The Runaway Huntress

*WPC #139 FL-modern werewolf Silver Tier ************** "Reject me, Ezekiel." How she wanted to repeat saying his name. It could be her favorite word from now on. "So that your throne won't be compromised by having a mate like me." If it were in any other circumstances, Ezekiel could have closed his eyes to savor her voice upon calling his name. But he was starting to feel the rising rage in him. His grip on her throat slightly tightened. If she were any other wolf or someone else less than him, they would already cower by just meeting his gaze. "Do you..." He swallowed hard in contained anger. "Realise..." He inhaled a huge amount of air. "The extent..." A second before he finished the last words deliberately. "Of what you were asking?" He retorted, emphasizing each word to make her understand what she wanted him to do. Yes. Her mind paused. Not really. A dreaded thought shook her courage. Her gaze at him faltered. "You were after my people's lives. Do you think I would just let you roam around freely and take them?" "You would kill me if only I wasn't your mate, right?" She believes that's the only reason that she's still alive by his hands until now. Asking that question made her swallow hard the lump in her throat, as the hurt started to rise again. "You said so before." She added. ******************** Too much for being a werewolf. A werewolf that can never shift. But that's the last of her concerns. CHAPTER 7

Aiming for the next town where Melisca's homeland was. She had dragged too long for her mission, and all had just gotten more complicated. Yes, she had the eternity, but she doesn't want the killers to have forgotten what they've done.

Melisca's coming home. Coming home for her parents and the mission.

The sharp mid-morning sun, getting through the leather jacket to her skin, and sweat sticking to her body. She's up for a lunch stop to feed herself and have some refreshments. Traveling from town to town in nearly three days at sun time, her butt sores from all those riding hours, as is her lower back.

This was her last stop, before eventually reaching the town in two hours at most. She parked in front of a diner in the middle of a desert and a gasoline station across it. A few dusted cars and jeepneys lined up in the parking area.It seemss like this place is a local stop for travelers.

Looking inside from where she stands, parking her big bike, there seems to be a lot of customers inside. Anyway, she took off her helmet and carried it with her. The backpack, of course, would come along. Pulling out her motor keys before she forgot and inserted them in her pockets.

People inside glanced at her from the transparent window, dusting herself off from all the desert particles and sand she had gone through during the ride. Her long braid had frizzed under the glaring heat. She sighed. Nothing much she could do.

Moving along to the diner, as she opened the door, the bell chimed, and she halted on the spot. Not because of the twinkling sound, but for the wolves' presence that welcomed her. Yet the fresh scent of cinnamon rolls, waffles, home fries, egg benedict, and cheeseburgers had gotten the best of her.

She had unknowingly closed her eyes to savor the aroma in the air, stomach growling. The wolves forgotten. Eat now, worry later. They don't know she's a wolf anyway. She heard some chuckle, then she opened her eyes, guilty of being an idiot at the entrance. She bit her lower lip as she restrained from grinning at her own foolishness.

Sensing that a certain group of males was eyeing her from the far corner, she didn't throw them a single glance. The six men, each with a proper build and visible muscles to their biceps and stomach pecks. Pretty sure they were the predators in the area, and it appeared that all the wolves she had seen before were impressively fit.

Nonsensical thought aside, it didn't take her long to find a vacant seat, for there was already an empty table right beside the entrance. She immediately settled herself and put down her helmet on the hardwood and pushed it to the corner. Unpacking her bag and placing it close to her right side. Everything she had was in there. Money, clothes, basic necessities, and her family's photo album.

The area was just perfect for her in case any problem arose. The door was just to her left.

Snatching the menu in its stand in the middle of the table, she quickly scanned it. Just looking at the yummy picture made her mouth water. The money won't matter when she's famished.

She hadn't had breakfast before hitting the road because the restaurant food at the motel where she stayed last night tasted horrible. So then, even though she knows that breakfast is the most important meal, she skipped it, rather than wasting her money on inedible nutrition.

She was about to call for the waitress, but seeing her talking to the men at the corner, she paused then. However, she met her eyes and looks like the server knew that Melisca's waiting for her to take the order. But she also noticed that the guy she was talking to was staring at her.

Melisca turned her head and pretended she was looking out the window when there was only endless sand and dust everywhere. Heightening her sense of hearing, she listened to what he was saying. But before reaching his voice, she has to shove aside other conversations around.

The hearing sense is what really irritates her the most in her abilities. It usually gives her a headache when she cannot control the waves of voices that her ears pick up. Though it has helped her all the time and even laughs when she hears a naughty conversation, still, she's having a hard time focusing on it.

"Give the lady your best blueberry milkshake, and also this note. Serve it to her in ice-cold. It can satisfy her thirst." His baritone voice clearly reached her ears.

Oh, wolf boy is hitting on me. At least it can save me some money. She thought. Also, she can have information from them. Maybe they can lead her to the monsters she's searching for. Hmm. Let's see where this leads.

Propping herself forward, both her hands on the table, and resting her chin on her knuckles. The waitress finally walks up to her.

Melisca took off her mask then and laid it atop the helmet.

"Hello! I'm Lorna. What can I serve you, please?" The server plastered on her welcoming smile and the high-pitched voice irritated her ear a bit that she flinched from it. The girl looked younger than her, like she was just about to be twenty. The short skirt is just two inches above the knee, and her apron matches in fabric. Her nameplate engraved her name.

Then Melisca's eyes caught something in the girl's forearm. A sort of tattoo, just a little can be seen because her shirt sleeve had hidden it. Her forehead knotted, and the glimpse of the marking somehow made her think of where she might have noticed it before. After a few moments, she shook her head, wiping out the unnecessary impression. Though, she wondered, at such a young age, Lorna could already handle getting a tattoo. It envies her for she really likes to get one, but the ink won't stay long in her skin. Her blood would just erase the markings.

She took up the menu again and opened it. "One homemade fries, cheeseburger, egg benedict, waffle, brownies, cinnamon roll and.." Turning to the next page. "That's all." Then she looks up to Lorna as she puts the folder back on its stand.

The girl stared at her with bulging eyes and grinned. "Really? That's all?" A pen and an order slip tab on hands.

"Actually, wait." Snatching the menu again and scanned to other pages she had not looked at before. "Kindly add a single Hash brown, Banana pancake, Pork patty sandwich, and an apple pie. That's final." Looking up at the girl, she might pick up the waitress' jaw on the floor as well.

Not minding the server's reaction. She leaned back to her seat. "Please serve what you've finished first, I'm famished. It isn't that obvious, right?" Rubbing her tummy and raised an eyebrow at Lorna.

As if the girl had just woken up from her thoughts. She giggled, "Yeah, right, of course not. It's not that obvious." That high-pitched tone again. "No drinks?"

"That's final." Melisca repeated.

"Okay. Right away then." The girl was finally gone from her sight.

She heard the guy chuckle, clearly, it was because of her. What can she do? She's dying of hunger.

A couple of minutes passed, and the same girl returned to serve her orders. Not yet completed it, but she started right away. The blueberry milkshake the guy ordered for her is there with a note stashed in a tissue. She ignored it for now and focused on her food.

Without taking some moment to digest her food, she quickly finished one after another. She doesn't care if it makes her bloated. At least she can kick off again after having her stomach full and satisfied. It can also lighten up her mood.

The last set of food coming right up, she had slowed down then. At last, her hunger had gone and she felt quite full.

"Oh, heaven." She exhaled and patted her tummy as she licked the side of her lips. Leaning to her back and reached for the milkshake, sipping it as she read the note.

-This could quench your thirst. It's on me.-

Feigning to look around for whose the letter was from, her eyes landed on the guy who waved his hand to get her attention. He gave off an alluring smile and even showed his dimple.

She smiled back, going along with the game.

Then he stood up and heard his buddies cheer for him.

He had an easy stride till he stopped by on her table. "May I?" Asking her permission to join.

"Sure."

He took the seat in front of her. "Hello lady, I'm Jethro, can I know what your name is?"

She can feel that he's nervous. Maybe he's not used to this. Also, his words were very old-school. Did his friends just send him to battle without teaching him how to load the gun first? She sighed in her inner thoughts.

"Liz. I'm Liz." Giving him a small smile as she looks at him through her lashes. This is so easy.

"So, Liz, the new wolf in town." He stated with a knowing smirk.

Or so she thought.
