In episode 117 of "Battle Through the Heavens", Xiao Yan was requested by the Ye clan to marry Ye Xin Lan in order to help the Ye clan retain the position of an Elder in the Pill Tower. Xiao Yan originally wanted to reject it but Ye Xin Lan had personally requested it in order to protect the reputation of the clan. The Little Fairy Doctor also advised Xiao Yan to agree and Xiao Yan could only reluctantly agree. At this moment, Cao Dan of the Cao clan had appeared. He wanted to marry Ye Xin Lan. Xiao Yan, as the son-in-law of the Ye clan in name, naturally did not allow him to do so. Cao Dan was a tier 7 alchemist. He was challenging Xiao Yan to compete with his fire controlling ability. Cao Dan first released the beast flame while Xiao Yan took out the 'Green Lotus Core Flame' to deal with it. Cao Dan saw Xiao Yan take out a 'Heavenly Flame' and a couple of high level flames to exchange blows with the 'Green Lotus Core Flame'. Two and a half minutes later, Xiao Yan found it difficult to block the many high level flames and was mocked by Cao Dan. After which, Xiao Yan displayed ten types of flames that had transformed into strange beasts behind him. Cao Dan was so frightened that he repeatedly retreated. He even said that although Xiao Yan could defeat him, he was definitely not a match for his clan in the Pill Tower before fleeing in panic. After which, Xiao Yan, the Little Fairy Doctor, Ye Xin Lan, and Tian Huo zun-zhe used the teleportation array to head to the Pill Tower to participate in the Pill Gathering. On the way, Xiao Yan advanced to the Spirit stage among alchemists. After arriving at the Pill Tower, the qualification test segment was carried out. The Ye clan's reputation caused Xiao Yan to be mocked by an old woman. The chief of the Ye clan did not dare to say much even though he was mocked. He only said some harsh words. Under the introduction of the Pill Tower's Elder, Xiao Yan chose the highest tier test tunnel. The old woman had been looking down on the Ye clan chief during the couple of minutes of the test. When the tunnel emitted a golden light that indicated that Xiao Yan was a tier 7 middle class alchemist, the old woman's face turned pale. Xiao Yan no longer endured it when he came out and directly attacked to send the old woman flying. At the same time, this episode also mentioned the First Elder of the Ye clan and Cao Ying, the demoness of the Cao clan. She might be Xiao Yan's strongest enemy during this Pill Gathering.
