Chapter 14: And they say he isn't bad

Nancy and I chatted for another hour before I said goodnight and went up to my room. I felt relaxed knowing the old man was with someone and wouldn't be bothering me. I said my prayers and lay on my bed waiting to doze off but sleep wasn't coming, I didn't know why I was suddenly bothered about the old man.

' Why did he marry me? there were other ways he could have had my dad pay him back but why force me to marry him? If he married me because he wanted my body he would have forced himself on me by now, so why? There had to be a reason for all this' I kept thinking but I couldn't find an answer.

I finally gave up and slept off. When I woke up, I wanted to leave the house before the old man woke up. I didn't want to have to see his face and that woman's face again. I hissed as the thought crossed my mind. I bathed quickly and dressed up, I wore a black baggy jean trouser, a blank tank top, a blue Jean jacket and black boots. I packed my hair into a ponytail as usual and applied my lip balm. I've never been a fan of make-up so I don't take much time dressing up, I was a tomboy after all. I smiled at the thought, I've always felt comfortable in baggy clothes. Ken had tried to make me dress more girly but it never worked.

I rushed to the living room, "Good morning ma'am" Nancy was coming from the kitchen as she greeted me. " Good morning Nancy, How are you?" I asked with a smile.

" Am okay ma'am, Did you sleep well?" She was handing me a cup of coffee.

" Thanks, Nancy, I did sleep well." I took a sip and handed the cup back to her as I asked " Have you seen Gab?"

" Yes ma'am, he's waiting outside. He said you told him you would be going out early today." Nancy replied.

" Okay, I'll get going then. Bye." I was at the door already. I got out and met Gab waiting for me beside the car.

" Good morning Gab" I greeted as I walked to the car.

" Good morning Mrs Kelvin" He replied as he held the door open for me. As Gab drove, I asked him to play a song and he played forever young by Alphaville. I closed my eyes as I sang along and when I opened them I saw Gab smiling, " You're a good singer ma'am" he remarked and I smiled. I was still in the middle of another song when Gab parked the car.

" So soon? That was fast." I remarked as I carried my bag. Gab rushed out and held the door open for me. I have told him a thousand times I could open the door by myself but he never listens. " It's okay Gab." I said as I came out of the car "I Am just doing my job ma'am" Gab replied. I said goodbye to him and started walking towards the Library.

" Hey, sis." I knew who it was the moment I heard the voice.

" Hello Abigail, How may I help you?" I turned around and faced her with a smile. ' Dear God, this is not how I want to start my Monday.'

" Stop acting like we are enemies Lisa, we are sisters after all." she waved her hand dismissively like I was angry over nothing.

" When did I ever act like we are enemies, sis, I would never do that we are sis like you said," I replied still with a smile.

" I saw a handsome guy dropping you off just now, ain't you supposed to be married to an old man or are you cheating on him?" She was smirking now.

" You know a cheat will always think everyone cheats, do you want to snatch him too?" I was enjoying her reaction, she was looking like she would explode in anger any moment.

" Oh yeah? I bet you can't even keep him after all you couldn't keep Ken." she sneered as she said this. I was angry but I wouldn't let her get the best of me. And before I could answer I heard " She doesn't need a cheat in her life anyway, she has a man who loves her with all his heart now." I didn't know when Hads came. She gave Abigail a smug as she said this. " The old man she was forced to marry? Oh please." Abigail started laughing

" Do you know who that old man is? Do you know with just a word he can ruin your life forever?" Hads looked her straight in the eye. Abigail blinked as she realised she never knew who the man she married was.

" Lisa, who is your husband, what's his name?" Abigail looked at me expectantly for me to give her a name.

"Well, that's for me to know, it's none of your business." I laughed and held Hads left hand and started walking away.

" You ...." I heard her say as she stomped her legs.

" Are you crazy Hads? Love me? This has to be the most hilarious thing I've ever heard" I was laughing so hard now and so was Hads

" I couldn't let her mock you" Hads was pouting as she said this and I couldn't help but smile. " You know I can always handle her"

" I know Lis but I can't stand it," Hads said, what did I ever do to get such a loyal friend?

" Did Mr Kelvin come back yesterday? " Hads asked concerned, she had called me on Saturday to ask how I was doing and If the old man was bothering me and I had told her he wasn't home.

" He came back last night," I answered remembering the blonde girl he came back with. " He didn't bother you right?" She looked at me. " Why would he bother me when he came back with a blondie?"

" What? He brought a girl home?" I nodded to her question and she gasped, I laughed instead.

" I wasn't even surprised when I saw them I was extremely happy he wouldn't have to bother me." we were almost at the library now.

" Did he always do that?" Hads asked

" I dunno Hads, Nancy said he wasn't bad and so did Gab but I don't believe it, I think they are just trying to defend their boss." I shook my head as we took our sit in the Library

" There's something I don't understand Hadassah?" I said as I looked at her.

" Okay now you're scaring me, you only use my full name when what you want to say is super important. what don't you understand? " Hads asked confused.

" Why did he marry me? There are several ways to make my dad pay off his debt, why did he insist on marrying me? Hads he could have had his way on me already but he didn't force me. The other night he was so close and I thought that was the ending of my running but he just turned and went to his room." I was trying to explain things to Hads I had completely forgotten I didn't tell her about that night.

" I can't explain why too. I knew something happened that night." Hads looked at me "Am just happy you're okay"
