Chapter 13: Painful to Know

Dr. Parker meets me at the front door as soon as I arrive at the research clinic, which I will admit is a bit odd. I mean, what doctor meets their patient at the front door? I keep my cool as he leads me to the elevators.

“Ms. Romanis, I know that your father wanted us to run a sleep test for you. We have prepared a room for you. Please, follow me.”

I follow quietly behind the doctor, scanning each door and anything else that I can spot in hopes of finding answers.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, but I ignore it. I get the feeling that he might have a problem with me carrying a cell phone.

My suspicions are confirmed when he opens a nearby door and gestures for me to step inside. “Before we begin, I will need to take any electronic device you might be carrying.”

He adjusts his glasses across the bridge of his nose and holds his other palm up for me to hand him my cell.
