Chapter Ten: Cultivation X Superpowers
Outsiders.
Hudson did not know much about them other the fact that they were fearsome existences that even Origin Stage Cultivators could not casually confront without adequate prior preparations.
He had gained a lot of knowledge but he hadn't gotten everything.
Information beyond the first True Realm, the Mortal Stage, was merely a gloss over and not detailed.
'Perhaps as I grow stronger I will gkean more insights and "unseal" the details like is the case with the abilities that the bloodline had spoken of.' he thought.
'Whatever the case, I wonder what stage of cultivation that guard is?' he thought, sifting through the details of the 1st True Realm (Mortal Stage).
The Mortal Stage comprised of 6 Major Realms: Enlightenment Stage, Condensation Stage, Foundation Stage, Core Stage, King Stage, and Emperor Stage.
Then, each of these Major Realms were further divided into 5 Minor Stages: Early, Stable, True, Great, and Peak.
[What are you talking about, my weilder?] The bloodline interjected at this point with a genuine perplexed tone.
[There are no more Cultivators in this world. In fact, they are now regarded as the stuffs of fantasy and folklore. Most, if not almost all, the people of this era do not know that they had truly once existed before being wiped out for siding with the 7 Eldritch Sins of the Universe.]
"What? There was such a thing?" Hudson was shocked, wondering what could have wiped out people capable of creating natural disasters with a wave of their hands. "Who got them? The Outsiders?"
[Eh? Of course not. Those things mainly focus on trying to consume the universe and its inhabitants starting from its borders.] It answered. [What would such bugshots be doing on a backwater world like this one?]
'Then, who was it?'
[It's quite obvious really. Who else would be so ruthless as to ensure the slow and painful decline of an entire civilization than their fellow humans?]
"What? Like, cultivators came from another world and wiped out the ones from here?"
"Why?"
[I am truly sorry but, that's information you would have to be more powerful in order to access.]
He clicked his tongue, frustrated that the amount of information he could receive from his bloodline was really limited to such an extent.
It could not just tell him stuff.
How frustrating!
"Right... If there are really no cultivators in this world then, what the hell was with that prison guard?" He mused with a slight contemplative frown. "There is no way that a mop like him is naturally so mighty, right?"
[Huh?] Things were starting to get a bit too strange for the bloodline at this point. [Weilder, isn't it obvious? How can you not know of the emergence of Superpowers? Did you not inherit the previous owner of this body's memories? Or did he used to live under a rock in a quiet forest on an island that was not inhabited by anyone else?]
"Hudson blinked in confusion before asking; "Wait. I could do that? How?"
[This.... It is already too late now if you did not inherit even a price from the get go.] It explained. [Did you gain any memory of his? Just one, no later what it is about would be fine.]
Hudson did not have to for long before he shook his head and said; "No. I'm sure I did not."
[...Eh, that is unexpected.] It trailed off. [That is another roadblock to get past. You need basic information at least, to carve out a stable place for yourself in this world. Brute force and power is not everything, especially when it is still just the bottom of the barrel.]
There was a moment of silence before he asked; "So, about superpowers?"
[Mm? Oh yeah.] With its tone, he pictured the bloodline being a man or woman with glasses pulling up a chalkboard and write 'Superpowers 101'.
[After majority of this world's cultivators of the past were massacred, the world really did start to decline. Some would think that instead, the younger cultivators that were left behind would have so many cultivation resources left lying around that their rise was assured, but it is never so simple is it?]
[It turns out that Cultivators being so heavily guarded and greedy even against members of their own sect and clique is not such a good thing. The powerful ones plundered all the good stuff when they were around and kept them sealed in places and items that was selective on granting access.]
[Once they were dead, there was no one who could access and unlock key places like Sect treasuries and Blessed Grounds. The storage rings obviously lost their restrictions but would the invaders leave such good stuff on corpses. Would be a waste to them. Even if they did not have the leisure to go around the world robbing all the sects, they should at least reap those little benefits.]
[As a result of this - greed of the cultivators of this world - not many good stuff were left accessible to the weak ones they left behind. And since that was the case, the weak ones could not reach as high as their predecessors.]
[Certain artifacts or resources that could only be produced or acquired by more powerful cultivators never fell into their hands to help them reach their potentials.]
[In the end, the cultivation beasts were finally able to stand up to humans, carving out places for themselves in the world while human cultivators started to die off - they reached the natural end of their lifespans since they could not breakthrough high realms like their predecessors to live long enough to train either themselves or even more Cultivators.]
"..." Hudson listened intently to the tale, not saying a word.
[It seemed that humans of this world would end up as slaves and stepping stones for the beasts. It was a perilous phase that ended up bringing despair upon the world.]
[Decades and centuries past, and the cultivators completely died out - well, barely a handful were left but they were old and had stayed away from mortals long enough for cultivators to now be considered as myths. Human civilization progressed and started to urbanize while the monsters were nowhere to be seen. It was a strange situation for those old folks, the last Cultivators, and they even tried searching for them personally to attempt to broker a peace treaty but came up empty handed.]
[In the end these cultivators turned up empty handed. It was like the beasts ad vanished off the face of the world. They could only sigh and count their remaining days.]
[Alas... Once the last powerhouse of the last Sect of this world drew their last breathe, the monsters took it as a queue to rise from the depths of their hiding places and bare their fangs.]
Hudson sucked in cold air at the thought of such a scenario. He wanted to ask "What? So, what happened next? How did humans survive?" But there was no need seeing as the bloodline would naturally continue.
[As they say, in times of crisis, a mother can lift a truck to save her child.]
[Witnessing the destruction and death around them, humans' desire for survival and vengeance was stoked and something lying dormant within them was activated.]
[Their Profound Veins, that they were meant to use to cultivate but had been left unused as there were no resources for the cultivators to give them, woke forcefully woke up and mutated to give them various abilities.]
[Those that possessed talent to be cultivators of the flame would awaken fire-based abilities. Those suited for alchemy would awaken healing abilities. And more. In some cases, it would just be mundane stuff like was the case with this woman that had a huge boost to her mind, allowing her to process things faster.]
[Even now, her mind is able to process your movements - albeit barely. For her, you must be blurry.]
"Wait, she had such an ability?'
"And what? She's awake?"
