Chapter 13: Jealous? Hell no!

I finished up all my homework and checked the time. It was just 6 pm, I was so bored and decided to watch a movie. I went to the sitting room and turned on the TV, there was a comedy show going on and I decided to just watch that instead. I watched for a while and got interested.

" Nancy, there's a comedy show going on, let's watch" I called out to Nancy who was in the kitchen. " Ma'am, I have to make Mr Kelvin's dinner," Nancy replied. I couldn't concentrate on the TV anymore so I went to meet Nancy in the kitchen.

" You don't want him back?" The question was so quiet like she was expecting me to rebuke her for asking.

" He can come back anytime he wants, it's his house after all" I didn't give a direct reply to her question. Nancy smiled as she said " But you don't want him to come back, I've noticed you're happier and more comfortable in the house when Mr Kelvin is not around. You bearly even eat when he's around."

" How can I when all I do is worry when he's around," I replied absent-mindedly.

" What do you worry about?" Nancy asked with a curious expression as she paused what she was doing. I just shook my head and wave my hand dismissively.

"Mr Kelvin isn't so bad if you get to know him, ma'am." Nancy didn't look at me as she said this. Why do they keep telling me that he isn't a bad person? " My dad died when I was 10 and my mom remarried, unfortunately, she married an abusive man, a gangster at that. My mom and I lived with him after their marriage. He would often beat my mom and me up until my mom became sick and died when I graduated high school. My stepdad would bet me up all the time, I wanted to go to college but each time I saved up he would give me a beating and take it from me then go clubbing, drinking and going to brothels with it. I thought I was doomed but He took me to his car and asked me what I could do I told him I loved cooking then he brought me home and said henceforth I was the cook and he would pay me like every other employee." Soon dinner was ready and Nancy served the meal. I persuaded Nancy to sit and eat with me but she refused. I kept insisting and she finally gave in and sat down.

We were halfway through our meal when the door suddenly opened and Mr Kelvin came in. My heart started beating wildly the moment he stepped in. I was still looking at him when a girl walked in and held his arm, They walked towards us and Nancy greeted him

" Hello Mr Kelvin," I said in a muffled voice. He should know I wasn't happy he was back.

He just turned and headed upstairs with the girl.

" And you tell me he isn't so bad," I murmured

" Do I smell Jealosy, ma'am? " Nancy was smiling mischievously.

" Jealousy? " I laughed " Hell no!! if anything is happy " I continued eating.

" Why would you be happy your husband is bringing another woman home?" I made a face swinging my hair to show I didn't care, Nancy laughed uncontrollably.
