Walking Behind

In a big dark room, the sound of a ticking clock could be heard. The outside weather was visible from the window of the room. The snow was falling heavily. There was only one place that was illuminated inside the whole room. The table beside the bed. A floating lamp above it was casting dim yellow light upon.

Alphine was sitting at that table, with her chin on one hand. A book was opened in front of her. But her mind was somewhere else, she was thinking about Yu.

A silver haired boy, with fair skin and crystal blue eyes. A student of class A-2.

Seeing him in the class he looked like any other child. But today when she talked to him, he seemed a bit... different. His eyes. When she looked into those crystal clear blue eyes, she felt uneasy.

Those eyes looked empty.

It seemed like he was wearing a disguise. His words and his eyes were expressing contradictory things.

His eyes as if were longing for...

WARMTH.

He had left a while ago but she couldn't get those blue eyes out of her mind.

"Haa." She closed the book and got up from the chair. She walked towards the window and placed a hand on it. She looked towards the forest behind the Rainbow Lake. The snowfall was making it hard to look.

"It starts tomorrow."

She left the window after a sigh, her handprint was left on the window.

The first class was about to start. Students were as usual talking with their friends. I was sitting on the left side of the last row.

"Is this seat occupied?" A voice came from the side. A boy with curly red hair was standing there.

"No."

He sat down next to me.

"By the way.. I am, Frey Grilper. Nice to meet you."

"Yu Rorgesberg. Nice to meet you too."

I glanced at the clock, the time was 6:55 a.m.

"Um.."

I glanced sideways on hearing the voice. The boy sitting next to me was cracking his knuckles while peeking at me again and again. He was nervous. I guess he wants to say something.

"Want to say something?"

"Yes!, So...um..do you think we can collect 100 points by the end of 4 years?" He really was holding back.

"I don't know. What about you?"

"I want to believe that we can but it's really hard. I was calculating yesterday and I found out that we can score about 80 points easily in our first year only, if we perform excellently the whole year.

We study five subjects in the first year and the subject exams are held every month, if we get 1 point in each subject every month then we can easily score 60 points. Then, there is also an Annual exam and different events which can get us points too. And after that we have three more years to collect the remaining points. So it seems really easy.

But knowing the reputation of the academy I can't really say anything."

"Hmmm."

His theory was half right but there were many loopholes.

First, he included the months of Summer Break and Winter break too. There would be no activity during holidays.

Second, he only looked at the one side of the coin. He forgot that points can also be deducted.

Third, events. Nothing can be said about them. So, counting them as a beneficiary thing can be a mistake.

"Ha ha, you know I was very nervous when I was giving the entrance exam, I really wanted to get enrolled in this Academy. My brother was the reason for it.

He enrolled in the Magnus Academy three years ago. He was good at everything from childhood so I knew that he would qualify for sure. Whenever he came home, he always told me about how amazing the academy is and also showed some staggering magic and swordplay. He looked really cool. He is my inspiration from the childhood.

He is in the fourth year now. I met him last week, and he said he has to collect some few points more and he will be able to graduate as an Elite then. I want to follow his footsteps and graduate as an Elite too."

"I see, best of luck for the future."

"Thankyou, same to you too."

Ding! Ding!

The bell rang and Professor Alphine entered. Everybody stopped talking and looked at the front.

"Good morning students." She looked at the whole class and then spoke again.

"The first event of the First years' will be held next week."

Ha ha. I can't believe the appearance of our protagonist is revealed in Chapter 8.
