Can You See My Heart

It was a beautiful day. The brightness of the morning sunlight had warmed the room and lit it up. Andrea was still in bed. She made it a habit of getting up late. If it wasn't 10 o'clock, her eyes would refuse to open. 10 o'clock was the perfect time for her to wake up, as her husband would be long gone. Her husband left home for work every day at 9 am.

But that day was going to be different for her. She'd have to wake up as her phone was buzzing continuously. She reached over to the headboard with a pedestal, took her phone, and answered in a sleepy tone, "Hello..."

The caller's voice trailed off when he heard his sister voice, "Uff Princess Andrea, you are still sleeping?".

"Oh, David, why did you call me early morning?"

"Early morning? Did you even look at the time, it's 9:30."

"What do you want David?" she said, trying to move the conversation to the point.

"Andrea, the date for your architecture exam...i, mean, you will be writing your exam on 27th -"

"27th next month David, right?" Andrea interrupted David in between.

"Obviously stupid, Can't be this month because today is the 27th. Ohh, I almost forgot ...today is yours and Prince Leo Smith's 3rd month anniversary. Congratulations !!"

"Thank you, David, we will talk later..." quickly disconnecting the call. She didn't want to talk further about Leo Smith or her wedding anniversary. She got out of bed and began thinking of the events that led her to this point.

Girls would probably kill themselves to be in her position. However, she didn't feel so lucky. On the wedding night itself, she announced to Prince Leo Smith that he shouldn't expect her to be his wife. They would not share a bed; forget about the bed; they will not share a bedroom. Smith's Manor was huge. There were plenty of rooms. Andrea moved into a room far far away from Leo Smith's. Conversation between them was also very limited, but she would make it her duty to tell Leo how much she hated him at least ten times a day.

Since moving into Leo's house, Andrea had a lot of free time. She decided to complete her course in architecture. She wasn't able to give her first-year masters exam in architecture because of her marriage with Leo Smith. She had to prepare for the entire year's course in one month. She somehow managed, thanks to her brother David.

The reason she wants to complete her studies, so she could make the biggest hotel in City A and become a successful businesswoman in City A. She wants to taunt Leo Smith in front of his foreign associates. She remembers one incident, where a foreign gentleman told her,

"Her Highness, you are very lucky to marry Prince, who manages all City K matters and a very successful businessman of City A, you are lucky to have him as your husband..." and then his wife added, "and he's good looking too."

To which Andrea replied, "Oh, do continue...if you stop with your praises and compliments, then you might find yourself falling off a cliff..." they were confused, but her arrow had hit its mark. After listening to Andrea's reply, Leo got hurt.

Recalling that incident made her pleased with herself. Then she saw her reflection in the mirror; she had a smirk on her face. "Arghhh...that Leo Smith is rubbing off on me!!! Oh GOD, I hate that Smirk of his", she yelled.

But she was proud of herself, as in the last three months she succeeded in her goal of ruining the great Prince Leo Smith.

Before marrying Andrea, Leo managed every aspect of his hotel business from his home. But now Leo goes to the office daily, just to get away from Andrea. Leo left home every morning before she would awaken, and Andrea purposely went to bed early so that she wouldn't have to see his face when he came back from work.

If by some chance both of them ended up eating together, Leo would have to leave his meal midway because Andrea would say something like 'How can you still have an appetite after killing someone...'.

It was rare, but if she arose before him, she would stand outside his room door and say out loud, 'It's amazing how some people can sleep so peacefully after putting someone into a permanent sleep!!!'.

Usually Leo would never give in so easily, but he found himself fighting a losing battle with Andrea. He decided that he would let Andrea say and do as she wished, and he would always remain quiet.

Somewhere, deep in his heart, he still had faith that his love would triumph and that one day, Andrea would willingly come to him.

Andrea quickly showered and went downstairs to the dining area for breakfast. On the table in front of the chair where she sat was a small gift box and a little card.

She opened the present. It was a bracelet with three charms: 2 tiny golden hearts on either side of a little locket. She opened the locket; on one side, there was a picture of 3-year-old Andrea, and on the other hand, 5-year-old Leo. She then took the card to read:

'Happy Quarter year anniversary, princess... I still love you...I always will...'.

She crumpled the card with her hand. She put the bracelet back in the box and moved it to Leo's side of the table. She grabbed her phone and texted Leo.

'My Hatred for you grows every day!!!'
