The mysterious organization (ALCHEMI) wiped away the memories related to each supernatural event.
Some others who showed signs of having powers were recruited or put under watch due to certain protocols.
Among them was Rayne and Hogan who had their memories wiped.
Their previous memories suggested to them that the mother of the family died in an accident.
ALCHEMI handled things as a large secret organization would which allowed for mistakes to be made at times due to so many people being involved.
When the family of two got back to their lives of freedom, a mistake had been made and something was missed.
Hogan could be ignored since his magical abilities were low and it would be difficult for him to improve them without proper awareness/teaching.
The power of Rayne went unnoticed and the spell used to mess with her memories had been ineffective.
She went on to remember everything during her young age and as she made more contact with her father, she somehow negated the spell that was still active on him.
Hogan regained his memories and became hateful of everything related to the loss of his wife.
He hated himself for gaining magic and distanced himself from his daughter who had changed too.
What he hated most was how easy it was for others with powers or other advantages to abuse them.
A scientist had misused their position and caused great harm.
A mysterious group was working in the shadows while keeping everything from the public.
His memories were altered and many others must have undergone the same.
It was simply unacceptable! He had no choice but to make use of his magic and his daughter's powers to be able to chase after the shadows of the mysterious group.
He had to take on a role similar to his enemies if he wanted to be able to contend with them.
From then many other people were found similar to him and were awakened to the truth of certain events.
He recruited pro-human groups, mercenaries, and former victims while collecting information and other things that would prove helpful to his new mission.
