The Gospel of Luke

The Gospel of Luke

The Gospel according to Luke is the first part of a two-volume work that continues the biblical history of God’s dealings with humanity found in the Old Testament, showing how God’s promises to Israel have been fulfilled in Jesus and how the salvation promised to Israel and accomplished by Jesus has been extended to the Gentiles. The stated purpose of the two volumes is to provide Theophilus and others like him with certainty—assurance—about earlier instruction they have received. To accomplish his purpose, Luke shows that the preaching and teaching of the representatives of the early church are grounded in the preaching and teaching of Jesus, who during his historical ministry prepared his specially chosen followers and commissioned them to be witnesses to his resurrection and to all else that he did. This continuity between the historical ministry of Jesus and the ministry of the apostles is Luke’s way of guaranteeing the fidelity of the Church’s teaching to the teaching of Jesus. Luke’s story of Jesus and the church is dominated by a historical perspective. This history is first of all salvation history. God’s divine plan for human salvation was accomplished during the period of Jesus, who through the events of his life fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies, and this salvation is now extended to all humanity in the period of the church. This salvation history, moreover, is a part of human history. Luke relates the story of Jesus and the church to events in contemporary Palestinian history for, as Paul says, “this was not done in a corner.” Finally, Luke relates the story of Jesus and the church to contemporaneous church history. Luke is concerned with presenting Christianity as a legitimate form of worship in the Roman world, a religion that is capable of meeting the spiritual needs of a world empire like that of Rome. To this end, Luke depicts the Roman governor Pilate declaring Jesus innocent of any wrongdoing three times. At the same time Luke argues in Acts that Christianity is the logical development and proper fulfillment of Judaism and is therefore deserving of the same toleration and freedom traditionally accorded Judaism by Rome. The prominence given to the period of the church in the story has important consequences for Luke’s interpretation of the teachings of Jesus. By presenting the time of the church as a distinct phase of salvation history, Luke accordingly shifts the early Christian emphasis away from the expectation of an imminent parousia to the day-to-day concerns of the Christian community in the world. He does this in the gospel by regularly emphasizing the words “each day” in the sayings of Jesus. Although Luke still believes the parousia to be a reality that will come unexpectedly, he is more concerned with presenting the words and deeds of Jesus as guides for the conduct of Christian disciples in the interim period between the ascension and the parousia and with presenting Jesus himself as the model of Christian life and piety. Throughout the gospel, Luke calls upon the Christian disciple to identify with the master Jesus, who is caring and tender toward the poor and lowly, the outcast, the sinner, and the afflicted, toward all those who recognize their dependence on God, but who is severe toward the proud and self-righteous, and particularly toward those who place their material wealth before the service of God and his people. No gospel writer is more concerned than Luke with the mercy and compassion of Jesus. No gospel writer is more concerned with the role of the Spirit in the life of Jesus and the Christian disciple, with the importance of prayer, or with Jesus’ concern for women. While Jesus calls all humanity to repent, he is particularly demanding of those who would be his disciples. Of them he demands absolute and total detachment from family and material possessions. To all who respond in faith and repentance to the word Jesus preaches, he brings salvation and peace and life.

Viola I'm in love with love and I love couples who are in love. They are my bread and butter after all but that's not why I love them. I love it so much that I became a wedding planner. Watching couples young and old committing their lives to each other is something that's just so special. I never get tired of seeing couples stare lovingly into each other's eyes as they plan, prepare and execute their wedding ceremony pledging their undying love to one another for the rest of their lives. I haven't got there yet myself but watching other couples keeps my dream of finding Mr. Right alive. But life doesn't always see things the way we do. It sure didn't see it my way when he crossed my path. Rick I don't believe in love. If it really exists why are there so many broken relationships and people in the world? Not that I care… about the broken relationships I mean. After all, they are my bread and butter. People lay the foundation for the demise of their marriage before they're married with prenups designed to protect their assets. Marriage gives couples the right to punish each other when they don't want to be together anymore for whatever reason. So, when anyone tells you that it starts with a wedding, they're wrong. It starts with a lawyer. And if it ends… well, it ends with a lawyer too. Funny that. Often the people that I work for before their wedding, come knocking on my door a few years down the line. Repeat business. So, love is great and it is for me but just not for me if you get what I mean. When I met the wedding planner she was incensed at the thought that we might collaborate. Other planners have no issue with it. Why she should have, I have no idea. Normally I would just walk away but the universe seems to have other plans…

Arnold Bicklin
Arnold Bocklin (1827 - 1901) was a famous symbolist painter in Switzerland. During his youth, he traveled in Europe. Italian art had a profound influence on him. Roman classical art inspired many of his important works. The murals of Napoli and Pompeii had a profound influence on his technique and style. In 1866, he began to paint murals for the Basel Museum. After that, he entered a prolific period and his color skills improved greatly. In his early years, he studied landscape painting in Düsseldorfer, Germany, and got to know Feuerbach. After that, he traveled around, visiting the works of classical and Renaissance masters and browsing the scenery along the Mediterranean coast, which made his work style more meaningful and mysterious. From 1858 to 1861, he taught at the Weimar School of Fine Arts. In 1885, he moved to Hottingen, Switzerland, and finally settled in Fiesol, a small town near Florence, Italy. His most famous work was the five-piece series, Dead Island, which was painted under the influence of the atmosphere of the British Cemetery in Florence, where his youngest daughter was buried. These works were full of mystery and fantasy. They were filled with classical architecture, depicting scenes of death, mystery, and melancholy. They were his most controversial and wonderful works, in which symbolism was fully expressed. His work provided inspiration for the Russian composer Rachmaninov, who wrote the symphony "Dead Island." In 1904, the new art font created by Weathert,"Buckling," was favored by the "hippie movement" and was widely used in paintings in the 1970s. His artistic creation was deeply influenced by Nietzsche's philosophy of the world, which was full of negative thoughts. He often reconstructed ancient western myths. There seemed to be a terrible undercurrent flowing in his works, a mixture of mystery and nightmare. "The Island of Life" is also a wonderful novel. Everyone is welcome to read it!

Hey Arnold! Arnold Hurt Fanfiction: How can one write a good Arnold Hurt fanfiction?
Well, one important aspect is to create a believable source of hurt for Arnold. Since he's from a unique and loving family environment in the show, the hurt could come from outside, like when he's bullied at school for his good - natured ways. You need to set the scene well, describe the schoolyard, the mean kids' taunts, and Arnold's reactions. Another tip is to let Arnold grow from the pain. In the fanfiction, he could learn something about himself or others. This makes the story more than just about his hurt, but also about his development as a character. Also, use the right tone. A sad and reflective tone would be appropriate for a story about Arnold being hurt.
