Chapter four

Dave was lost in thought sitting alone in his study, he was beginning to doubt the fact that his sister might be cursed.

She doesn't appear to him like someone who was cursed and she hasn't acted out of character.

Maybe Arran was wrong, Dave but he knew the fellow was rarely wrong.

"I do not intend to confuse you with news of your sister being cursed" As if he knew he was being thought of, Arran materialized out of the air.

He looks troubled, he walks slowly to the window and Dave believes the man was also as confused as him.

"I remember warning you about appearing in my home without warning" Dave expressed his displeasure at his sudden presence.

"That is the least of your problems, I will be back later. You have a visitor, your human friend is here" Arran said sarcastically before vanishing.

Dave was still wondering what he meant by human friend.

When a gentle knock sounded from the door and the door was pushed open before he answered.

The scent he was now familiar with invaded his nostrils before the small frame of the maid walked through the door.

He could feel his beast go excited by just inhaling her intoxicating scent.

This is a reaction he was supposed to give when he finds his mate.

Why is he this excited about the presence of a human?

She could not be his mate right?

No, she can not be!

"Good afternoon sir" she greeted politely, the encounter they had a couple of days ago wandered into Dave's memory and he almost could not believe it was the same person that was before him.

She had talked rudely to him disregarding him being her employer.

He knew she would not dare if she wasn't human.

"What do you want?" Dave asked, sounding cold.

He intended to block out his beast to focus on their conversation.

"I-i want to ask for permission to leave early today," she said, stammering a bit.

She seemed flustered and Dave was surprised by it.

"Why do you want to leave early?"

Dave was utterly confused by her request.

He knows little about how the maids do their things.

He only cares about the mansion being in the best condition, what happened behind all that is not his concern.

He has enough work on his plate to worry about that.

Despite all that he decides to entertain her just to keep her with him for longer.

He would need to figure out what was going on before he acts.

" I asked Gladys to let me leave early but she asked me to tell that to you instead".

Ellen had been very angry before coming to meet him.

She has a picnic date with Skye in an hour and she had gone to meet the head maid Gladys that she needs to go home early but the woman had been heartless by telling her to discuss that with their employer instead.

Recalling the way she talked made her blood boil with anger over again.

Now standing before the boss she had been sent to, she cannot even talk properly.

Because of the somewhat embarrassing moment, they had been before.

She can even remember calling him stupid in her mind the other day.

Holy shit!.

Ellen feels terrible thinking about what he might say to her.

"What is your name?"

"Hmm?" The question caught her off guard, she had expected his scolding or something along that line.

"Ellen".

She replied after a little while.

"Come closer"

Ellen finds herself obeying the command willingly.

Dave stared at her innocent expression for a moment before proceeding to tease her a bit.

"Why don't you think of a way to prove yourself worthy of taking some time off so that I can grant your request"

Dave said, laughing inwardly.

Ellen feels the urge to slap him across the face, how can he ask her to prove her worth?

Ellen bit back the snarky remark on her tongue before she said it.

She must not ruin this opportunity.

Skye would not be happy if she canceled.

" I don't know what to do to prove that to you, but if you have any request I will try my best to oblige " Ellen continued to keep her image even if it was close to being impossible.

Hearing her response, Dave gets up from his seat and walks around his seat to get close to her.

Ellen took a step back when he got closer, and they repeated the action until he backed her against the wall.

"What do you want me to do?" Ellen said softly, her heart was beginning to race faster because of their proximity.

He smells like hot chocolate.

She suddenly craved some hot chocolate.

"I also do not know, why don't we make a deal?" Dave suggests.

Ellen nodded slowly, as she cannot make her mouth open to talk.

What is happening to her?

"I will let you go but you will owe me one till I can think of what I want from you," Dave said, bending a little to reach her eye level.

To owe him one?Is that wise?

Ellen wanted to refuse but she knew she had no choice but to dance to his tune now.

She will change the game later once she has gotten what she wants.

"Okay, that seems fair enough. Thank you" Ellen said cheerfully.

She laughs evilly in her mind.

He was in for a long ride because she will never do what he wants.

"Okay, we have a deal. You can go"

Ellen gave a mental dance of victory before bolting out the door.

Gladys was surprised when she reported to her that he had allowed her to go.

"Are you sure you are telling the truth?" She asked, not ready to believe what she just heard.

"You can confirm with him if you want, that is your business. I'm leaving." Ellen knew the older woman would be too scared to meet him.

She and the other maids are always scared of him and she cannot understand why.

He is their boss right? he is supposed to be respected not feared.

She would need to explain that to them later, only if they listen.
