He is so sure of it. so sure until he meets her brother, Lowell. The alpha of his pack. The man that everyone is afraid of. The man that looks at him like he is some kind of disease. Thoughts about the right one

Colin

"Are we there yet?'' Tala asks for like the tenth time in less than an hour. She has been car sick for half of this journey and suddenly all I have are regrets. I insisted on going in their car and now her puking all over the car is cramping up my style.

"Not yet baby," Uncle Darrien says soothingly.

His voice is soft.

There is nothing soft about the man, except for when it involves Uncle Jabi and his daughter. Right now, he has been looking at us through the rearview mirror, the worry evident in his eyes "Drink more water baby,'' he urges.

I turn to her and her face is pale "We should just take a rest stop. You know for a couple of hours. She would feel better than,'' I suggest.

There is a bag on the floor and the stench is nauseating. it doesn't help that my sense of smell is extra. One of my special abilities.

"We are already running late, I don't want Beau and the rest to worry,'' Uncle D, says but his actions say otherwise. He has slowed down on his driving and he keeps checking on us.

"Fuck, I feel so sick,'' she cries as she clutches her stomach.

I reach for her and brush a strand of hair out of her face. she is sweating and shaking. The car comes to a stop and I look outside for the first time, we are in the parking lot of a motel. "Okay, we will rest tonight and make sure you feel better and then leave first thing in the morning,'' Uncle D, states finally.

"Shit, I need to get out of this car," she opens the door and I help her out. The sky is still bright but it is already seven in the evening. the weather is cool and the breeze hits me as we get out of the car.

"Let the air hit you, I'll go get the keys to the room,'' Uncle D tells us. I hold my best friend as they both walk away from us.

"You are such a drama queen,'' I point out.

She rolls her eyes "I fucking hate cars,'' she exclaims.

"We are going to miss the welcoming ceremony,'' I tell her.

"Yeah, how will you meet all those people if you miss the welcoming ceremony?" she rolls her eyes. I am being selfish, I know that but I am also on a mission.

My phone rings and I see Colm's face light up my screen. Tala looks at me with a questioned expression "It's Colm,' i answer the phone by placing it in my ear "What?''

"Where are you, dad said you were coming tomorrow.''

"Yeah, Tala got car sick, so we're just going to call it a night."

"Oh.''

"How's the ceremony going?'' I ask him.

"There are so many people here. guess which pack showed up?" there is excitement in his tone, i already want to know what he is talking about. this is supposed to be my chance to mingle and meet people and I am already missing all the fun.

Fuck.

"The shadow pack,'' I can tell he is smiling.

"And? Give me more information.''

He laughs. Colm knows how important this retreat is for me and he wants to milk it in that I am not there right now. "Why did you tag along with Uncle D and J, you know how problematic they can be."

he is talking about the fact that Uncle Darrien doesn't stick to the norm and how he likes drama. Uncle D is my favorite family member outside my parents. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I get along with his daughter.

'Fuck you dude, are there people our age? Do you think there is potential?''

He knows what I am talking about. He might not be interested in finding a mate but he knows that I am and he would do anything to help me.

"Yeah, Ashina is literally the only one that is standing out right now. I can't actually believe that they came for this meeting. They never come for these things."

The shadow pack is like the last outcast pack in the werewolf world. Thanks to my dad, we have made mixing amongst ourselves a norm. All the packs come together every six months. it is usually done in different communities and this time it is being held in the green spring community. There has been a friendly relationship between all the packs but the shadow pack didn't want to conform to that. Over the years, they stayed on their own. Now they are there, in the retreat, and all kinds of excitement kick in.

That just means there will be more people, which just means that my chances just got higher. "She is so beautiful,'' Colm breathes into my ear.

I know who he is talking about.

Ashina Hemming.

The sister of the leader of the pack, the alpha. Lowell Hemming. Lowell Hemming is a beast. Everyone is afraid of him, and he is there right now.

Ashina is the opposite of her brother.

A sight to beware of. I am already getting the chills thinking about seeing her. I have only heard about her beauty. I have never seen her before. Tala stands upright suddenly and the color is back on her face. She leans close to me as she tries to listen in on my conversation with my brother.

"I gotta go, Papa is calling me,'' Colm ends the call before I even put a word in. I put my phone back in my pocket.

"Ashina is there?'' her eyes open wide when I tell her. I nod because she is already excited for me "Hoy shit. we should be there right now.''

I glare at her "It's your fault that we are here.''

She laughs and I know that she is feeling better. Uncle Jabi comes out and waves at us and we jog over to him.

"How are you feeling baby?'' he asks Tala, reaching out and checking her temperature. Tala smiles at him and he returns the smile, glad that she is okay.

"You guys good to share a room?'' they ask even though they know that we wouldn't mind that. Tala is the closest to me. She is almost like a sister to me. Growing up, we formed a bond that can never be broken. I wouldn't trade her for anything in this world.

We get to the tiny room in the motel but I smile, glad that there are two beds. Sharing a bed with Tala is one thing that I don't ever want to do. She tosses and turns at night and she is what I will call a kicker. I don't want to have to go through a sleepless night because of her.

Once we are alone. She jumps on the bed and pulls out her laptop from her bag. I walk over to her bed and sit down next to her as I watch her.

"We need to do some research,'' she types into the keyboard and I watch her as she opens the Instagram site on safari. "So Ashina is at this thing, we need to know who else is present." I slide closer to her as she opens Ashina's page and luckily, it is not private. Her face is the first thing I can focus on. She is so beautiful that my heart is aching. I might be aiming too high but here I am, hoping that she is my mate.

Is it silly of me to want the best of the best? Maybe this is me being greedy but I don't even want to look anymore. I just want it to be her.

"Oh my God, her brother is a fucking hunk,'' Tala exclaims and I realize that I had zoned out and she was on his profile. I look at Lowell and something tugs inside me. It is a different feeling from when I saw Ashina. They look like complete opposites. Ashina emulates light and he is all darkness. His eyes are the only thing bright about him. Sky blue, so bright that I mistake it for the sky. His hair is jet black; he is all muscle and man.

Lowell is someone that I don't even want to meet because I doubt, we will have anything in common. He is older, stronger and someone that my father Beau would hate.

Ash is good for me.

She is perfect.
