4 shopping and preparations

Yesterday both Susan and I received letters from Hogwarts saying we got accepted into the school. And school starts in early September of this year.

After replying to the letter, we told Amelia and she took us to Diagon Alley.

It was the first time Amelia bought us outside.

Even though I have been outside many occasions it was the first time for me in Diagon alley so I got curious about this place where most wizards get their supplies.

From Diagon Alley, a set of white stairs leads up to a set of burnished bronze doors. The doors are flanked by a goblin in a uniform of scarlet and gold. This is the entrance to Gringotts, and it leads into a small entrance hall and another set of doors. Engraved on these silver doors are the words:

Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.

Amelia directly went to the reception hall and asked for a goblin named 'Griphook'. While I was just marvelling the wonder of the building, Amelia was conversing with a goblin.

Amelia handed a key to the vault to the goblin. Goblin took the key, went inside the security vault and bought a vault full of gold. Amelia took some gold in sacks into her pouch.

After we walked out of the bank, she then took us to a shop named "Flourish and Blotts" to get books. The entire shop is filled to the brim with books. Shelves upon shelves line the walls, from ceiling to floor. The books are of all sizes and different varieties.

There are t so many books that various signs are posted throughout the shop, as a means of helping customers find what they need. Amelia handed the list of books to the manager of the shop and ordered two sets of books.

On our way to Ollivander shop to buy us a wand I asked Amelia "can I get a Moke-skin pouch mother?"

" Look, Jason Moke-skin pouches are very rare objects and there's only a handful of it present and they sell for a very high price and it is very hard to come by" hearing her I felt disappointed.

"How about I try to buy you one for Christmas? It is a rare object and it takes longer to find it so I cannot guarantee it. Is it okay?" looking at my face Amelia asked.

"Thanks, you are the best mother," I said to her with a smile.

Of course, I know the Moke-skin pouch is rare and because of that reason I asked her to buy me one in the first place and I know she won't say no after seeing my disappointed face. Do I feel guilty for manipulating her? little bit. It does not cause anything harmful for her, so I guess it's okay I think.

We entered the Ollivander shop and Ollivander from the counter gestured to us to come forward. Susan went first and Ollivander brought a bunch of wands for Susan to test it out.

When Susan selects the fifth wand it reacts to her,

"Firwood" "9½" inches "Dragon heartstring" is an excellent choice; it costs seven gallons, said Ollivander.

Next, I stepped forward and he took my hand "which is your prominent hand ?" he asked me.

"I am Ambidextrous sir "I replied

He proceeded to hand me many wands after my twentieth try and a wand reacted to me "it's been a long time since this type of wand has been picked" Ollivander said and looked at me strangely.

"Walnut 12¾" Dragon heartstring Unyielding" one of the rarest wands," twenty Galleons Ollivander said

" Can I get a wand holster for me and my sister?" I politely requested.

"Good choice boy, many people forget to buy a holster when they buy a wand," said Ollivander and he took a wand holster from a drawer and sold it to us.

After getting our wand amelia took us to "Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions" to get us Hogwarts robes and uniforms. Well, this shop was tiny compared to all the shops we visited.

"Miss bones how are you?"

"Madam Malkin you look still young as ever. I'm doing very good by the way"

"You got two little fellas with you'

"Come over here you two" amelia pulled us together.

"This handsome fellow is my son Jason Bones and the beautiful lady here is my niece Susan bones, they both are attending Hogwarts this year" Amelia introduced us.

Short after our small exchange, Madam Malkin took our measurement and asked: "any enchantments dear?"

"What type are available?" I inquired

"self-ironing and self-repairing warm inducer" Madam malkin replied

"Can you put some Extension Charm on the pockets?" I asked with a hopeful look in my eyes

"Extension Charms are advanced magic and are in strict Ministry of Magic control. There was a law in place that Extension Charms were not to be cast for private use, but only for the production of objects. This was because of its potential to create breaches of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy."

" Don't worry about that my mother is the head of DLME so she will take care of legal issues. right mother?" I looked, Amelia.

"You know honey people use it on their trunk to carry extra luggage. Why do you want it on your robe? '' Amelia questioned me with a baffled look on her face.

" I thought it would be cool when everyone carries their books in their hands to classes. I could just put it in my pockets ``I said to her looking excitedly.

" Whatever, just get it done I will take care of the paperwork," amelia said to Madam Malkin

"Extension Charms are advanced charms and it will take at least two days to get it done on a uniform. It will cost two hundred Galleons extra for the charm" said Madam Malkin to amelia

" Then I will pick it in two days" then amelia proceed to pay the money and we left the shop

We ate some ice cream from 'Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour' on our way home.

Amelia left us at home to her office for work. And Susan went to study her newly bought books.

After finishing my daily routine of strengthening my body with magic, I had some time to kill.

My mind shield got a lot stronger over the years, but I still fear someone can look into my mind or maybe I am just being paranoid.

Ten years of hard work paid off in developing my Occlumency skill, casting Legilimens without a wand, having a large magical reserve for my age and fine magical control, I'm quite proud of my achievement.

I can use my will to cast magic to move small things, light a fire and some menial tasks, anything larger still, it requires a few seconds of concentration.

There's a big difference casting magic with a wand and without it. With the wand, I can move large things.

After experimenting with my wand I can cast some basic spells without an Incantation.

Still, I prefer casting magic wandlessly cause it is so cool.

Turns out people in the wizarding world use potions to strengthen their children's body and magic reserves. Amelia also bought us some potion over the years and made us drink.

Well, these potions other than strengthening the body it has are only capable of increasing magical reserve. butut its efficiency less than ten per cent. And these potions will only work on prepubescent kids.

When comparing kids of my age my magical reserves are five to six-time larger. How do I know about it? Over the year of sensing and controlling magic, I developed skill in sensing how much magic is present in others.

In comparison, Amelia has ten times more magic than me. And there are many people out there who have a larger reserve, so I should not be overly content with my results. I have to work harder.

All these years of using magic to strengthen my body made many remarkable able changes. For example, using magic on my eyes I can see clearly in the dark and I can spot objects far too.

First, it was harder to do since I only experimented in one eye. It caused my vision to be imbalanced. Over years of experimenting and finer control of my magic, I fixed my vision.

At first, I had dreams of using magic on my eye. I can mutate my eye into something like Sharingan or Byakugan. But the results proved me otherwise. After ten years of enhancing my eye constantly with magic, it only bought small benefits.

I'm eleven years old but my body is strong as an adult body.

I also had a stupid idea of using magic in my vocal cords and mouth, which can make me a parseltongue. Well, other than strengthened gums and soothing my voices it didn't do anything. Maybe some ritual magic is needed to become parseltongue.

I haven't done any ritual or runic magic in my body. Why? I don't know how to do it. This is the downside of being light wizards. there's not a single book on ritual in our library.

I can only find those books in Hogwarts or the black family collections. I'm still in the growing phase. I can worry about it later.

Now my plan for Hogwarts is simple to remain anonymous and learn as much I can without getting noticed by others. It will be a pain in the ass getting noticed by others so I need to act completely normal without raising any suspicion.

I also need to keep an open mind about characters rather than believing what I read in the books or watched in movies. Why? because I met Draco Malfoy sometime back in parties. He doesn't seem bad as the books described him. He is a normal kid of his age. I also cast Legilimens on him to check whether he's acting or not, other than learning about pureblood supremacy since birth he is just a normal kid.

Yes. Legilimens. I cast it on all others around me. It saves me the time of guessing what others are thinking. It needs establishing prior contact with the target to remain anonymous. I can do it without their permission or awareness of anyone around my age.

I usually don't do it on Adults because they have a strong mind shield, and I don't have many contacts with them. Casting it on muggles is way too easy. But on a witch or wizard who has a mind shield, it becomes harder if I don't want to be caught.

I learned it in a hard way, one time I tried to cast it on Amelia and she caught me.

Since I was acting as normal around her, she thought it was accidental magic.

Accidental magic is done based on emotions, so she thought I was angry at her spending time at the office, so I accidentally cast it on her.
