait for real? Didn't Carter already call it Shield? "

" That's a really great name, I'll recommend it to the director and give you the credit. " Phil said, feeling happy.

" I don't need any, and I also have the feeling that you didn't come here just to thank me, do you?" Kai felt a little bit guilty, so he at least was going to listen to what the agent got to say.

Phil is helpless, he wants to control the flow of the conversation. Kai has an excellent observation skill, he really wants him to become an agent in SHIELD.

But despite that, Kai's comprehensive report and psychological evaluation show there's a 90% chance he's gonna reject joining them.

Phil extended his invitation to join Shield, and gave him great benefits for joining. But as expected, Kai rejected the invitation.

"Don't look so sad Coulson, if you really need help, you can come to me. I prefer to give help medically, but you act accordingly okay?"

Coulson is glad because of Kai's offer. At the very least, he didn't cut off all chances of cooperation in the future. While the plan to slowly pull Kai's over under the banner of Shield is brewing inside his mind, Coulson gets a notification.

He needed to report to headquarters immediately .He left after saying his goodbyes and giving his personal number to Kai. "You can call me whenever. Shield is indebted to you"

In the monitoring room at Triskelion building. A lot of female agents are sulking because of what happened. " Now, I don't have my idol anymore. How am I going to sleep without hearing him play the piano?", a random female agent said.

Barbara, who is among the female agents, is also depressed. "I have no excuses to meet him yet. I'll find excuses! Just wait for me!" She mutters. She didn't know that she is going for a long period of undercover that will take years after this.

When Coulson is in the building, these female agents will glare at him subtly, even when he is a senior agent. He is helpless about this." Kai has given too much impact on these new agents."

Most of those who are in the monitoring job are newbie agents, and not field agents. But when Barbara, a senior field agent, is also giving him the stink eye, Coulson becomes depressed like them.

Shields backing away is great for Kai. "I have waited too long for this," he said excitedly. He bought the eggs on the day he became legendary, but he had to wait until now to hatch it.

There were a total of 4 eggs that he bought. One appraised egg, and another 3 is a random egg. As the level is only legendary, he didn't want to have too many eggs.

The appraisal egg he bought is called the corpse vine. "The name sounds sinister, but the vine actually is a healing type of companion beast." If there's an appraisal screen for the beast, it'll look like this.

When summoned, the beast looked exactly like a slithering stick, its length didn't even reach a meter. Kai looked at the piece of stick in awe, he could feel its consciousness. "It's telling me nice to meet you?"

If he wants to, he can summon it back any time, without a distance limit. He can also feel the beast's strength. If it wants to, a normal human is no match for it.

Kai is satisfied with his first companion. He turns to the other egg to hatch them out. He took out a green egg that had a rough surface. The feeling of hatching a random companion egg is like buying roulette in mobile games. It may be a dud, or may be the best. "I shouldn't get addicted to this"

The incubation process took a while, and Kai needed to use an essence energy crystal to replenish his energy. It seems like his energy is still too weak for continuous incubation.

The moment the eggs hatched, he heard a loud shriek . The shriek or roar is so loud that it causes Skye to run into Kai's room. Kai quickly summoned the beast back into his body before he could check it.

"What happened Kai! I heard a roar!!" Skye asks while panicking. And a little bit over excited.

"What roar?" Kai played dumb facing Skye's question. Skye observed Kai's room and didn't find anything strange. She explained what she heard to Kai "I heard a loud roar, like a big animal roar"

"You didn't hear it?" she asks with an innocent face. Kai has a bad intention and says "What does it sound like?" Skye brightens up, and starts to imitate the sound. " it sounded like 'Roarrrr' … or more similar to ' Chirp-Roar".

Kai smiles watching Skye making roaring sounds over and over trying to figure out which one she heard. Skye who is hard at work, finally notices Kai expression, get embarrassed, curses "D*mn it" and runs to her room. She got teased again.

He guffawed seeing his kid antics. Skye who's in the other room heard him laughing , got even more embarrassed for behaving like a child." I'm almost 16 now for god's sake! Stop making it so easy for him! " She mutters while burying her face in her pillow.

Ignoring Skye's agony, Kai sends a message to his companion beast before he summons it again. "This time, try to keep a little bit quiet".

A tall beast at 3.5 meter height is summoned into the room. It has a head like an Eagle, a body like a horse, and it also has a pair of magnificent bird-like wings on its body.The beast has dark-grey feathers on it.

"Never thought I'd see a hippogriff in real time." Kai said in awe of the magnificent beast. The beast then kindly lowers his head for his contractor to touch as it senses that he wants to do that.

"Sooo soft!" While patting the hippogriff's head, he checks out the beast's stats. It's gonna look like this on a screen.

Sensing the companion form, Kai checks out the integrated form on his body. A pair of dark-grey wings comes out from his back. "The wing is rather large." He couldn't even spread it fully in the small room.

The wings by no means are uncomfortable. It's like a pair of limbs he has had since birth. He's satisfied with the first beast he got from the random egg." A flying-speed type companion beast with flying ability."

Kai wants to hatch more eggs. But his energy is bottomed out. He then took a rest for the day, and plans on hatching them tomorrow.

Morning comes by quickly. Today Skye has a day off. "Hurry up Skye, if we're late the DMV is gonna be full." Kai urges Skye who's late. "Wait a bit, I couldn't find my watch!" She lied. She's only just putting on her shirt as she falls asleep in the bathroom.

"You know you don't have to drive me, I can go by myself." Skye said while putting on her shoes . She's getting ready to get her driver's license today as she's gonna be 16 this year.

"If I let you go by yourself, you're gonna procrastinate again." Kai has already asked Skye to get her drivers license since new year, but she keeps putting it off. Actually, Skye wants to save enough money to do it herself, to not burden Kai again.

But he is not letting her do that when she tells him about it." If you save money, it'll be when you get tickets from the cops, I won't help you then." Kai said at the time.

She becomes irksome as he says with absolute certainty that she's gonna get a ticket from the cops.

It took until 3 in the afternoon to get her drivers license. The slowness of DMV is irreparable. Looking at Skye's excited behavior, Kai has a soft smile on his face. "It took very long at the DMV, I wish the store was still open".

"It's just 3 pm, many stores are still open? " Skye looks at Kai with a weird face. "Why are you so concerned about a store?" she thought to herself. She wants to follow up with a question but hold it in as she's afraid that Kai is setting her up to tease her again.

Kai drives for a while then he pulls over to a used car store. "Luckily it still opens" he said then he greets the salesmen. Despite Skye's reluctance to get her car bought for by Kai, he didn't give her much of a choice.

"If you don't choose one, then I'm gonna get the ugliest car here and give it to you. I'm even gonna put a label that says 'SKYE CAR' at the back of it".

After the threat, Skye shows dissatisfaction to do this on the surface, but she's really glad to get her own car! They are surveying some cars recommended by the dealer, when Kai notices a 1977, yellow Camaro with stripes in the middle. He stares at the car for a while. Skye notices and says with worry "I don't like muscle cars…"

He ignores the remark and approaches the car. Then he asked the car "You're not 'bumblebee' are you?"

The dealer : ....

Skye : ....

The car : ....

Skye face-palmed after being stunned. " You're not in a Transformers movie!" She scolded. Kai just laughs and continues to look at cars . He already brought the Transformers movie into this universe with the main body.

He narrows down to a Knights 2003 sedan and a Honda Accords. While trying to decide, he saw that Skye was glancing at the SUV, and the MPV section with a longing look.

Her original plan after running away is to save money for this type of car, and live in it. Her life changed drastically after meeting Kai.

"So what do you want to go with, the Knight or the Honda?" asked the dealer. Suddenly Kai answered. "We'll take the SUV"

Skye becomes stunned again. Kai turns to her and says "But I swear to god if you try to bolt a bed to the car, I'll push it down a river". She got embarrassed. "It's as if he could read my thoughts."

Later that night, Kai hatched the remaining egg. It seems his luck is not very good as he got a low stats legendary companion beast instead of a top level one like the hippogriff. He got a cat, and a spider.

Bakeneko (youkai ) - a cat that can sense impending danger, companion form: earring.

Silk-weaving spider - a spider that spins silk.

Companion form : spider silk thread.

The cat skills give him a sense of foreboding that something bad is gonna happen. But it's not very useful or specific. More like a six sense kind of skill. And the spider only spins webs. It can't fight. He can create a few steel-like spider silk as a trap in its companion form, which is kinda useful.

The thread also can elongate up to 2km before he runs out of energy and he can stick it to any surface. It's like his own version of spiderman webbing. The difference is that he didn't shoot from the Web launcher; instead, he needed to throw it by hand.

"Skye, I have adopted a cat. Take care of her, will you." The cat looks like a normal cat. He couldn't bring out the hippogriff or the spider, as both are menacing.

The pure white cat with blue eyes meows when she is in Skye's arms. "Nyaa!"

Skye feels like her heart has melted. "I WILL. I WILL TAKE CARE OF HER WITH ALL MY HEART!"

A few days later. Skye comes to him with a worried expression. "Kai, the cat didn't eat or go to the bathroom. Is she sick?"

It's a blunder on his part. The companion beast can eat. But he didn't ever told the cat that, so it didn't. They won't have to go to the toilet though. Kai said "I have given her something to eat. And she goes to the bathroom to po*p. She is well trained that she could flush on her own."

Skye is in disbelief. "How can a cat flush her own p*op?". Kai controls the cat to do exactly that, and the girl become stupefied after.

Getting out of trouble, he said to her. "You believe me now? Okay you should get ready for your training. Go change your shirt."

He wants to change the topic. He could swear that the cat is glaring at him.

"It's it that time of the week again?" Her face shows a rare look of determination when training time comes.
