To solve the problem he was facing, August decided to look into the books, which had a lot of different information about curses. He didn't want to be under anyone's influence, and that was his main concern at the moment.
But at the same time, he must remain as casual as ever so that Vilgefortz does not notice his hostile behaviour. To this end, day after day, August attended classes, behaving as usual.
However, not everything went the way he wanted. Once when he was training with Vilgefortz.
Today's training did not promise any troubles, the usual training, as always. Today, Vilgefortz decided to once again try to teach August elemental magic at the request of August himself. This sphere of magic was giving him especially hard.
For many years he tried, but his efforts were insufficient for use in combat conditions. It would take August decades to make even the slightest progress in this area, but he wanted to try again and see if he could get a little success.
When they entered the field where there was enough space, Vilgefortz, as always, began to show off. He liked to feel better than others, even when he played his part. One thing always leaked out - arrogance. He was always arrogant about his talents in magic, because of which he could not hide how good he was in many areas of magic.
"Watch carefully, I'll show you how to use fire magic," said Vilgefortz with a proud smirk sticking to his face
He continued to form fire in his palm, but then something happened. Looking at the fire raging in the hand of Vilgefortz, August received a vision in which fragments of something appeared, with which the fate of Vilgefortz was connected.
[In the vision]
August stood in the dark forest and witnessed events of the future.
In the dark forest of Erlenwald, in the year 1236, a lonely man rode a horse, he was seemingly lost. He wore rich attire and rode a beautiful black horse. His face was nothing special, but at the same time, there were no scars or cuts, tidy beard and hair that showed he cared for his appearance greatly. A bow was hanging on his back and a sword on his belt.
He was wandering around the pathless tracks, suddenly when he was passing a path close to the ravine, his horse could not hold a balance and ended up falling right inside the ravine. Because of the impact, he received during the fall, his legs were sprained, to add, his horse fell on top of his legs, fully leaving him immobile, unable to move at all. Like that, he stuck on the bottom of the gully, calling for help, hoping for the best.
The only answers he received were those of the predators, but luckily for him, some kind of human-like creature came to his rescue.
The man shouted when he saw a figure, "Please, help me. I will do anything you ask for! "
The man that looked unlike others came to his rescue. Nothing showed disturbing could be seen in this man until you witness his face. His face was covered in an ugly appearance. The face of the hedgehog, instead of the hair, the man had a lot of spikes on his head that made it hard to perceive him as a man.
At first, it scared the man that fell into a gully, but he wished to be saved rather than rotting somewhere in the depths of the forest.
The creature came closer to the man and asked, "Do you need help?"
"Yes, I do, please," with a slight hesitation answered the injured man.
The man with a face of an animal said "You don't need to be scared of me. My name is Duny. Nice to meet you!"
The man took a handshake of a stranger that had a name Duny replying, "It's good to meet someone that is not up to eating me alive. I'm Roegner of Ebbing. It's pleasure of mine meeting you in such a situation"
Duny replied with a smile that looked quite creepy on his face, "No worries, shall I get you out of this situation"
Duny helped the man with getting away from the situation he was facing and while doing so, Roegner inquired, "What happened to you?"
Duny's face twisted as anger rose and he replied, "I got in the argument with a mage and end up being this monster. Something about me wasn't liked by the mage and he decided to curse me with a terrible appearance that nobody could stand, nobody could love…."
The atmosphere turned gloomy as Roegner listened to Duny's story. It was sad a sad story. Mages have a lot of powers that could ruin one life, without much of a problem and Dany was just a victim of one of those cases.
Duny moved off the topic of his curse and inquired, "How about you? How did you end up here?"
Roegner let out a small, dry chuckle, replying, "I was on the hunt, but I end up losing my path and lost my way. I was wandering around the forest for a while until I end up falling from the ravine."
Taking a slight pause and showing a sad face, he continued, "I was already prepared to die in this forest full of hungry wildlife, but you saved my life. For that, I can't thank you enough"
Duny helped the man to walk near the path that could lead him out of the forest when Roegner said, "I can't offer you enough for saving my life. You can ask for whatever you want. You saved my life, and I have to grant you something that you wish"
Duny threw for a while when something came up on top of his mind. It was almost like this event was destined to happen. Without a single bit of hesitation, Duny said, "I invoke the Law of Surprise. I shall receive whatever you find at home without knowing or expecting it. "
[End of Vision]
As soon as Vilgefortz saw August in the state when his eyes turned glassy like they are somewhere else, and to whatever Vilgefortz tried to ask, August would remain silent, without responding a single word.
While August was coming back to his senses, Vilgefortz once again cast a spell that would force August to say whatever he saw.
Vilgefortz said, "What did you see?"
Without even realizing August's mouth spoke on its own "Your goal lies in the hands of the man that wears the face of a hedgehog"
Just then, August covered his mouth with his hands and forced himself to say nothing else.
August looked at the smile that Vilgefortz had on his face and wanted to kill the man right here and now. But it would be too dangerous doing so, August made his way away from Vilgefortz into Nenneke room. He wanted to ask for something that she could help him with solving the problem on these charms.
It seemed like the information that August had gathered, is not sufficient enough to figure everything out, so Vilgefortzwill is unlikely to kill August at the moment.
Just when August was about to walk away from the sight of Vilgefortz, he heard him whisper in a cheerful mood.
"I need to leave, I don't know when I will come back but don't forget to write to me, or you can use one thing you learned I'm sure Telepathy is a good skill for you" with a half-mocking half sincere voice said Vilgefortz
When August turned around to give the man the last glance, he was not there anymore.
