Development

The hour quickly passed as I explored my powers. After using my mind power for 20 minutes, I would start to feel mentally tired, as if I had just read through a thick history book, then I would have to wait for around 1 hour to use it again - safely that is. One thing that I noticed is that the more I use my power the more my body gets used to it, to the point that after repeating this process until night, my "cool down" time reduced by a few seconds, probably due to my body "adapting" capabilities.

During the day my clone was summoned and resummoned several times, causing me to get very tired after several times. Thankfully Pancy was there to save the day and made me a bountiful feast that carried me throughout the day.

This made me rethink some things. I need to find a way to replenish my energy other than through eating. And what better than the readily available electric energy?

{Just make sure to use a clone, I don't want to use my limited energy to revive you if you screw up.}

Yeah… wait you can what?

{Didn't I make it clear that as long I have energy there isn't anything I can't do?}

Indeed... but you said you have limited energy, how many times can you save me from death?

{I would prefer that you never put yourself in danger, but that isn't really feasible. If I was to put it into numbers then I would say 4 times...}

It should be more than enough for now, but why four?

As she said that something akin to a battery appeared in the room.

-What's that?

The battery was very plain looking if you ignore the fact that it's golden. There is a small display on the side with "100" on it.

{Can you see the numbers on it? That's how much energy "I" currently have. My other "me" has much more, but that amount is reserved for emergencies.}

I never really asked but, what would happen if your energy ran out?

{For me? Nothing, at most I would get locked in my room for well… An undefined amount of time, and to be frank, and don't even want to think about it. As for you… Let's say that hell is the least of your worries.}

That isn't comforting.

{As for your initial questions. It's four because the most basic revival, according to the nexus rules, will always cost 25 units. This number can and will increase depending on the situation and what rank I am in, but it will never go below that amount.}

After that, I proceeded with the preparations for my test, I gathered many small items that I knew my parents weren't going to miss, while also disassembling items that my parents don't use much if at all, I also used the holidays to go into my neighbor's houses and "borrow" several items for my plan. The preparations took around a week, but I could have finished them on the very first day, but I didn't want to just kill a clone, and even if the plan succeeds immediately, the items I got during it will surely be useful in the future.

The idea was to use a stable high resistance in series with my clone in order to have most of the voltage to be dropped in it, I had my already prepared machination be plugged on the charging wall. It's important to note that during the week I also had me and my clone go through many papers on the subject to make sure nothing was overlooked…

I also took most of the preparations in case something went wrong, such as if something started burning. But now with all things ready, I went to the garage while avoiding Pancy. It may be an amazing house care robot but it doesn't have high perception at all, the most it can sense is through sounds and light.

In the garage, I opened a box that I had hidden behind a pile of boxes and brought it to the charging wall. After having my clone prepare everything as I watched from a safe distance I gave it a thumbs up.

The clone then picked a sheet of metal and put another hand on a switch and immediately switched it on. I could almost feel the pain as the clone just trembled slightly but did not fall unconscious.

-Did it work? I said out loud

{Yup}

YEAHH BABY THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR

{Kinda. It will take a lot more tries for your clones to be able to just charge themselves like that. Many more, but it will happen}

I already expected that but a success is a success, and anyway, after I recall the clone I will gain part of that resistance, and next time I create I clone, he will start better than previously, but now I have a way to keep my clones active 24/7

{As long as that resistance lasts that is, or if anything doesn't burn until then}

Well, it's better than having them charge through sunlight… I did try that and even though It works, It isn't as close to this method, after all, my clones are made from my body, and I can't do photosynthesis… yet. But anyway, why did this work in the first place?

{... I don't know if I should praise you for what you accomplished or if I should call you an idiot. But if an answer is what you are looking for, then the reason is even though your clones have a physical body, they aren't living beings, more like husks with your will in them. Hence the energy absorbed will be converted and stored inside of them. Of course, there are still a lot of minor things that have to happen to make it work, but leave that part to me. As you find more energy sources to use in your clone, I can make some changes in it so that the technique still works properly. Don't worry about the energy costs, it's very minimal.}

Now that I have this out of the way, I better go back to my previous schedule of studying/lazing around. There isn't much a 1 and a half-year-old can do apart from playing, which I am already tired of. Playing 24/7 may sound like a dream, that is, if you aren't playing with baby toys.

For now, I will have my clone study multiple languages, while I will spend most of my free time watching videos on something similar to You*ube. From science to martial arts, I don't really have a focus, but know that this knowledge will help in the future.

And so the days passed. And thankfully apart from my mom frowning at the electricity bill, the house never burned, and as I was free most of the time I spent my time outside of other people's eyes.

/One and a half years later…/

Last week was my birthday and with it, a third clone came to join the gang. Now with three clones, one with a tablet, one on the computer, and another on a hand watch that creates a holographic interface, my learning speed is off the charts.

In the last year and a half, I learned a multitude of things. I learned all of the top 50 most used languages, and all of my school subjects are on university levels, and then there's all of the random knowledge I gathered throughout the time. Smithing, Martial arts, Instruments, Pottery? Well, you name it. My clones work from behind the scenes, while I watch TV… Absolutely perfect.

The only problem is my parent's current conditions. My father, a lawyer has currently a shitload of things to do ever since he got a promotion half a year ago, and my mother being a Police officer also got her promotion 2 months ago, and is just as deep in Paperwork. You might think, "where did all of our money come from?". and I shall answer: a rich Grandpa.

The thing is that, years ago, my grandpa used to run a big company that would eventually be given to dad, but that ended up "failing" after he found out that dad wasn't interested in running it. So he went and sold it for billions of yen so that dad could get part of the money he worked so hard to make. The thing is he was very, very sick, so sick that not much long after selling the company he succumbed to the illness. But not before putting it in a locked bank account that will only open when I get 16 years old. Why? Don't ask me, neither dad nor mom speaks about the subject apart from some very rare mentions.

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

There it was, the hardest challenge in this life to date.
