The dinner left a deep impression on Irene's heart. She decided to find out more about the entire Delacroix family before Sebastian sent out their wedding invitations to his extended family.
Unfortunately, some of the family members were very secretive and she couldn't ask Sebastian because he was always busy with his work these days. He said he should at least finish most of his work before throwing a lavish wedding party.
"Miss Russell, may I come in?" Jasmine knocked on her bedroom door a few times.
Irene, "Yes."
Jasmine poked her head through the door. She held a notebook and pen in her hand. "Mr. Delacroix asked you to write down the names of the people you would like to invite to your wedding."
Irene was silent for a moment as she struggled to think of names to write in the notebook. "Just left the notebook. I'll fill it out later."
After Jasmine left the room, Irene took the notebook but did not write anything on the paper. She was not someone who liked to socialize at her university, so she only had acquaintances, but no close friends.
The wedding would be an exclusive event so she couldn't invite random people. Besides, those people would also reflect her life in front of Sebastian's guests.
What about her family?
Irene paced around her room, biting the tip of the pen because she felt anxious whenever she thought about her family. However, they would probably feel bad if they knew that their worthless daughter was suddenly married to the tyrant.
Sebastian Delacroix.
Who wouldn't be shaken after seeing that name?
A smile plastered on her face. She could hardly wait to see what Catelyn would think of her marriage.
Daniel left Irene, but she married his boss instead. In other words, she was dumped by an ugly duckling but got a swan instead.
When she mentioned Daniel's name in her mind, she suddenly remembered something.
Irene called Sebastian. She didn't expect the busy man to pick up her call, but he answered with no less than three beeps.
"Something happened?" asked Sebastian as soon as the call was connected.
"Nothing happened. I just wanted to ask you something." Irene asked, "When Heather came by, she told me that you fired Daniel. Is that true?"
There was a long pause after Irene said this. She even suspected that Sebastian had ignored her call.
"You called me just to talk about your lousy ex?" Sebastian spoke with a low intonation, "I thought you missed me."
Irene also didn't know why she had called Sebastian just to ask him that. Could she just want to hear his voice since they hadn't seen each other in the last few days?
Nonsense.
How could Irene miss that annoying man?
"I just wondering why Mrs. Cain suddenly stopped working for Daniel."
"From the beginning, Mrs. Cain only worked with me. I only lent her to Mr. Hawkins because I thought his skills were good enough." The sound of clicking pens came from the phone. "Unfortunately, he is a dishonest person. I fired him because I couldn't let a thief roaming around in my company."
In other words, Sebastian had fired Daniel because he had stolen Irene's jewelry designs. But he didn't want to say it openly.
"I've decided to invite my family to our wedding," Irene informed him to change their topic.
"That's good." Sebastian softened his voice. "But will you be alright?"
"Why shouldn't I? I'm going to show off my expensive husband at my wedding." Irene raised her head and looked at the ceiling as she thought of something. "Maybe I'll also invite my cousin and some of my friends. But I don't know if they will come."
"Who cares? Why feel bad that some guests didn't come when you could have had expensive champagne at your wedding?"
Irene laughed out loud after hearing his joke. Even though she knew he intended to show off his wealth, at least it made Irene's heart feel better.
"If Anetta decides to come, I want to ask her why she made bad news about me and made me face so many hate speeches."
"Don't push yourself too hard. You're not a stone, you might break one day," warned Sebastian.
It sounded a bit funny to Irene because Philip used the word "stone" with a negative connotation, but it didn't sound so bad when Sebastian said it.
"I know, but it's better to know the truth." Irene smiled, even though she knew Sebastian couldn't see it. "All right, I'm going to hang up, I know you must be very busy. Oh, I almost forgot, I want to find a wedding dress today. Can you give me some money?"
A wedding dress would cost a lot of money and Irene didn't want to waste her money on it. Besides, she wanted to start taking her role as a gold digger seriously.
"Mrs. Cain will give you a credit card. It has no limit, so you can buy whatever you want." Sebastian continued, "Mrs. Cain will also accompany you to my family boutique."
A broad smile immediately appeared on Irene's face. She could finally hold a card she had been dreaming about. After the last few months of scrimping and saving for her business, Irene could once again shop until she couldn't hold paper bags anymore.
"Thank you, darling. I will use the card wisely." Irene's voice became more melodious and cute. "I hope you finish your work quickly."
"You can only act adorable after I give you mon—"
Irene hung up before Sebastian could finish his sentence. She opened her closet, looked at her clothes for a few moments, and thought she needed to buy some new clothes, too.
At noon, Amber came to Sebastian's house to pick up Irene. Before they left the house, she gave Irene a black card made of silver. The card felt heavy in her hand, making her tremble because she knew she had so much money now.
"Mr. Delacroix told me he would like to have dinner with you after you go shopping, Miss Russell," Amber said.
Irene chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Oh, finally he realizes I am still alive after days of ignoring my existence."
If she hadn't contacted Sebastian that day, he might not have bothered to make dinner plans with her.
"He can't help it, Miss Russell. Mr. Delacroix wants to finish all his work so you can go on your honeymoon in peace after the wedding."
