A risky proposal

Jasmine's pov

"Good morning ma'am," a receptionist said as I stepped into Liam's office. "Good morning, I'm here to see Liam," I said with a smile.

"Do you have an appointment with him?" She asked and I shook my head. "Tell him Jasmine Reed is here to see him," I replied and she nodded.

I waited impatiently as she called Liam on the phone. I knew he would be surprised to see me after two years I left for school in another country.

I couldn't wait to see him as well, I couldn't wait to see the love of my life. The one my heart has yearned for since I was a small girl.

"You can go upstairs ma'am," the receptionist said and I nodded. I went upstairs and knocked on his door.

"Come in," Liam said in his raspy voice that made me shiver. I opened the door gently and his eyes went wide and his mouth wide open when he saw me.

"Jasmine! This is a pleasant surprise, when my receptionist said a Jasmine is waiting for me downstairs. I didn't know it was you," he said and gave me a hug.

"I wanted to give you a surprise," I smiled and hugged him tightly. The feeling of his body against mine made me feel tingly inside.

His scent has been something I have always loved. His scent was a rich blend of woods and spices. It was soothing to the soul.

"Well, I'm surprised," he chuckled as he pulled away from the hug. I stared at him and he hasn't changed much.

His lean but muscular feature, his blue eyes, soft and inviting pink lips that I want to kiss so bad.

"You haven't changed much. You look more beautiful now though," he Said and I blushed.

"Thank you and you don't look bad yourself," I smiled and he grinned. I sat on the couch and he sat beside me.

I looked round the office, it gives a homely vibe with the grey color. His desk pilled with a lot of files and music playing softly in the background.

"How was school? How is life there?" He asked and I sighed. "School was good and life is good as well. I'm happy to be back here," I replied.

"I'm happy you are back as well. I missed all the time we spend together," he said and it warmed my heart.

"I missed you too and everything we shared. Our movie nights, hiking and baking together. I missed all that and that's why am here," I confessed and he raised a curious brow.

"I missed all that too. I didn't bake since you left and I barely go hiking anymore. We used to do stupid things," he grinned and I giggled.

"I have something to tell you," I whispered and he raised a curious brow.

I want to confess my undying love for my brother's best friend who is seven years older than me.

"You look serious right now. I hope everything is fine," he said and his face scrunched up with worry. It warmed my heart to know that he cares about me.

"I uh I..." I stuttered but was interrupted by Liam's phone ringing. He raised his hand up to indicate he wants to pick the call.

"Let me call you back please. We will talk about the wedding plans later," he said over the phone and ended the call.

I raised a curious brow. Who is getting married?

"Who is getting married?" I asked him and he chuckled nervously. "Let's leave that aside. What are you saying earlier?" He asked me instead and I know something is not right.

"I came here because of you, Liam. I want to start a life with you because I love you. I have always loved you since we were kids. I love you, Liam," I confessed and he shifted in his seat.

"Jasmine, I don't know what to say. I care about you and love you as my little sister," he said as he rubbed his neck which is the way he does anytime he is nervous.

"I love you, Liam. I want you, I want to be with you," I added and he shook his head.

"That's not possible, Jasmine. You can't be in love with me," he spoke as he walked away from me. My heart hammered in my chest and I tried to keep my tears in my eyes.

"Why? Why can't I love you? We promised to always love each other," I said in a shaky voice.

"You can't love me, Jasmine. You are my best friend's sister," he muttered softly.

"It doesn't matter, Liam," I walked towards him and made him look into my eyes.

"You are my best friend's sister. I love you but I don't have feelings for you. I don't see you as a lover," he said softly, his face holding an emotion I can't comprehend and tears rolled down my cheeks.

"Liam, don't do this to me. I really love you," I muttered admist tears.

"This is reality, Jasmine. Nothing can happen between us. I'm sorry," he said softly as he wiped my tears.

I held his palm on my cheek without wanting him to let go.

"Please don't leave me. I love you, I really do," I cried and his eyes softened.

"I hate to see you like this and you know that but this can't work between us," he rubbed his temples.

"Why? Why can't you love me? We promised to always be together. Is there someone else?" I asked and he sighed.

"Jasmine," he muttered with a sigh. "Liam" I called and he raised his hands up in surrender.

"There's someone else," he confessed and my heart broke again. "Liam, why? Why did you do this to me? You have always known how I feel about you," I accused him.

"I'm thirty years old, Jasmine. Don't make this harder for me please," he begged.

"Who is she?" I demanded. "Rachel," he whispered and i was surprised.

"Rachel? I thought you never loved her. She and Alex used to be so close so why her?" I asked confusingly.

Rachel, Alex who is my brother and Liam are close friends. My dad, Rachel's dad and Liam's dad used to be business partners which made them to bring their children together as one.

When we were younger, I never liked Rachel because she was a bully but Alex really like her. I don't know how Liam ended up with her.

"I fell in love with her. She loves me not Alex," he explained and I rolled my eyes.

I can't believe Liam just rejected me. I thought he loved me too but he doesn't.

"You must really love her for you to reject me," I muttered sadly. "I love her, Jasmine," he said.

I nodded my head and wiped my tears. I will go home now and cry my eyes out alone. "I don't want you to be hurt. I can't afford to see you this way," Liam said to me as he gave me a hug.

"You hurt me already. You don't even love me," I muttered and he sighed as he dug his hand into my hair.

He started giving me a head massage like he always did but I pulled away. "You don't have to do all this anymore," I said and carried my bag.

"I still care about you, Jasmine," he muttered softly. "You don't," I argued. "You know I do," he countered.

"If you really care about me, you would want to be with me," I snapped. "I'm getting married to Rachel. I'm sorry, jasmine," he confessed.
