Lucas opened his phone suddenly as he was instructed to. He wondered what he'd receive in his phone, setting aside the conversation going on between Precious and Veronica. He knew Veronica wouldn't accept Precious. Maybe not now.
He went on and opened his phone to read the message Edgar sent to him. While watching it, he smirked because he was extremely pleased with what he was watching. Edgar sure has a way to ruin things. The moment he saw a human in misery, he felt so satisfied that his evil side began to swallow him up.
Veronica glanced at him when he demanded her attention by calling her through the mind. She wondered what was going on and lifted her eyebrows in an askance look.
Lucas then stood up, walking over to Precious. "Hello, little human," he said in a singsong tone and stood behind Precious's chair, bent and showed her the video.
Precious, who had been waiting for Veronica's response or assurance as Precious had assumed that Veronica had accepted her, had her attention suddenly needed by Lucas. The girl didn't even know when Lucas appeared behind her, she just lifted her head, met his green eyes and looked down at his phone as told by him.
Why would she have to look into his phone when they didn't share any closeness?
But when Precious saw her father in the video, she instantly realized why she had to look into a beast's phone. It wasn't for fun but to remind her that she was nothing but a pet to Edgar.
In the video was Vincent working in a restaurant. Looking weak and frazzled, he served a customer unknown to him that he mixed up the order. This caused the customer to flare up. Vincent's little mistake caused noises while he apologized but the customer didn't seem to be satisfied until he turned the meals over Vincent's head.
Precious gasped while Veronica laughed at the scene. Precious was already in tears when she saw her father working so hard in a restaurant when he owned a better shop.
The girl felt this strange feeling in her back, it was chill and streaming down her backbone, making her feel sick. Precious was shivering, her heart was pounding and her head throbbed after seeing her father, who was suffering.
Chris, Lucas and Veronica laughed and began to talk about the scene they watched. Seeing evil was their meal and for a moment, they forgot that Precious was affected. Not that they cared about her feelings but she somehow used to gain their sympathy but this time, they felt nothing for her.
"I love his expression."
"Oh, the fat man did well."
"Why would he make such a mistake in the first place?"
"It's so satisfying, play it again!"
"I love to see humans in pain!"
Precious didn't even know who was talking, she was lost and was only hearing voices. "Papa," she whispered.
Lucas had left her back, letting her alone in her own world, sobbing. The image of the soup flowing down her father's head kept flashing in her mind. Precious couldn't get it out of her head. "Papa," she muttered again.
Precious couldn't even make comments on the beast's reaction to her father's misery, she was just trapped in that corner thinking about the state her father was in at the moment.
Her head began to spin, thinking about her father. For a moment, she was feeling comfortable with these beasts. She was also planning to get along with them and become friends with them but they were remorseless and evil. They were…more evil than she had imagined.
How…how could they laugh at her father that way? He was just poor and never wished to be poor. If only, if only he was never indebted to Edgar, Precious would still be with her father and he wouldn't have to work himself out just to raise money for her release.
Soon, Precious began to lose her breath, feeling suffocated by their laughter and the air around her so with her hand holding her chest as if it would fall, she stood up and attempted to walk away but her legs failed her.
"How weak of you, Precious! You are supposed to find joy in this. Just take a look at his miserable face!" Veronica showed Precious the phone, showing Precious how merciless she was. Precious was wrong about her. Veronica could never be her friend if she was this devilish. She was hurt and all they did was laugh.
Precious, who was on the floor crying, took in some breaths and looked into Veronica's eyes with her eyes blazing red caused by the tears pouring out of her eyes. Clenching her jaws and fists in anger and pain, Precious glared at Veronica. Hatred filled her heart for the first time.
How could they…
With tears flowing out of her eyes, streaming down to her chin, she glared at Veronica, but couldn't curse Veronica in her mind as much as she wanted to.
Veronica noticed that look of anger and faced Precious fully. "Didn't you want to be my friend? You want to do anything. I only accept evil as a friend. You can't even kill a mere cockroach…how…" Veronica laughed. "I hate we–ak–lings!" With widened eyes, stating her seriousness and evilness, Veronica broke it down to Precious.
But when all Precious did was glare, Veronica used her palm to push Precious's face. "I wish I could be the one to treat you better but Edgar wants the whole fun to himself," Veronica faced the table, laughing. "It will be fun to watch you react to my treatments!" And then, Veronica's laughter became louder.
Precious looked at the ground, it was sparkly enough to almost show her reflection. She let out a heavy sigh, more like letting herself breathe from crying with almost the whole energy she had in her stomach.
Precious looked up to see some maids walking in to serve the beasts and the beasts' voices of how proud they were of their wickedness were pushing her to scream in agony and irritation. How can some creatures be happy and honored to be ruthless?
Precious shook her head slowly, squeezing her eyes as she remembered the state she saw her father in. She needed to see her father! She needed to see her Papa.
The thought and determination made Precious gain a little strength in her knees. "I need to leave this place!" Muttering, Precious brought herself to her feet and wiped her tears. She must see her father, even if it kills her. She must find her father and tell him that she was fine.
Precious staggered out of their presence while they giggled at her determination to find her father. Rainey followed her like a good pet.
Precious told herself that if she was able to leave that dungeon, she'd never turn back, not even for Rainey. Precious recalled how Chris behaved toward her. They made her feel comfortable with Clint, telling her that it wouldn't hurt her, they served her well and listened to her talk about her dreams, but she never knew they could be that cruel to her.
Precious never knew that they could laugh at her pain and her family. Were they that evil?
Staring at the chandelier in the lobby, Precious thought about her father. She hoped that she'd find her way out.
Eventually, she opened the main door and viewed the garden again. Yes! This…this was her way in when the chauffeur drove her in.
However, it never dawned on Precious that neither of the beasts came to stop her until she realized that there was no exit in the building after strolling around for some minutes.
