Chapter 19 Dungeon Exploration#2

30th, Ashadha, 1965

Ortson is standing in front of the 2nd dungeon on the 1st floor. He along with 9 other explorers is here to raid it.

"Ortson I leave my back to you."

"Max I will try to stand on your expectation."

Their instructor Adrian is debriefing them on the dungeon.

"This dungeon is called Goblin Ruin, It has the capacity of 10 people, and its boss monster is a goblin shaman, you will find him at the village church. Goblin shamans are known for their debuffing, illusions, and insect-controlling spells. Physically they are weak so even an intermediate apprentice-level warrior can defeat it. So, without further ado let's enter the dungeon. "

The raiding party enters the swirling portal which transfers them to the front of a village ruin.

After entering the dungeon everyone was able to see the dilapidated outer wall of the village.

"When you will fight or raid a settlement, there are two ways it can be done. Number one, frontal breakthrough, can only be done when you have superior numbers and solid defense, otherwise, you will be turned into a pin-cushion with arrows shot by goblin archers. Number two is guerilla warfare, in this, you need only a small number to fight a large number of troops, here we create distraction through explosions and smoke and hunt them from afar by staying under cover and by constantly moving from one place to another when compromised. Then any questions?

Ortson was surprised when he heard the word guerilla warfare from the mouth of instructor, Adrian.

'On earth, they were mainly used inside urban areas, and those who struck first have the advantage over their opponents due to confusion.'

"If not I will continue, we will no enter through the front gate, we will enter by crossing over the wall from the side of the village, archers and mages will be in charge of taking down the goblin archers from the watchtowers and creating distraction. And act according to the situation don't wait for my instruction every time. Then let's proceed explorers."

All 10 explorers entered the village ruin by climbing across the wall and hiding inside the house which is still intact.

After entering the house Ortson started taking notice of his surrounding and started to deduce what happened here like a detective or Archeologist.

'There is dried blood on the walls which have turned black, furniture has rotted, the window hinges are coming off, and broken utensils are on the floor, was there a struggle here?'

"What are you doing Max?"

Ortson observes Max tying stones at the end of short ropes.

"I am making Bolas, I used to hunt rabbits with them."

"Goblins have an acute sense of smell, So, the longer we hide, the more chances of us getting discovered, that's why we need to act fast and when you are tired take cover in village buildings. Mages create a distraction and archers shoot the goblins on top of the watchtower. Ok, on the count of 3. 1, 2, & 3."

On a count of 3 mages opened the window and started throwing projectile magic at the goblins and its surrounding.

"Fireball"

"Vent blast"

Due to mages throwing fireballs and vent blasts, many buildings caught on fire and it started spreading around.

Instructor Adrian started to give commands to fall back.

"Mages take cover."

"Archers shoot."

Two archer of the raid team takes their position near the window to fire their arrows.

Ortson watches, Max started firing arrows from his crossbow.

Due to their strategy, the goblin archers on the top of two watchtowers were shot down.

Due to enough time passing the goblin soldiers who gathered their bearing noticed the group and started running toward them with their weapons in hand.

As situations were changing during combat, Instructor Adrian started giving orders.

"Warriors to the front and mages give cover fire."

Instructor Adrian runs forward and started swinging his great sword at the goblins to show examples to others.

Everyone capable of close combat runs through the door to follow his example.

Max who used up his all arrows, also follows the group and throws Bolas at the coming goblins.

And goblins who were stuck by the throwing weapon fell down and were trampled by the goblins behind him, one even had its skull burst open due to impact from the stone.

Ortson also without wasting time started firing null bullets at the goblins like a gun.

"Null Bullet."

When someone got tired of fighting they would fall back inside the house to catch their breath.

And Instructor Adrian will cover for them with his superior stamina. With his every swing wind would make noise.

Ortson notices a red glow around the great sword swung by Instructor Adrian.

Max who got tired due to fighting also enters the house, sits beside Ortson, and started a conversation with him.

"I also want to use Aura like that."

Ortson was also fascinated by Aura which is the physical manifestation of mana used by warriors.

"Outside the tower, I was talentless, because of how much I trained, I was not able to cross the threshold of intermediate warrior, but here inside the tower I can do it."

Ortson being a foreigner in this world was not able to relate to Max, but he understood that life inside may be a new leash in life for many people.

Little by little all the goblins were defeated by the raiding party. One can see goblin corps littered on the ground.

Every explorer who was fighting in close combat had cut over their body.

Seeing everyone's condition, Instructor Adrian started giving orders.

"We will take rest for few moments, and pass this hemostatic powder and goblin antidote among yourselves and patch up yourselves. After our rest, we will attack the village church."

The atmosphere become solemn due to the intense struggle the party had a few moments ago, and everyone started to mend their injuries. A cool breeze began to blow through the village ruin as if it was comforting the party of explorers of a job well done.
