How can we be so different

Dawn brought a magnificent scenery at the beach where Ken's house was located.

Kin was seated at the table pondering. In her stress yesterday she hadn't realised it. But now she did.

Looking at the furniture including the bed she had slept in at night, it was all outdated. Ark's history had once had furniture that was more or less the same as this but technology quickly advanced and so did the furniture.

Thinking back to the vehicle that had hit her the previous day, it had wheels. It didn't hover, it actually used wheels. How barbaric!

Vehicles with wheels on Arks were relics now, found only in museums. Then there was the house itself. Everything in it was of an older generation in Ark all of it was almost ancient.

At that moment, a certain thought popped up in her head. A thought that opened her mind to actual fear and regret.

On Ark, it was generally known that Earth was far superior to Ark in everything and hostile to everyone which was why no expeditions were ever held to visit Earth. Similarly, no contact with Earth or its Earthlings was allowed.

But what if all this was just a myth. What if the reason Earth made no contact with others was not due to their arrogance, but because they were incapable of it.

Wouldn't that mean that they were pitting all their hopes on a lost cause?

Kin frowned as she felt a headache coming on.

"This is bad." She thought to herself.

She knew she had no choice but to find a way back home to warn the Head Council. But how?

For one, she had no idea where her ship landed. All she remembers was that she had been attacked as she neared Earth's atmosphere forcing her to use her escape pod. At the time, she thought it was the Earthlings being their hostile selves but after seeing how inferior Earth's technology actually was, she highly doubted they were capable of something like that.

At that moment, Ken who had been in the kitchen came in holding two cups of tea. Of course he couldn't let himself wake up after her just in case. He greeted her but she didn't understand how to reply and just smiled.

Taking a sip of the tea, Kin was surprised. It was a really good beverage. It tasted way better than a lot of the things back on Ark. At that moment there was an awkward silence between the two as they sipped their tea.

"Do you want to watch something?" Ken asked tired of the silence.

Of course Kin didn't reply but he didn't wait for her to. He took the remote and turned on the tv. He started pondering on what an alien would like to watch and settled on a documentary about Mars. He wanted to verify if Kin was actually from Mars.

Kin first showed a surprised look before finally turning it to a frown. How could Earth possibly have video footage of this. It looked like Mars but in an ancient era before the Marsians moved in from wherever they came from. Even Ark wasn't advanced enough at the time. All the footage they had of this era was handed to them by the Marsians themselves.

Could it have been fake? No that made no sense. The footage was too similar to the ones she had studied at school in Ark. So then how did the Earthlings manage to obtain this video.

Seeing her expression change drastically, Ken didn't hesitate to change the channel.

"Damn! Was it a mis presentation of Mars. Had Nasa been lying to them all along."

Ken wanted to ask Kin a lot of questions but the language barrier was a problem. He suddenly had an bizarre thought. What if she's actually speaking a language that is also spoken on Earth. It was crazy but he had to give it a try at least.

He suddenly turned to look at Kin who looked back at him puzzled as to what came over him. Then he pointed at his chest with his thumb and said "Ken."

Kin almost immediately understood and did the same thing introducing herself. Then Ken pointed at his mouth saying "English".

Kin was at first confused. Is he saying mouth in his language? But then it hit her. Indeed there were planets that had people who spoke two different languages. Some even three. If Earth had Greek speakers, it would help ease the communication barrier. So she pointed at her mouth and said "Greek".

Of course she said it in Greek so Ken understood absolutely nothing.

"Well that was a huge waste of time." Ken thought inwardly. It was an extremely crazy idea anyway. How could the aliens understand human language?

Seeing all hope lost from the man's face, Kin immediately understood. There were no Greek speakers on Earth.

"How can we be so different?" She thought sighing.

However, at the next moment, she raised her head in confusion. Something wasn't right.
