Chapter 67: Hopefully I won't get caught!

"Oh, a cake? A pizza? Is there some celebration tonight?" Lucas asks nervously.

"Well, I have some very good news," Toni happily announces. "Look at this," she offers, handing him her tablet.

"This? This is a miniaturized arc reactor? Y-you did it? I-I can't believe it," Luke responds, looking at the simulated model on the tablet blankly.

"Yes! And it's all thanks to you!" Toni says happily as she hugs Luke and kisses him on the cheek. "If you hadn't kept talking about this tech with such certainty, I would never have tried to solve it. But you were right—it is definitely possible!" Toni exclaims excitedly.

"Yes, I-I changed it," Luke states in a deeply thoughtful expression. "What will happen now?" he inquires in a small voice.

"You're not happy? Why aren't you happy?" Toni asks, narrowing her eyes.

"No, no, I am very happy! Tonight, I'm even up for drinking! Where is Pepper, by the way?" Luke shakes his head and forces a smile.

"I don't care if you drink, just don't let Madeline find out. She already hates me for corrupting her precious son!" Toni says exasperated as she goes towards the vodka bottle. "And Pepper has gone overseas to buy something for me; she'll be back tomorrow morning," Toni mentions as she opens the bottle.

"Alright," Luke acknowledges, taking a deep breath and quieting his thoughts.

"Come, let's celebrate. Tonight is a very happy occasion!" Toni exclaims with a smile as she brings a glass of vodka to Luke.

"Yes, tonight is truly a joyous occasion," Luke expresses with a complicated expression as he takes the glass. He gazes at Toni, who has already started drinking, and lets out a long sigh.

"Okay, no more movies while drinking," Luke states in exasperation as he turns off the widescreen playing another action movie.

Luke takes a silent breath of relief. "Can I ask why? Are you really a lesbian?" Luke probes with a worried look.

"It has something to do with my father. I didn't get along with him just like you with yours. He was always immersed in work, often expressing his disappointment that I wasn't born a boy. While he never resorted to physical violence, his words were sharp and hurtful, a constant barrage of verbal abuse." Toni pauses, taking a sip of her drink before continuing.

"I-I don't blame him; I blame alcohol. It brought out the worst in him, transforming him into someone unrecognisable. Desperate for his approval, I found myself following his path, turning to drinking in hopes of gaining his acceptance," Toni explains with a bitter smile.

Luke just sits there awkwardly, not knowing how to react in this situation.

"Then he sent me to a boarding school at a young age. He must have wanted to forget about me. The boarding school was all girls, and there I started experimenting with the senior girls." Toni continues with an awkward smile.

"Before I knew it, I had a string of girlfriends with me," she adds, her tone reflecting a mix of reminiscence and unease.

"Years passed, and I started seeing my father in each guy who tried to get too close to me. Most of them couldn't stand me being smarter than them, so in the end, I kept dating women, even though it made my father mad, thinking I was doing it to embarrass him," Toni sighs helplessly.

"Mother tried her best, but he was a stubborn man. Even on the night of their accident, we had just had a fight about my relationship with a rival group's daughter," Toni recounts as she drinks another cup.

"I-I am sorry for asking," Luke stammers awkwardly.

"Don't sweat it; that's the thing of the past. Tell me about you. Your summer break is almost over. What are your plans? Are you finally willing to leave school and go to college?" Toni asks with interest.

"M-maybe I'll go to college, but before that, I have a personal project to complete," Luke mumbles quietly.

"What project?" Toni inquires with a raised eyebrow.

"I want to build an A.I. and then also start a company of my own," Luke announces with determination.

Toni whistles. "Those are some grand dreams. The A.I. alone will take you years, and it's still not certain if you will be able to make a good one. You are smart, but you need to be a genius like me to create a competent one."

"As for a company, you can't own one before 18, so you will need someone to be an interim for your position, and you need lots of money. I suggest waiting until you are older. After some years, you can have a crack at both these things after you have more experience," Toni advises sincerely.

"Okay, okay, calm down. I can help, alright? Just ask for whatever you need," Toni offers with a smile.

Instead of heading to the main area, he moves towards a corner where another door leads downward. He goes down and, upon opening a door, finds himself inside a server room. He steps into the huge room with several big processors and goes towards the very end.

Luke squats down and removes a USB pendrive attached there. "This is the last part. Hopefully, Skye's program worked, and I won't get caught," Luke mutters with a sigh as he puts the USB in his pocket and returns to his room with a satisfied smile.
