Chapter 25

It's been some time since the murder of Cynthia and Lorelei, though I couldn't tell how long since I didn't count.

All that time I haven't seen Kara even once, though that's not weird since I've left Metropolis.

After a couple of days on my journey I could think somewhat clearly, I regretted leaving Kara. That wasn't right for me to do. Thankfully, whatever drew me to kiss her made me transmit my feelings. At least she got to know how I felt about her. I still do.

Nowadays, I find myself in a city called San Francisco. The huge bridge here is very impressive but what stood out the most was a small island on which stood a huge, ugly, black and white building in the shape of the Terran letter 'T'.

When I asked about the structure, the old woman looked at me like I was an alien. I was, but she didn't know that. The answer I got was that this is the home of the Teen Titans.

I still didn't know what a Teen Titan was and at that point I was too afraid to ask.

I also found a job at the docks, loading and unloading small to medium crates by hand. Half of the time was during the night which was quite shady but as long as it wasn't human trafficking or drugs I couldn't care less.

Returning back home after a hard day of work, I opened the door to my apartment, if you could call it that. It was a single small room that doubled as a bedroom and kitchen. It also had a tiny bathroom. A medium sized window was my only view outside.

Preparing an early dinner, I noticed that I needed to go for groceries.

"Now of all times..."

Not wanting to leave it for tomorrow, I decided to go now.

Before doing so, I sat down and began meditating. At least I tried to. Ever since that night, every time i try to meditate, something jolts me out of it. Not only that, but sometimes I lose complete control of my psi-storm. When I use it, it becomes aggressive and violent like it has a mind of its own and that mind hates everything.

"Damn it!"

Standing up angrily, I head out for the market.

My usual market is small and a little bit far from home, but everything is of great quality.

After a bit of walking I entered the store and was greeted by a familiar, at this point, voice.

Janet: Ah Voranis, welcome!

Voranis: Hello miss Janet! How are you?

The one who greeted me was Janet, the wife of the store owner. Most of the time they are together in the store.

They are another reason as to why I come here. They remind me of Lorelei, both are kindhearted like her and make you feel welcome.

Janet: Like usual, but with the weather becoming colder and colder, my old bones are acting up again.

Voranis: You must make sure to get plenty of rest then! By the way, do you need help with anything?

She smiled and shook her head.

Janet: Thank you dear but it's fine, Jaime came by a few minutes before you and helped a bit. Though he was in a bit of a hurry.

Jaime was a Terran that looked to be of similar age as me. We both shopped and sometimes helped the owner while chatting so one could say we're acquaintances.

Voranis: Oh ok then, can I have the usual?

Janet: Of course! I've already prepared them for you, the freshest of the bunch.

Voranis: You're a saint miss Janet!

I paid for my things and while returning home, I got a message on my phone. It was from work.

It said to go to the dock for a few hours for a job.

Messages like these weren't uncommon. The usual practice was that if you did go to such calls, the pay would be triple plus you could get the next day off.

"Perfect timing!"

The frustration from my failed meditation sessions was really getting to me. With this, I could release some steam, get paid and have the next day off.

I left the bags at home and went to the dock. Some people were already there, all familiar faces.

Working at night quite a few times, I noticed something. There were always some people that stood out from the rest if you had a trained eye. Most of those had guns and from their whole aura you could tell they were used to violence and fighting.

The others were people who most likely just needed the money.

Seeing a friendly face arriving, I went for a chat.

Voranis: Hey there Daniel!

Daniel: Good evening Voranis!

Daniel is the one who showed me ropes here. Of the two kinds of people that work here, he belongs to the latter group.

Voranis: I didn't expect to see you tonight. Didn't your back hurt this morning?

Daniel: That's true, but my daughter began going to school and money is pretty tight.

The responsibility of raising a child is something that I can't even fathom.

Voranis: Ah I see. If you need to take a break later, don't worry, I'll cover for you.

He smiled and nodded.

Around half an hour, a small ship arrived and we began to unload crates to specific containers.

At some point while unloading, gunshots began going off.

"Police?"

Using the surrounding panic, I turned invisible and went to see what was happening.

Passing by some open containers, I found what looked like a man in a blue and black suit fighting the armed men. He had an arm cannon and what looked like insect legs were sprouting from his back.

"Is that a hero?"

I forgot to upload the chapter ;P Sorry for the delay.

Anyway, I hope you liked it and as always, thanks for reading.
