"Nate, you have the opportunity to learn it, you should take it seriously," Lucian said to him earnestly.
Nate looked at how he genuinely wanted him to study swordfight and immediately understood. At least he could be taught. But what about Lucian?
He had no father to teach him, he was blind and was rumored as the devil in the whole town. The worst part was the rumor going around about him burning a farmer till his skin peeled off. Some still believe it might just be a rumor, but Nate knew it was a fact. He was there when it happened.
That day, they had gone to look for rabbits in the forest, because Lucian insisted on keeping one as a pet. He said he loved how fluffy they felt in his arms. So he had dragged him along to catch one. Who knew that after managing to get one from their thorough search, they would meet this man who claimed he owned that rabbit because he saw it passing by first? Where was that ideology coming from?
The man insisted on taking the rabbit away and Lucian and Nate refused to give in. Seeing that they were just kids, he decided to use force. So he got hold of Lucian who was holding the unfortunate rabbit, intending to take it out of his hand but he didn't expect the boy to have an abnormal strength.
Realizing he was losing to a boy, he got furious, and out of nowhere he brought out a knife and stabbed the rabbit in Lucian's arms. While the man had a smirk on his face, Lucian and Nate stood there in horror watching the poor rabbit struggle till its last breath.
Nate was still shocked at that time, so he didn't realize Lucian was losing himself. Before he came to his senses, Lucian had rushed to the man leaving the lifeless rabbit on the ground. His speed was unimaginable. The man had not expected this, and hence, got held by surprise.
Just as Lucian held him, the man seemed to have been paralyzed. Lucian pushed him to his knees so easily that it felt like he weighed a paperweight. He stared straight into his eyes and the unexpected happened.
The man began to shake vigorously and he started screaming in agony. His skin turned red as if he was burning, but there was no fire. It then began peeling off with Lucian still holding tightly onto him.
The scene was so scary and Nate stood there dumbstruck. Realizing Lucian was going to kill the man, he rushed there intending to pull Lucian away, then he saw his eyes. They were all golden, and the black pupil had simply vanished. He was long gone. It was the first time he was seeing Lucian like that, but then again he knew his best friend has never been ordinary.
Nate knew if he didn't stop Lucian the man would die, and this will bring them problems. So he started calling his name. It didn't work until he mentioned his mother, and Lucian calmed down. Coming to his senses he realized he had lost control, luckily Nate had stopped him on time, or else he would have murdered a person.
They had run home intending to keep what had happened a secret. Who would have thought that the man they had spared half the life, and after the heavens helping him to keep the other, will go around spreading the news? Luckily people thought he was a lunatic since nobody truly believed such things could happen. But the burns he had still caused many people to think otherwise. After all, Lucian indeed was known as a freak. Hence, people pushed themselves further away from him. The kids would not play with him, and the adults didn't want him near them.
Although Lucian never expressed his grief, he could tell he was struggling within. Being treated like an outcast was a pain.
On top of it, Lucian had always wanted to learn sword fighting, and no matter how much Nate begged his father, he refused to accept Lucian. He even threatened to ground him if he kept on seeing him. But of course, he didn't have a uniqueness in stubbornness for nothing.
He didn't know why, but he always felt better and at peace whenever he was with Lucian. He didn't like to see him lonely at all. Then suddenly, he thought of something.
"Little god! I think you can learn swordsmanship too." Nate said with a wide grin, looking like he suddenly got a brilliant idea.
