Chapter 1Chapter 1 Year 2125

It was the year 2125, the world witnessed a remarkable technological revolution that began at the end of the 21st century and continued to advance rapidly in the 22nd century.

During this period, the gaming industry experienced an unprecedented surge in popularity, giving rise to numerous companies, each striving to create the most captivating and immersive games. Among them, Astro Revolution stood tall, renowned for its exceptional game mechanics and innovative approach. It released one sensational game after another and instantly captured the player base of the whole world in a couple of decades.

Furthermore, the company is also reputed for employing young and talented groups of game developers. All these factors ensured its continuous hegemony.

Simon aged 35, unmarried; was employed by Astro Revolution in the year 2112 as an assistant game developer. Filled with intense passion and ingenious ideas for developing games, he quickly rose to become the head of his department in merely 5 years.

His division consistently and continuously delivered one popular game after another. There was no one in the company that did not know them, one could even say that they were bathing in success, and Simon was right in the heart of it.

In 2122, Simon and his team embarked on their most ambitious project yet - the development of a groundbreaking new game.

Aged 45, Simon poured all his years of experience, knowledge, heart, and soul into this project, considering it his magnum opus, surpassing all previous achievements.

Simon planned on making it his most masterful piece of work that out shadowed all the other games he had ever made.

During this period of time, he slept and ate in his office, sometimes he got so engrossed in writing codes that he skipped his sleep and meals.

More often than not he would blabber and keep on going through all the codes in his mind whenever he had free time. When his colleagues would take a break or a day off from their work, he would sit in his office racking his brain for ideas, run codes then debug them. All of his free time was dedicated to it.

One could say this became the daily routine of the man named Simon.

  -----

In a spacious and cluttered room, multiple displays of monitors ran intricate lines of codes, tables were strewn with disorderly contents, tablets scattered across the floor, and in one corner lay a makeshift bed with a mattress and pillow. The room was the epitome of chaos.

Simon who delved deeper and deeper in his work was many times approached by his fellow developers to spend some time off of work.

However, their well-intentioned words fell on deaf ears. Months passed in this relentless pursuit, as Simon's job became his entire life. His health deteriorated, but he paid no heed, pouring all his effort into developing the game he had devoted his life and soul to.

By the middle of 2123, the game finally passed all legal challenges and entered the beta testing phase.

Initial reviews and testing went smoothly, raising hopes for a successful launch at the end of the year.

But when that highly anticipated moment came, it turned into a heartbreaking setback as the game's mechanics failed repeatedly, plagued by bugs that seemed insurmountable. The beta test proved to be a critical challenge, and the game failed to pass muster by the year's end.

  -----

Late at night, lightning flickered across the sky, accompanied by unceasing rain pouring down outside

Simon sat in his office chair, his eyes fixed on the main menu of LAPLACE—the game into which he had poured his heart and soul. He considered it his brainchild, but despite all his efforts, the game couldn't pass the final phase of beta testing. It failed to take off.

Meanwhile, an extraordinary phenomenon unfolded outside. The ceaseless rain suddenly halted, and droplets of water remained suspended in mid-air. It was as if time itself had frozen, leaving everything, living or non-living, motionless.

Inside this suspended time where everything had stopped, a man could be seen working endlessly in his office. The man was none other than Simon.

WHOOSH... suddenly, tthe dense clouds surrounding the region parted, revealing the brilliant night sky. Innumerable stars could be seen twinkling, and the sky outside at this moment was so clear and visible that it was as if all the layers of atmosphere around the entire earth had disappeared.

An extremely distant star that was impossibly far and impossible to perceive from here, began to shine with a strange radiance at this moment. The ray of light that shone from the star was so dazzling that it could cross that limitless distance and shine on what appeared to be one spot, or more precisely, one man.

At this moment, Simon was working in his workstation unaware of the bizarre phenomenon that had occurred outside.

The game he had dedicated himself to developing had failed to pass the beta test, leaving him in a gloomy mood. His eyes were bloodshot from sleep deprivation as he stared at the main menu of Laplace.

He didn't know why but for some reason, he felt an unknown resonance that felt strangely familiar with the screen displaying the menu of this game. The feeling lasted only for a fleeting moment before disappearing.

The peculiar phenomenon outside also vanished at the same moment and time started flowing once again at its usual pace. The rain resumed its descent, and the thick clouds obscured the sky once more. The momentary view witnessed would likely never be seen again.

Simon had a blank face for a while before quickly coming to his senses. He brushed off that unknown feeling before focusing his attention on the screen. Unbeknownst to him, a faint golden glow appeared deep within his dull black eyes.

After the initial failure at beta testing, he started putting more of his time developing and fixing the game. He stopped going home and started living in his office.

Days passed by, Simon got endlessly engrossed in his work. The faint golden glow in his eyes started becoming a glaring shade and the quick whitening of his hair and his thinning face made him look like the very definition of a maniac.

  -----

The year 2124, June—In the blink of an eye, 6 months passed and Simon like a fanatic devoted all his time of the year to the game.

And as result, most of the bugs were cleared, and the company decided to put the game through a second round of beta testing. All the problematic mechanics were reconstructed and reviews responded with overwhelming positivity. Finally, the game passed the second beta test with ease.

With this success, the company set the launch date for LAPLACE at the beginning of the year 2125.

During this period, Simon passed out many times while working. Waking up only when his fellow developers called out to him. Clearly, he had accumulated too much stress and had overworked his body to its limits.

His colleagues tried to persuade him to see a doctor, but Simon paid them no mind. His attention was entirely fixed on the impending launch of the game, now just one month away.

At this point, Simon had a head full of white hair, despite being only 48 years old. His single-minded focus on the game had made him an outcast in his group, as he limited his social interactions to a bare minimum. Most of his time was spent near his computer, staring at the main menu of the game, determined to make it a resounding success.

  ----

It was the year 2125, today marks the official launch of the game LAPLACE.

In the early hours of the morning, as Simon's fellow group members entered the office, they found him in front of his computer, lying with his head down. It had become almost a daily sight for them to find Simon in this state.

Concerned for their dedicated colleague, some of them tried to wake him up, but their efforts were in vain. Though Simon was somewhat of an outcast in their group, they were all fully aware of the immense effort he had poured into developing the game. If anyone claimed that the game was solely the work of Simon, no one in the group would dispute it.

Thus, they attempted to shake him awake, as they reasoned it necessary for him to watch the official launch of the game he had sacrificed so much for.

However, no matter how many times they shook him or called out to him, they recieved no response.

Later a piece of news spread among the company Simon, one of the elite game developers had passed away in his office.

Despite being over 500 chapters in length you get the feeling the author has barely scratched the surface of what is possible. So even though I'm making this review now I still consider this in the beginning stages. Without further ado, let's begin... WRITING QUALITY: -Overall the quality is legible meaning accurate grammar and sentence structure most of the time. How do you know that your reading is poor? One way is because of the need to read over the text you just read not because of its complexity or depth but because you didn't grasp what the author is trying to convey. You won't need to worry about this. STABILITY OF UPDATES: -The author as far as I can tell never stayed in the double digits for weekly releasing nor dropped below 4 chapters for long if at all. This is a sign showing the author's desire to stick at it for the long run compared to the amount released I find this a better gauge of stability. Basically, the author so far has not given us a reason to doubt. STORY DEVELOPMENT: -The short answer is you always find yourself coming back for more. The longer answer is the beginning you are brought to some of the highest peaks of power which shows the vast gap between where the MC is now and the progress to be made from the bottom. With his dungeon as a center point, you see the characters venture out exploring the world similar to a character in a game bringing color to grey areas. This is a deliberate decision the author has made compared to other stories that have the MCs base of operations move with him while he scales the ladder of power. Neither is inherently better just more of a preference this author shows. -Not only do you see the MC develop the story being the one we follow but also many side characters and future villains scheming in the background giving you a foreshadowing of events to come. Overall great job. CHARACTER DESIGN: -The author does a masterful job of making sure each character is fleshed out so they add to the MC and the greater plot. Everyone close to the MC has a distinct personality, side characters you meet along the way regardless of duration feel like real people, and the villains are good villains in the sense they make you root for the MC and his companions. -Many people who don't like harem have legitimate concerns that those characters will either be useless or take away from the greater plot. You don't need to worry about this because so far the author has eluded to a few potential harem members however the plot demands your full attention so romance is not the center but instead the byproduct of a compelling story you read unfold. -Another concern many readers have is stories that have harem members surrounding the MC lack other companions which works sometimes while other times it leaves the reader wanting. I would say you are given a myriad of companions helping the MC, hindering the MC, and being there to flesh out the world. WORLD BACKGROUND: -As I wrote earlier the beginning does an excellent job of showing how vast the world is and how much potential the author can use to develop the story and characters. As the story progresses the MC is shown more of the world that seems never-ending which reminds me of peeling back the layers of an onion trying to find the nonexistent core. -The background is tied in obvious and mysterious ways to the MC letting you make your own judgments while giving you more bit by bit proving how much and little you really know so far. Overall I can't recommend this novel enough. Give it try if you're looking for quality content.

Interesting enough for a read, great concepts but the execution is bit odd Instead of scaling stat values to a lower range we start with random numbers in the hundreds when stats in the double digits would have done the exact same thing, it's like Diablo 3 stats in a novel where you can reach 1T and it means nothing. The DP system is even more ridiculous, Author thought numbers had to be big to have any meaning when 100DP could have been made to be something extremely difficult to reach. When Irene is introduced the novel becomes much more annoying to read as well, at least 25% of every chapter with her is describing her beauty because we, as readers are too dumb to have understood from the introduction, no, literally every sentence with her has to describe her beauty...I just skip over any areas where I see her name now, occasionally I check back and it's a waste because all I was missing is worthless info about her appearance. Expect to encounter chapters wasting 50% or more detail describing how amazing, mysterious and powerful she is for absolutely no reason other than Author thinks we're all idiots. This novel may as well be a tribute to a woman he likes called Irene. World background seems really interesting though, the only other annoying part is how he introduces characters and names, instead of normal descriptions we get "HELLO BOBBY, EVIL DRAGON CAT DOG FALCON MAN GODBEAST THE THIRD, TWICE REMOVED, KING OF TOKYO, LORD OF DRAGONS, BREAKER OF CHAINS, MOTHER OF DOGS, LEADER OF BLACK CAT GUILD, MOST RESPECTED ANCIENT BEING" and equally ridiculous introductions that are somehow supposed to be taken seriously Spelling is good, grammar is decent, that's saying a lot for Webnovel so kudos to Author. All in all, decent read if you have nothing else.

INITIAL THOUGHTS: -Ive recently caught up again with the chapters I stockpiled and decided that I wanted to give potential readers a window view of this great novel. WRITING QUALITY: -The short answer is Top Quality. -The longer answer is the author has done a great job of keeping the writing understandable using proper grammar structure which for what I call “Original Authors” is something that doesn’t always happen. When this novel plateform first started and for most of it’s inception afterwards you’ve had Chinese authors hiring translators who have a high level of English proficiency. This lead to a quality of content most of us readers got used to and only really noticed with new authors exploded on the platform. Overall 5/5. UPDATING STABILITY: -Consist from beginning to now. Averaging 1 a day or 7 a week it’s much better then many authors who seem to burn out after releasing at least twice that amount. Overall 5/5. STORY DEVELOPMENT: -Anyone who has read a fair amount of novels knows that their isn’t one universal story development. We read many decent to masterful stories with varying plots. What we do know even if we can’t put it into words is when a story progresses badly. This novel happens to fall into the great category. -The Main Character (MC) is transported to a cultivation world with many underlying mysteries that accompany his beginning. Most of the time we stick with the MC seeing his progress while at times be shown other characters that add to the overall world in a way that connects to the MCs progress now or in the far future. This is great for a number of reasons -One is how plot points are not only made in the short term, but also in the long term making many events that were a mystery unfold naturally. So while some plot points seem too distant to connect at first get gradually uncovered showing there deep implications. Two many people introduced in different factions and power levels are having a major effect on the story developing in ways we have yet to understand. -Overall I see great things for the story now and later. 5/5. CHARACTER DESIGN: -Short answer again is great. -The MC is positioned in the world as someone within and outside of it. Living a life as a human before and a demon now is taking the best of both worlds so he becomes someone who can make a impact. Ruthless and kind. Distant to some close to others. Prideful yet humble enough to recognize his faults. One of my top MCs. -Close characters are multi dimensional showing there support for the MC and the greater story development. Slowly but surely we see a group form around the MC each bringing color to what could have been a solitary life. I don’t want to give spoilers, but I’ll say that 2 females closest to the MC each bring out more sides to each other’s character development. Overall 5/5. WORLD BACKGROUND: -Deep and mysterious. The MC is slowly unveiling through his exploration what seems to be a complicated world. Many races known like Demons, humans, and dragons while many more briefly mentioned. Also various Apex wars that have happened for reasons unknown. The list goes on and on leaving wanting more. Overall 5/5.
