Without giving a man a bow or anything that could show that he respected the man, August walked over and took a seat opposite the king, looking him right in the eyes.
After several minutes of staring, King cleared his throat saying " Welcome witcher"
August nodded in response.
"You are searching for more people for the rally on the giant?" inquired August
King released a small chuckle. "Don't rush the topic. I have something else that I want to talk about first"
King explained, "It is indeed a job for the rally on a giant in the Toina Valley. But let's slow down for a second. I will introduce first, I'm King of the Kovir and Povis Estril Thyssen"
August shortly replied "August"
"Good to know you August, I wanted a witcher, not for the monster extermination itself, but something else…" explained Estril
August raised his eyebrows, asking, "What do you mean?"
With an awkward smile, Estril replied, "I want you to keep my son safe. He wished to take part in the rally on his behalf. I can't stop him from doing so, since it will be very beneficial for his reputation. But I also don't want to see my son die. You see, he is the only son I have and I can never have more children, so he is the only thing that will be left after me." finished Estril with some sorrow towards the end.
August didn't question the man, since he could already tell that there is an obvious reason for that kind of feeling.
"What is the pay? But I want to take part in both, hunt and protection of your son" inquired August.
"I will be sure not to disappoint you. Upon successful rally and my son returning safe, your rewards will be 1000 Bizant. But don't be scared. I hired another person who will help you. She is highly skilled. I can vouch for her strength." Said the king in a proud voice.
He gestured to the guards that were near the doors. As soon as he did, the guards opened the door, revealing a woman.
She wore a long beautiful green dress, and every step she made was elegant like she was a part of the king's family. August had seen a lot of women during his life, but her face looked perfect compared to everyone else.
Her nose, her lips, and her skin were perfect. Her blue sky eyes looked stern and soft at the same time. Long golden hair flow down to her waist like a calm waterfall. But there was one problem: her ears, they were elven ears. But with a charm that she emitted, it brought distrust. August could immediately sense that she was not just an elf, but a sorcerer.
King stood and with a graceful gesture presented a woman "Please welcome the sorcerer from the brotherhood, most beautiful and one of the most skilful Francesca Findabair. She will be the one to assist you during this mission."
August looked at the king in a stupor. One thing he didn't expect was getting a sorcerer to assist him in the mission. He would rather kill them all than let them walk close to him.
But the job was just too good and August wanted to see what giants are like in the real life. And not to miss such an excellent job opportunity that is being offered to him. 1000 Bizanrts is nothing like small money. It is 4000 Redanian Crowns or 24000 Temerian Orens; it is what a regular Baron earns in his 10 years of life.
But at the same time the prize spoke about the dangers, it looked like King knew something that bothered him a lot. And that made him hire a mage and a witcher just to protect his son from the dangers, not for an actual rally. That means there is an actual danger that is directed at his son.
Francesca Findabair came close to August with a smile on her face. She runs her finger across his armour with a charming smile. A few seconds of staring into each other eyes was enough for her. She muttered, "You are interesting" and left saying nothing else.
August stayed silent, observing her. He had mixed emotions about her. She was exceptionally beautiful, but at the same time, he felt like she was a snake that will end up biting him in the ass at the most unexpected moment.
When she was gone, August approached King and had a small talk with him, discussing some things that he required during his travels. August requested a lot of materials for potions and a new set of armour. He also asked for one particular thing that King deemed unnecessary but still allowed August to have this before the start of the rally.
When they were about to finish, Estril inquire "Do you want to meet with my son now? I'm sure it will be beneficial for both of you in the future since the rally won't be a quick job"
"Yes" replied August.
Estril ordered one of the royal guards that looked very different from those that were outside the city. They were much more trained in everything that is required of soldiers. People that serve as royal guards are usually those that were the best in fighting, could handle a lot of pressure and sustain elegant posture and obey commands without questions.
Those guards were wearing full metal armour that left almost no space for the opponent to hit them. They were like a real battle machine since it is very hard to kill anyone wearing full metal armour unless you are a mage. No arrows or swords could create any impact on them.
August followed the guard until they arrived outside in the castle yard, where he saw a relatively young man training with some soldiers, fighting them with a sword.
He wore a blue shirt made of fine silk and boots fully made out of polished high-quality leather.
The Royal guard approached the young prince kneeling on one knee, placing one of his hands on his chest and looking at the ground. "It's good to see you, Royal Prince. I brought a guest that the king hired to be your caretaker during the rally"
Prince looked at the guard before asking him to stand up. "Please stand up"
Then he looked towards August. He didn't even try to kneel in the prince's presence. However, that didn't affect the prince at all.
Prince knew who was standing in front of him almost immediately. Witchers were known almost everywhere since they had a special appearance compared to other individuals.
Prince, however, was quite brave and approached August with no fear, either on his face or in his eyes, stretching out his hand for a handshake.
"I heard all Witchers are real masters of the sword. In my life, I had never witnessed them fighting, but I heard plenty of stories. Let me tell you, I will not be protected by someone that I do not know how skilful and proficient they are. So prepare your sword Witcher and let's see who is better!" said Prince in high tones with some happiness and a bit of arrogance.
