No One Depends on Me

Chanyeol pov

I was in a deep sleep but I felt something was off. My eyes shot open against my body's will. I looked for what could be wrong. Baekhyun and Rose were asleep and y/n wasnt in her spot. I was gonna look around the rest of the room for her but the shelf was placed in front of the door. Meaning she moved it there and left.

Chanyeol: She must have a death wish just on the verge of death and she thinks she can just walk off and do whatever she wants. I shoudl bring her back before Baekhyun wakes and says just leave her

I slipt out through the tiny space beteen the shelf and door. The hall was dark and empty.

Chanyeol: where could you have gone.

looking from the left then to the right I take a guess and follow it. I should have know she had an idea and would follow through with a mind of her own she will surely cause more trouble. I need to keep a close eye on her at all times to keep the group safe. Every now and again I had to duck down behind something as a dead person walked pass one of the times I barely made it into a room. When I entered I was pulled down. Out of instinct I grabbed my knife and pushed whatever it was on the ground as I got on top of it.

Your pov

As you walked to where you needed you were use to sneaking around on this side so fiding a hiding spot wasnt hard. You decide to rest in an empty room as a hoard passed. The amount of dead had really increased. As you sat on the ground and listened as they passed by. you counted the silence after the last groan had disappeared. when you went to stand the door opened. Whatever it was the shadow was big and moving fast. knocked off balanced being surprised your rabbed onto whatever it was but was pushed onto the ground. Shocked by its actions you kept your eyes closed when you hit the ground ready to meet your fate.

You opened your eyes and could barely make out chanyeol's face

You: chanyeol what are you doing here

Chanyeol: I was looking for you… why the hell would you leave without telling someone�� your lucky I was the one who noticed and not baekhyun. This would have been the last straw you know that

you: of course I do

chanyeol: then why would you leave

You: I had an idea for something and wanted to check it out without putting anyone else at risk

Chanyeol: you leaving put everyone at risk. we are in dangerous territory and have no idea where we are going

you: you could have easily made it back to the toher side of the wall without me. you knew the way. and i would have been back in no time

chanyeol: your not gonna comeback until you complete whatever it is you came up with are you

you: exactly

chanyeol: fine we will do it together

You: You don't have to worry about it just go back and I will take care of it

Chanyeol: you really think I am gonna let you go by yourself

He wouldn't would he after following me all this way intent on taking me back. I am lucky he is planning on letting me still go

You: get off of me and I will tell you

He looked down at me

Chanyeol: you better not run

You: where would I go that you couldnt follow

He slowly got up and held a hand out to me. I grabbed it and he helped me stand up

You: we have a gift shop down stairs I was gonna go and get bigger bags to hold more things at once. we have these like mdeical backpacks of adventure for the kids. if we use those its less bags to hold and more of range

Chanyeol: that's a smart idea

You: thats why I wanted to see if I could get them

Chanyeol: You should have said something earlier in the group. we could have made a plan to do it in the morning

You: I didn't want to put anyone else in danger

Chanyeol: no matter the danger you always need a battle buddy so incase something happens they have you back

you nodded and then thought to yourself. why would it be a group of three then soemone doesnt have a battle buddy

You: baekhyun has rose as a battle buddy but you are by yourself without a battle buddy. what if you are introuble

Chanyeol: i don't put myself in a situation where I get in trouble so I dont need one

You: but you said everyone does

Chanyeol: I am the exception

You rolled your eyes

Chanyeol: how much farther until we reach the stairs

You: around the corner and straight but a heard just passed toward that way

Chanyeol: what is after the stairs

You: a set of doors, patient rooms, a few offices, and another set of doors

Chanyeol: would the doors be open

You: I assume so it seemed they have been walking in circles

Chanyeol: come on then

He began walking. Making it to the stair just as the herd finished walking in the doors.

You: I was right the doors are open on this floor. If that is true on every floor then it would be the same. Heards walking in circles

Chanyeol: safe to assume so

You smiled

Chanyeol: what now

You: if we close those doors and the doors on the other side of the stairs this level is essentially clear beside stranglers right

He thought about it

Chanyeol: what do we do

You looked around

You: one of us will have to close those double doors and block them while the other one does it for the other side. But the other side would be more dangerous to do. we dont know how far the head of the hoard goes

Chanyeol: i got the other side you close this side and meet me back here at the stairs

We split up. I stalked silently to the doors. Everynow and again I shut a door that had died inside. When i got to the double doors i closed them

You: to easy

You placed gurneys, chairs, and carts in front of it so they couldn't push it open. On the way back to the stairs you stood silently. Your heart pounded as the seconds passed and chanyeol hadn't returned. You sat on a stairs back to the door, your eyes closed, head in your knees. You felt a hand on your shoulder causing you to flinch

Chanyeol: lets go

He grabbed your hand pulling you down a few flights of stairs to the ground floor we were lucky the case was empty. He peaked out the door

You: what do you see

Chanyeol: its clear for now just wait a bit so I can fully check

He started walking away. When he made sure the area was clear he signalled for you to come. You walked passed him

Chanyeol: let's hurry before any dead show up. If a herd passes by then we would be sitting ducks with no cover

We walked into the gift shop and split up looking for anything big enough to hold all the medicine and equipment plus food. While walking I saw clothes and blankets and other things that could be useful at any compound. I then spotted the survival backpacks bigger than what I thought they would be. I grabbed one and began stuffing blankets and clothes in it. I felt a hand on my shoulder and I looked back almost falling. It was chanyeol again he really needed to stop doing that to me. Before I could yell at him he put his finger over his lips and bent down. I followed and whispered

You: what is it

Chanyeol: hoard heading this way

We crawled until we were behind the counter

Chanyeol: they started passing about a minute ago… what did you find

You: the bags but there was also blankets and clothes

Chanyeol: we could use the blankets, leave the clothes we can come back if we need to

Trips would be dangerous i bit my lip

Chanyeol: what

I looked at him

You: nothing

Chanyeol: you bite your lip when you are thinking about something

There was shuffling and a shelf fell. They are coming in. I closed my eyes and began to shake. The moans got loud like they were surrounding us. It made my heart pound faster and my breathing uneasy to the point i was almost hypervenilating. chanyeol took notice to he state I was in and pulled me close to him and began rubbing my shoulder.

chanyeol: just focus on me okay and you will be fine

his breath tickled your ear. You stayed like that him rubbing your shoudler and you listening to his breathing. It was soft and controlled.

Chanyeol: I think the last one is gone

he said interrupting the rythm

you: oh

chanyeol: you said they are going in a circle

You: the one upstairs did it's possible for the same down here if the outside doors are open.

chanyeol: how bad would that be

you: The ER is in this section and the outside doors are bigger and can hold more dead so any one of those things from the outside could come in.

Chanyeol: how long does it take to go around the hospital counting the ER

You: if all the doors are open 10 minutes at the least. If they are going through one door at a time 15. more could come in or leave but I donbt they are losing numbers that herd sounded huge

Chanyeol: how many doors come into this way keeping the stairs open

You: 5 automatic and then there are the back doors

Chanyeol: back doors

You: the staff uses them to get in and out of the hospital so they don't go through the front doors mostly for parking

Chanyeol: parking

You: yeah my car is parked at door 10

Chanyeol: which is

You: ER

Chanyeol: that is to big of a risk we need a straight shot out

You: other nurses and doctors use closer ones… jinyoung his car was parked at 24 which would be through the hall to the left

I pointed

Chanyeol: you know what his car looks like

You: yes and I have his keys too

I pulled them out of my pocket

Chanyeol: why do you have his keys

He looked cautious

You: he was my boss i held things for him… I guess since this all happened he never asked for them back and I just added them to my keys

Chanyeol: grab the blankets as much as you can carry were going to his car

He began grabbing things like bottles of water while I grabbed the blankets and small first aid kits. He went first as we walked down the hall closing doors that were not needed. Until we got to the exit

Chanyeol: we don't know what's behind this door

You: staff parking lots are locked to keep out the public they would have to go through a tall gate to get in.

Chanyeol: still stay close to me

He opened the door. The night wind hits my face making me cold. I haven't felt wind in forever. I closed my eyes drinking it in

Chanyeol: help me look for something to keep the door open.

He nudged you. I sat the blankets down and looked around

You: what about this

I held up a small wooden block from a crate near by

Chanyeol: that will do

He placed it in front of the door so it opened a little. I picked up the blankets and walked around the lot. There were a lot of cars still. I wonder how many doctors and nurses never got to go home. this became there tomb

Chanyeol: what type of car does he have

You: Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4

He stopped and looked at me

You: what

Chanyeol: he owned a sports car that is insanely expensive

You: is it expensive. I didnt know

It didn't take long to find the car...

You: it's not that big

Chanyeol: it wasn't meant to be big it's meant to be fast. Start loading up the car.

We made a couple of trips back and forth. We made sure to stock the car from floor to ceiling

You: there is only space for 2

Chanyeol: I noticed… got any other keys

You: they are locked in the employ locker rooms

Chanyeol: which are

You: in the

Chanyeol: ER

You: yeah

we looked around at all the possible car just a little out of reach

Chanyeol: Are you sure… no one else had a set of keys

You: NRA she left hers in my office in my desk

Chanyeol: we don't have the time to get all the way up and come back down without getting caught.

You: I can go around the outside of the building and drive my car over here

Chanyeol: that's dangerous

You: but that is are best option unless you want to break into the ER without getting caught

Chanyeol: your options always puts someone at risk

You: as a doctor I am used to risking it all. Especially for my patients

you looked at him serious

Chanyeol: what if your patients need you alive

You: Compromise come with me to get my car

He arched an eyebrow.

Chanyeol: was that ever a question me going

you smiled as you led him to the gate

Chanyeol; stay close to me. Step where i step and if i tell you to run go back in the parking lot and close the gate

You: i am not a child

chanyeol: its to keep you safe

you: i can take care of my self

you opened the gate with a sqeak. when it was open enough to walk through he had you stop

chanyeol: now or never right

you smiled as he walked through the gate. after stepping out you closed it.

chanyeol: we should walk close to the building it will provide more coverage

We got as close to the building as we could and walked in silence. He made sure to keep a sharp eye while I led the way. he stopped me occasionally as the dead were walking across the street when he was sure it was safe we woul dthen continue walking. We got to the front of the ER and the doors were wide open like I thought they would be. Dead filled the insides and wandered about. It looked almost normal if they werent dead

Chanyeol: we parked around on the other side of the building

You: the main entrance. Do you have your keys with you

Chanyeol: why

You: 3 is better than 2 at holding supplies right

Chanyeol: again with your ideas. It's to much of a risk

You: but if it works it would totally be worth it right

He thought to himself and then groaned because he knew I was right.

Chanyeol: okay but we do this one at a time

You: that will take too long and draw too much attention. This is pushing it. Just find your car and meet me at the gate.

He seemed to be hesitant

chanyeol: we shouldn't split up

you: its not really splitting up look at it more like me waiting for your all clear signal right. You had me wait while you went and checked. well i will get my car and wait for you

chanyeol: there is no correlation

you: maybe not but your leaning to it. cause it makes sense somewhat. I will be okay and I will stick to the plan exactly okay

he agreed to that

Chanyeol: just be safe you still are weak

You: I have been in worse conditions working in the ER

He walked me all the way to my car nad made sure I got in okay.

you: what now

Chanyeol: Give me 3 minutes before you start your engine… enough to get to my car

You: are you sure 3 minutes to get around to the front of the building. It took us 10 to get here and we were not that far away

Chanyeol: because i was making sure we didn't get caught for your sake. Me getting caught i can get out of it easy

you: you said you dont put yourself in dangerous situations

chanyeol: it may be dangerous for people like you but for me its not

He was so cocky and had no regard for his life

You: you still need to be safe. Your not invincible

Chanyeol: i will meet you at the gate

You: chanyeol did you hear me

Chanyeol: 3 minutes

He took one last look at me shutting my door and he then ran across the parking lot. I started counting right away…. 1...2...30...45...115...129…156… 180 I took a deep breath putting my key in the ignition. I slowly turned it over and the car started up. I backed out of my parking space and started driving toward the parking lot… I made sure not to go faster than needed. The rumbling of the engine got the attention of a few dead in the parking lot. I got to the gates and opened them pulling my car in and then waited for chanyeol… he was taking too long and the dead were getting closer. The dead were closing in… I waited as long as I could but they were close… I remembered back to that girl running to me with the dead on her trail… I took a deep breath blocking it out...

You: chanyeol please hurry

I heard a car heading toward me hitting the dead that was in front of it… it wouldn't reach the gate before the ones headed to me… i could hear jinyoung yelling at me to close it… I closed my eyes trying to block him out he got louder and louder

Jinyoung: close it… we protect our own… it will be your fault… close it

I began to cry… the dead was right in front of me and he reached out for me grabbing my shoulder… it pulled me to the ground as I closed my eyes tight. I could feel it's breath on my neck… I felt it being ripped away. I opened my eyes and chanyeol was pushing it back

Chanyeol: close the gate hurry

I grabbed it and was closing it but he was on the wrong side

You: chanyeol

Chanyeol: close it

I had a flash of jinyoung yelling at me to close it and that girl screaming for her life and flesh tearing

Chanyeol: what are you doing

I ran back to my car

Chanyeol: y/n

I grabbed the knife I kept in it. I ran back to the gate

Chanyeol: y/n are you crazy

I lunged on the dead stabbing it in the neck… he stumbled back… chanyeol grabbed my arm pulling me in the parking lot closing the gate.

Chanyeol: are you crazy i told you to close it

You: And if I did what about you…

I had tears running down my face...

Chanyeol: i was gonna come in through the ER

You: with the hoard of dead we just saw

Chanyeol: dead have never been my problem i can handle them

You: and what if one day you can't huh… what would you do then what would the people depending on you do then…

He went silent and more tears fell

Chanyeol: no one depends on me

You: Bullshit…

I wiped them away… he reached out to me

You: turn the cars so we can leave… I will get more supplies to load

I threw him my keys and walked back inside…
