Tripping On Thin Air

[You Live]

Wow, can't say I wasn't surprised to see such an obvious reward, for surviving that. Whilst they were still crying, I waited, watching everything scatter into the void. I kept watching till I saw a 2nd pod get launched into space.

I knew that had to be Kara zor-el, but I could only hope after all, who knows, who that could be but if it isn't Kara I would be disappointed. Watching on a little longer as the streak of light left behind by the pod disappeared into space, it made me think about how I wanted to see what Earth looked like.

That's when I turned around, to head towards the cockpit, leaving my parents sitting there. Passing through the intricately designed metal interior of the ship, I arrived to see a bunch of metal robots working on different panels that controlled the ship's various functions.

I looked at the captain's chair like it was my rightful throne, stepping up to it, I drew my hand across the armchair and went along to sit upon the smooth leather. I set a course for earth and checked up on the robots whether to see whether everything was functional.

As I waited, I was drawn into the void, and as I looked out into the nothingness, it did seem quite calming and quite peaceful. Being pleasantly surprised as I wasn't able to take my eyes off it, whilst I waited for my parents to show up in the cockpit.

About 20 minutes later, I heard footsteps coming from down the hallway, heading in my direction and glancing back, I spotted my father had my mother leaning against his chest as they entered into the cockpit.

I pointed in the direction of two chairs that had buckles that would help reduce the g-force of warping through space. Seeing them sit down, I noticed my mother's eyes still had a bit of redness to them.

Seeing that, they began buckling themselves in, I asked in a peaceful tone, "Mother, father are you ready?" Looking at them earnestly.

My parents finished locking themselves down and looked up to me when my mother said "Yes, dear" and looking to the side, my father just put his thumb up, but I could see he was just putting on a brave face.

Nodding my head, I looked out the cockpit and into the depths of space, pressing a button on the side of my arm rest, that signalled for the warp drives to begin warming up. If you listened closely you could make out, all throughout the ship, the winding, piercing, sound of the warp drives powering on.

As a holographic screen sprung up, I called out to everybody who was listening "Get, ready" as I waved my hand in the air to single the robots to get ready with any countermeasure that would be needed for any warp drive to be safely allowed to activate.

When I saw all the green lights across the holographic screen. I spoke seriously, "Activate the warp drive" I watched as the nose of the ship stretched forward, reaching out almost infinitely. Seeing the stars warp and stretch, that's when I felt my body dig into the chair because we entered into the warp tunnel.

That's when I felt a sudden tug on my body, and at that moment I saw everyone freeze.

I just heard metallic noises, sound out.

[Error... Activated.. Error..]

[Body Currently In Dimensional Gape]

[Due to Error...]

What the hell, god, shut up, it just keeps saying error.

Even though everything was frozen I was still able, move around, but looking around everyone was frozen, and only I seemed to be able to move.

Looking around I noticed that the air seemed to have distinct ripples in it making it look warped, everything, in fact, appeared to be slightly warped, almost like an image on top of wavy water.

I don't understand during a warp, you shouldn't be able to move as your body instantly traverses space and time, almost like sleep where you just wake up without feeling the time in-between, but here I was not able to make sense of things.

Around the room, I spotted these cracks that just floated off the ground aiming at the ceiling and some were floating parallel to the ground. They would appear out of know where and disappear into thin air, but they all had different colours, ranging through the whole spectrum.

Though the nearest crack to me was one that glowed a bright yellow, I didn't feel any threat from any of them, but out of stupidity I went along and tried to touch it just so I could know what it felt like.

I needed to know.

My famous last words as I felt an exceedingly, strong pulling sensation as my hand came into contact with the light coming out from the crack.

Trying to resist the pull only brought me closer until the smallest part of my body entered into the crack, and the next thing I knew, I was already floating within this strange place.

I didn't feel anything, in fact, it just felt familiar to me, how, I didn't know it just did. I just let my body drift through the subspace, closing my eyes, and just letting my body enjoy the satisfying feeling.

Not knowing how much time had passed, but I kept drifting within this yellow tunnel that seemed to never end, and I kept asking myself whether I should have touched that light.

So far it felt like I was falling and hovering at the same time, when a sudden shift, forced me to the side, waking me up and when I looked I saw almost the same crack just floating there but, oddly, I could see through and glimpse at people walking past it.

Shooting out the crack had me flying into an alley, till I came to a stop after scraping against the ground, as I grunted under the pain. I pushed myself off the ground and onto my knees, to see blood falling from my face.

Glancing behind me, and seeing just how far I skidded across the ground, didn't make me too happy. The alleyway entrance was about 20 to 30 meters away from the sidewalk where people could be seen walking past the opening in the alley.

Grunting as I stepped up onto my feet, I was met with a 'pleasant' surprise.

''Oh, that's where you are, good'' The soft and angelic voices sounded out in my head.

Listening to him, I perked my eyebrow up in confusion, "What's that supposed to mean?" as I looked to the sky thinking he could see me.

''Well, I can't give you the details, but think about this as a positive, you can now train your powers before you head back'' I could clearly hear the smile behind the speech he gave me.

''Well, if anything, since it's a new world, here's your new objective'' his own voice was interrupted by the system updating in the back of my mind.

''Good luck to you''

It didn't take too long for the echo of his voice to dissipate away, leaving me to look at my stats.

After reading through the system and at all the updated parts, I had an epiphany causing me to became perplexed, as a simple thought crossed my mind, resulted in me shouting at the system, "How do I leave!"

Subsequently, when I didn't hear a reply, I yelled at him again "I know you can hear me, you shit!" again, nothing, so I decided to wipe the blood from my face, flicking it off my hand, onto the ground.

Sighing, as I thought about having to take a look around. Stepping out into the sunlight was nice when I heard the system sound out an update ding in the back of my mind. Although before I could check I felt a crippling sensation take over my body as I dropped back onto my knees on the sidewalk.

Squeezing my eyes as a high pitch, ear-piercing sound propagated throughout my head, I tried to subdue it by placing my hands against my ears, but the sound continued to penetrate my mind.

I knew this wasn't going to stop it, but I had hoped it would lessen it, giving me time to rein it in, but alas that didn't work. My mind quickly raced through ways I could control my hearing, and nothing came to mind.

Therefore, I practically said fuck it and started trying to contort my inner ear, then went to my mind to physically control the output and input of the sound coming in, which seemed to have a great effect in on me being able to control what I could hear.

After that ordeal, I could feel that my mind was exhausted, and unfortunately it seemed my body had more to give, as I planted my hand against the concert, my eyes opened to only see the emptiness of space, stretching far and wide under me.

Yet the biggest shock still was I could feel the ground beneath my hands, as I clenched into a fist, feeling the ruff cement and the loose granules move with my fingers.

Believe me, I got a good shock out of it for a little while when I looked at my hands. Noticing that my skeleton could be seen, and that's when I remembered that X-ray vision was something Kryptonians possessed when they came into contact with yellow sunlight.

That's when I did the same for my hearing, but this time with my eyes only allowing the bear minim to be allowed into my eyes. Slowly I worked on it, and began to see the other side of the planet's crust, until I slowly was able to see the concert below my fingers.

Sighing as I was finally able to control my own body just brought a smile to my face. That's when I felt a hand place against my shoulder, looking up I heard them speak to me " Sir are you ok?"
