123 Training

After that I got the all clear to head out again and ended up knocking boots with Samantha and setting the date for my next challenge before I left Mauville in a north western direction. There was an inactive volcano off in that direction that had a flat top that was home to ice type pokemon. I had two weeks roughly before my next challenge and I needed to drill Gaia and Rune hard if we wanted to get strong enough not to struggle against Watson. There were some tropical trees on the way to the area reported to have the stronger pokemon but they thinned out the further we went.-

Vulcan had long since been let lose to go hunt while I trained the other two when we arrived. "Rune you go first and tag out when you get tired." I said and he responded with an enthusiastic "Char!". "Tree? Tree? Ko?" Yani asked and I thought about it for a moment. "Well I suppose you could start working on a custom move like what the others have?" I suggested and she seemed thoughtful before nodding. She went straight to work and had her paw glowing green immediately so I left her alone as she clearly had something in mind.-

Rune needed roughly seven more levels in order to get to the minimum seventy that I wanted my team at for the next challenge. His first opponent was a level seventy four Magcargo that was the bane of Runes existence as it knew heat wave and four different rock or ground type moves that it used viciously. There was a lot of dodging involved in that particular battle as the Magcargo made it hard for Rune to have any time to charge an attack. The super effective attacks also forced Rune to be on the defensive as he couldn't afford to tank them.-

It was tight but Rune managed to get the Magcargo at the end with a dirty thunder punch in an uppercut after looking like he had passed out in front of it. "Several dozen bruises , three broken ribs and a broken collarbone in exchange for two levels seems like a bad trade off to me." I teased him as I healed him and Gaia bullied another Magcargo that thought it was the shit at level seventy two , it was not.-

It had this whole combo where it would use smog like four times to heavily poison Gaia before using acid armor to wait out her desperate onslaught. At least that was how I think it expected the battle to go but Gaia had shed skin as an ability so you can understand the pointlessness of poisoning her. As it turned out Gaia apparently REALLY didn't like stallers trying that stuff against her and made it clear as she used stone grasp twice and literally played catch with the poor Magcargo by having one stone hand pick it up and throw it while the other waited for it to land before throwing it back.-

'Note to self , have Gaia learn how to throw boulders with her stone grasp hands.' I thought seeing this strange but interesting sight. She ended up getting a level from it but I chose not to comment on it. Yani ended up surprising me by asking to feel my healing ability for herself which honestly should have tipped me off the sort of move she was making but it didn't. Still i did as she wanted while Gaia fought a level seventy Golem that had shown up after the racket her impromptu game of catch caused.-

Gaia lost that fight pretty badly as the golem used three consecutive rock polishes followed by a lot of fighting type rock smashes as it out maneuvered Gaia. I didn't need to save her thankfully as the golem seemed satisfied dishing out punishment to her for disturbing it's sleep and left after she got knocked out. She was depressed after she woke up and I was healing her with some potions and my ability. I couldn't really blame her either as that golem was clearly quite experienced at fighting other rock types.-

"Cheer up Gaia , you will likely be able to kill that Golem with a single attack after you evolve again." I said with a smile and she seemed to feel better about her self. Out of nowhere an orb of green struck her but rather than harm her it sank in and I watched as the cracks in her carapace visibly healed. We both looked towards the source of the orb only to find out that it was none other than Yani who looked quite pleased with herself. "Alright explain , what did you just do?" I asked very curiously.-

Yani then went on to explain how she reversed the process of mega drain from taking life force to instead giving it by copying the way my healing ability "felt" and then concentrating the effect in a single orb. I can't even begin to explain how fucking busted that entire idea was , like how the hell do you turn a damaging move into a healing one? The worse part was that Yani was explaining it like it was an easy thing to fucking do and not an entirely new thing for grass types moves. -

There aren't any true healing grass type moves as the only ones that appear that way do so by stealing the life of others to help the user. This was an entirely unprecedented thing and that was a HUGE thing , like call Birch for damage control type big. "Geez Alex , it's only been half a day so what did you do this time?" Birch asked half jokingly. "So my newest pokemon just used a healing grass type move." i said seriously. "Um well congratulations I guess? I don't see why you would call about something like that though?" he said confused.-

"No I mean like a wish sort of healing move , but using grass type energy." I clarified and the line went silent. "If this is a joke I swear to god Alex. Okay I need details , what exactly does the move do?" he asked and I told him the same thing that Yani who was listening in from nearby told me. "How? Just how in Mews name did your pokemon just subvert CENTURIES of established knowledge!? Do you have any blasted idea how much of a craze this will set off when it gets out!?" Birch exclaimed excited and depressed at the same time.-

I knew for a fact that he wasn't exaggerating at all as while grass type pokemon were prevalent in the medical industry because of their powdered and poison moves they weren't seen as healing pokemon. But with this single new move I doubted the Joy clan wouldn't immediately start training grass types for the roll of healer as it would turn the type from drugs and situationally useful to straight up must have additions to medical teams. That was not even considering the implication this would have in battle as grass types were the second most commonly used pokemon type in the entire world.
