Final Interlude - The Master
Above the burning capital of Aviye, Markus admired his handiwork.
He savored the souls that came to him, drawn upward by the slight void he projected into the world's ambient ether, absorbing as much of it as he could in order to fuel his flight and his shields while he waited.
Yet his heart was restive.
Something had happened to his other body.
He'd felt the distant stirrings of the man's emotions... then a brief sense of intrusion that he'd quickly blocked... and then nothing.
What had happened? He wondered as he waited for his hated foe to appear. Had Hume tried yet another of his schemes? Had the foolish monkeys on the ship allowed the body a moment of freedom, despite his orders?
Markus had wanted to go check, but he wasn't about to leave his newest, strongest body so soon. Not in the moment of his triumph.
