Whispers of Heartache

Abigail's POV

I couldn't believe my eyes. She was there, right in front of me. She looked a bit troubled but nothing more.

I thought I would never see her again. i thought once again i`ll be haunted with the care i show to the people around me. i am scared that she would also disappear and leave me behind.

Lana, i shouted subconsciously. Although I was happy, I was showing mixed emotions. The thought of losing Lana just as I lost my parents broke me into tiny pieces. She has just been gone for few days but i, i dont know why it affects me this much...

Suddenly, I started to feel dizzy and nauseated. The flashbulb of that day, the day my parents lost their lives, started appearing in my head. The blood and the screams. I couldn`t help but shed tears while I went through them again, and before my eyes it all got black.

Invading my nostrils, I awoke to the pungent smell of hospital disinfect. The room was silent except for the heavy breathing and the beep beep sound you often hear in hospitals that indicates you are alive. i slowly opened my eyes, squinting in attempt to sharpen the blurred images before me. I could make out the shapes of the medical equipment surrounding my bed and the nurse's station on the other side of the room. I suddenly realised I was in a hospital. i woke up trying to figure out what was happening, but thankfully Lana came in. i had so many questions for her, i was glad she was here.

"Lana why am i here, what happened? Where were you? I looked for you everywhere. Are you okay? What happened to you? Did someone hurt you? Is it your father? Did he find you?" i asked so many questions because I was so confused. I wanted answers to each and every question I asked.

Lana just feigned ignorance to my questions.

"Have some rest, I'll get you some food. I'll wake you up when I get back." She said as she tucked me into bed. She couldn't bear to see Abigail eyes.

she didn't know where to start. she blamed herself for not thinking of her while she was with Max. she didn't know this all would give so much trouble to her. she felt guilty.

i couldn't understand why she chose to feigned ignorance to my questions but i stayed quite. i looked her but i could clearly see she was ignoring me. "what happened to her?" i couldn't help ask myself. i was worried. "Abigail it's fine, look she's here with you now even healthier than you." i said to myself as i watch her leave my room.

i know my heart is weak but i would love to share it with her. I have grown so fond of her that i get worried easily. "Abigail get some rest so that you have energy to talk to her" i said to myself i as i close my eyes.

Lana`s Pov

The moment i laid my eyes on her. i remembered that i forgot about her. am i a bad friend? Max occupied my mind like he was here all along. i turned to face her the one who shouted my name. "|i want to go and hug her." i said to myself as i walked to her direction.

Abigael i shouted as i see her fall on ground. i quickly went to her and tried to wake her but she wasn't responding. i was helpless i didnt know what happened. everything just happened so fast. i tried calling for help but to my suprise here he was. Max.

"what happened?" he asked.

i was nervous i couldn't talk properly this is not what my brain was expecting.

"she suddenly fainted, i dont know what's wrong with her. Max what can i do? please help her." i responded in a quavering tone.

Max looked at me and told me to call 911. "i think she's having a cardiac arrest." He said while raising Abigael`s legs. she wasn't wearing anything tight so he just laid her down looking up while letting her have fresh air and monitor her.

After a few minutes the ambulance arrived and took them to a hospital. the doctor took her to the emergency room and tried to revive her heart beat.

My depth of despair left me lost. i blamed myself for not being there with her, for not remembering her for the time i spent with Max. She was here at first but when I was with Max it felt like he was here too. i blamed myself for every breath i took without thinking about her. How worried she would have been. Here I am standing still i can't even move my fingers not even a nail.

"It's going to be alright." He said while hugging me.

i stood still without moving. I felt like I needed it. I let out a deep sigh and finally hugged him back. I felt safe and secure in his embrace. His words of comfort brought me a sense of peace.

[half an hour later ]

After a long wait, the door I was hoping for has finally been opened. All I hoped for at this point was to hear good news. I won't be able to forgive myself if something bad happens to her. i took a deep breath and headed to the doctor.

"Are you Abigail`s relatives?" He asked.

"Yes, doctor, can you tell me what's wrong with her? What happened?" I asked.

"Hello, I am doctor Payne. Abigail`s doctor. It turned out that she had an anxiety heart attack and a cardiac arrest. However, gratefully, the first hand aid she received turned out to be at the right time. We have done everything so hopefully she will open her eyes and wake up. We are doing all we can to ensure she regains consciousness soon." He added.

i can finally breathe. Hearing she will be okay relieved the heaviness in my heart. We thanked the doctor and decided to check on her.

The room where Abi is currently being treated is quiet and sterile. The walls are painted white, and there are fluorescent lights overhead that give off a harsh, clinical light. The bed where she lies is surrounded by machines that beep and hum rhythmically. The air is heavy with the smell of antiseptic. Despite the sterile surroundings, there is a sense of unease in the air.

Abi lies still and silent in the hospital bed, her body limp and unresponsive. Her skin is pale and clammy, and her breathing is shallow. The doctors have done everything they can for her, but now all they can do is wait for her to regain consciousness. Though I do not doubt you, I cannot help but wish you a speedy return to consciousness.

Abi's appearance is a stark contrast to her lively and energetic personality. Her hair is matted and tangled from lying still in the hospital bed. She is hooked up to various monitors and IVs, and her hospital gown hangs loosely on her emaciated frame. Despite the machines beeping around her, she looks peaceful in her unconscious state.

As the minutes tick by, the doctors and nurses keep a watchful eye on her, waiting for any sign of improvement. The room is still and silent, with the exception of the machines beeping softly in the background.

i sat beside her and hold her hand. "Abi i know you can't hear me but i hope you can feel the need in my heart to see you finally open your eyes. it hasn't been long but i cant take it anymore. The guilty is growing each second inside of me."

i was looking at abi when i felt a pair of eyes staring at me.

It was Max. He was here all along. This guy. Do I love him? if yes does he feel the same? I don't know him very well but why do i feel like I've known him for soo long? i think i shouldn't rush things let me think about it carefully first. i thought while smiling at him. Despite all that I am thankful that he didn't leave my side all this time.

"Are you okay?" he asked.

"yeah i guess now I am." I said. "I just have a lot in my mind." He nodded in understanding and hugged me.

A sudden phone call came in and Max went out to pick it up. After a few minutes he came back but he had to leave for work. i bid goodbye to him. He smiled and gave me quick peck on my lips then wicked at me before walking away. here we go again!  i wasn't expecting that kind of goodbye from him, but it happened so fast that i couldn`t utter a word. it always happens so fast.
