Uma Musume: From Nobody to Heartthrob

I'm the translator, so I kind of have to give this a 5 star rating. But if I look at the novel objectively, I'd give it closer to a 4-4.5 star rating. I'll be egotistical and say that my translation makes it 5 stars. The story is, overall, really solid. The System doesn't drive the plot forward too much, but it rather gives the main character the opportunity to bridge the gap between her and other Umas. This applies to both racing and relationships. The main character is a very interesting protagonist. Inwardly, she's a bit snarky and sarcastic, but outwardly, she's extremely kind towards others. The snark never seems mean-spirited or off-putting, and usually adds a lot to the humor. She reminds me a bit of Nice Nature in a way. The main character is also *extremely* determined to achieve her goals. It's written in an appealing way, and it never seems like the Author is trying too hard to make her seem determined. Most of the side characters are written in a way that resembles their in-game personalities, and I haven't seen any outrageous moments where they're acting out of character. Despite a lot of the focus being on slice of life/romance, the races are plentiful and are enjoyable to read. Nothing too crazy, but they're nice. And best of all, the Author doesn't cram in a ton of Chinese references at every possible opportunity, which is extremely rare in these kinds of fanfics. So overall, it's a good novel. There's a few minor flaws that keep it from being a true 5 star novel for me, but they're hard to name off the top of my head.
