It took five hours to drive out to the front. After heading northeast through the former no-man's-land where Zai had her first encounter with the Second Lightning, the heavy trucks carrying her entire Battalion turned north along the railroad tracks.
Getting off at the ruins of the train station was a relief after being vibrated up to their skulls by the rough ride.
The building was in rough shape, but still had its roof, so that was a plus.
The forward commander, a Captain named Gao Guowei, greeted Zai and briefed her on the situation.
General Jiang's men had set up a thick, tough line all along the southernmost parts of the city, but had dedicated a significant amount of force to keeping the train station pinned down. Even from where they stood deep inside the structure, Zai could hear gunfire and explosions every few seconds.
