10. Accident

Dad suddenly pushed me to the side and I fell hard on the ground. When I looked up I couldn't see dad in front of me so I looked around, and there I saw people started to rush towards the pole which was at some distance from me on the opposite side of the road. I started to get a bad premonition and I didn't like the feeling it was giving me. I slowly stood up with the help of a rod on the wall and clutched my side and slowly limped towards the crowd. I squeezed through the crowd and looked at the scene and for an instance I froze, it was the most horrible scene I could ever see.

A man was lying on the pole with blood continuously flowing out of the head where there was a wound that probably slightly split his head. His hand was disfigured unimaginably and his legs were on the verge of getting classified as crushed. I knew this person well, so I slowly went to him and shook his body. This was my dad, he is in this state due to the truck colliding with him.

I started shouting, "WAKE UP DAD, WAKE UP YOU CAN NOT DO THIS TO M....." and my vision slowly blacked out and I fell on the ground.

( THIRD PERSON POV )

Seeing the vehicle smash the person, all the people started surrounding him. The truck driver immediately stopped the truck and got down and came running to see the site. People noticed that he was drunk. The small kid who came in front of everyone went near the body and started shouting and fainted suddenly. One person quickly called an ambulance. After some time both the ambulance and the police came together. They started to inquire about what happened and quickly arrested the driver of the truck. The ambulance quickly took both, most likely father-son duo on their van and quickly went away.

Upon reaching the hospital they quickly took both of them to the emergency ward. Later one of the doctors came out and announced that the father was brought dead to the hospital and the son is unconscious due to sustaining some injuries. The police then quickly contacted some of the important contacts listed on the father's phone and told them about the news.

After a while, the whole hospital was filled with people who came for the father-son duo. Most of them had shocked faces and couldn't believe that such a thing happened. Then suddenly one of them went towards the doctors and asked, "Sir may I know when would the child wake up."

The doctor replied, "We do not know but we estimate he would wake up in a day or two."

The person replied, "That's good then thank you doctor." and turned back to leave but the doctor suddenly asked, "May I know who you are and what your relationship is with the man."

The person replied, "Oh my name is Kamizato Shirogana and the person who passed away is my best friend." The doctor then said, "My condolences." and walked away.

Slowly 2 days passed away and Rei still showed no signs of waking up. Everyone who came went back and now only a few people stayed and one of them is Shirogana. He stayed here from that day and didn't even go back home. He was extremely sad that he lost his only best mate who stayed with him almost his whole life and left him so suddenly. He was also thinking about the boy who doesn't know his mother and now doesn't have a father is left to be an orphan. He then mentally decided that he would take up the responsibility to raise the child as his own.

Suddenly the room door opened and the nurse came out and told them, " The boy has woken up just now."

Shirogana was the first to react and went towards the nurse and asked in a hurried voice, "Is he ok? How is he feeling? Can we go and meet him?"

The nurse who is suddenly bombarded with the questions understood his panic and answered calmly, " Yes his vitals are normal and he is slowly stabilizing. You can go and meet him but please don't keep much strain on the patient."

Shirogana then nodded and looked back towards the people who were present and saw them nodding at him so he slowly opened the door and looked inside. The kid Rei was starting outside the window and hearing the sound of the door opening turned to face him and the look on his face could express his emotions completely. It was devoid of any emotion and loss.
