Were people addicted to the Internet escaping reality?
Not necessarily. People who are addicted to the Internet may do so for many reasons, such as seeking entertainment, avoiding stress, obtaining knowledge, and so on. Some people might be exploring and imagining the virtual world, while others might be addicted to social networking platforms and online games. However, if a person is addicted to online activities and neglects important things in real life such as work, study, social interaction, family, etc., this behavior may be regarded as escaping from reality. In this case, they might feel the gap between the virtual world and the real world getting bigger and bigger, feeling lonely, helpless and lost. Therefore, people who are addicted to the Internet are not necessarily escaping from reality. They may be addicted to Internet activities for many reasons, but this behavior may have a negative impact on their physical and mental health.
