Her World Shatters (4)

Before Mingxi could run after Evelyn, Butler Chu reprimanded her.

"Miss Chan, your shoes," he said. Bowing in a quick apology, Mingxi changed her shoes. When she reached the top floor she heard Evelyn trashing the bedroom, throwing things onto the bed.

Evelyn was going through the closet trying to find the clothes she wanted to take with her. She specifically left out anything that Shawn had bought for her.

Butler Chu and one of the male servants came in , rolling in the suitcases that she had requested.

"Butler Chu," Evelyn said when she came out of the closet with an armful of things. She gave a polite nod to the male servant.

The servant was dressed in black slacks and a grey button down shirt as was customary for all the male servants. He bowed his head at her.

"Please have these clothes packed into the suitcases," Evelyn said. Before Butler Chu could ask any questions she held her hand up.

"Quickly Butler Chu, I'll explain everything later." Evelyn said when he didn't make a move. Mingxi stepped inside the bedroom.

'Was her boss going on vacation?' Mingxi thought.

"Mingxi, I need you to go into the closet and grab a large bag meant for jewelry," Evelyn said pointing to the closet filled with bags and shoes.

"On it," Mingxi said walking quickly to the closet and pulling out what was requested.

Evelyn was sorting through the jewelry of hers. She pulled out her heirlooms from her family and ones that were given to her by anyone besides her unfaithful husband. That left about 30 percent of her jewelry untouched.

When she finished sorting them Mingxi approached her.

"Boss?" She asked. Evelyn instructed her on what to pack before she grabbed her keys and went back to the closet to grab a briefcase.

She first went to Shawn's study while the servants were following up on her instructions. She didn't want anyone with her right now.

She used her key to open the door. This part of the house along with her study was strictly prohibited from the staff.

When she stepped inside she paused. His scent filled the space and she felt a sharp pain stab through her heart. She felt her eyes moisten for a second before she quickly closed her eyes tightly and shook her head.

'Not yet,' she thought. She couldn't allow herself to fall apart yet.

Evelyn stepped inside and took shallow breaths in the hopes that it would limit his scent. She walked to the safe and typed in the code. It popped open for her and she went and grabbed her marriage certificate and her identification papers. Inside she saw a yellow manila folder that she never recalled seeing in there.

Curious she pulled it out and found a copy of the divorce papers. She became instantly angry again but she went to the copier and made a copy of the document before she returned the original to the safe and closed it.

With nothing else in this study that was hers she went to the door and opened it before closing the door behind her.

She went to the room next to it and unlocked the door to her study. As two people with demanding careers she had made a big deal about having her own office in the house. It was her space to conduct business. Shawn had granted her wish, knowing it would make her happy.

The hardest thing for her to swallow was that he was once the loving and doting husband. He had done all the things a man in love would do for her. Evelyn couldn't understand. Where did it all go wrong?
