Chapter 8: encounter

[Sigh] "What do you want person who still hasn't formally introduced themselves?"

"How dare a commoner speak to me like that! Guards, kill this filth!"

'Well, at least I can try to level up my fighting skills.'

As the guards attacked, they were stunned as one of them was sent flying.

'Well, I'll be damned, that was so cool! Like he was so slow, and I just tapped him, and he flew back. This feels exhilarating for my first fight!'

"What are you idiots doing? I said to kill him, not joke around! Now, go!"

The guards attacked simultaneously, but I blocked their strikes with a round sweep of my spear, knocking them off balance.

'Ouch, that's gotta hurt a lot.'

I felt a shiver imagining the pain I had inflicted.

As I went for the final blow, I chose to knock the guards out. I wasn't a killer, and I'd only been here for a month.

After incapacitating the guards, I approached the 'young master.'

"How dare you kill people of the Peng clan? The clan will have your head for this, mongrel."

"Lucky for me, I didn't kill them."

"Huh?" he said dumbly.

"I said I didn't kill them. Do they look dead to you?"

He looked at me as if I'd done something out of this world.

"You! You! You still fought against them, so you will still be killed by me today, as I have a formation master with me! Master Baek, please help me!"

It was a ridiculous sight, a young man clinging to an old man.

"Well, of course, I'm going to fight back. Are you stupid? Are you telling me that if someone attacked you, you wouldn't fight back?"

I asked incredulously.

"Boy, enough with your nonsense. I, Baek, outer court disciple of the Heavenly Formation Sect, will kill you today for offending me!"

'When did I offend him?'

"Okay, I'm sick of this bullshit. Just come at me so we can get this over with."

"You dare look down on my great sect! Courting death!"

'You know what? I give up. I'm just gonna knock him out and leave.'

And that's exactly what I did.

"You! You... stay away from me. You can't kill me; else, my father will kill you."

As he rambled, I hit him over the head and knocked him out.

About to walk away, I decided to loot these people since they still had their lives without injury.

'Nice, a few gold coins and a space ring from the array person. It has some pills and books on basic arrays. This will be handy, as runes were underused in the original plot.'

After looting, I made my way out of town towards the capital.

(Time Skip)

A week into my journey, I faced an intriguing situation. Two high-ranking beasts fought for territory, oblivious to me.

[Rustle] I was on high alert as I heard a rustling sound. A beautiful snow-white snake with mesmerising ruby-red eyes stared at me pitifully.

'Ah, one of the babies of the snake beast that just died.'

As the beasts' fight ended, I decided to kill the goblin-looking one since it had killed the snake beast. I collected the loot and adopted the snake.

'Let me see, drop some blood on its head and send my soul energy to make a soul pact.'

"From now on, your name will be Lily."

She seemed to like it and wrapped around my neck as I continued to the capital.
