Superman The Man Of Metropolis

Jor-El, the best scientist on Krypton, is looking at a screen with a model of a ship on it making sure everything is working. He rushes to the other side of the room with red and white robes flowing behind him as he looks at another screen, this one has a model of the planet Earth. 

The ground shakes, making him lose his balance but he quickly leans against the computer to make him regain his composure. Quickly finishing typing on the screen a small silver ship beside him starts hovering a few feet off the ground. 

"Lara, it's time" He tells as a beautiful woman with beautiful blue eyes and elegant looking brown hair walks to the room carrying a sleeping infant in her arms. She slowly walks towards the ship, keeping her eyes on her son as tears begin to fall down her cheek. 

Jor-El walks to her side, putting a small white dog in the ship filled with blankets. He looks at his wife now tears begin to form in his eyes. "This is the best thing for him," he tells her.

"I..I know" she replies, her voice shaking with sadness. "I just wish we had more time."

He puts his hand under her cheeks moving her head so he can look at her eyes. "Me too" he replies, wiping away her tears with his thumb. 

They both look down at the sleeping baby Lara stroking his cheek with her finger. They stand there for a few seconds just looking at their son finally doing the hardest thing for both of them and putting him in the ship next to the small dog.

Jor-El places his hand on his son's head. "Goodbye my little Kal-El." He says placing a kiss on the baby's forehead. 

Lara starts putting the dog as he lays comfortable next to their baby. "Protect him to the best of your ability Krypto." Lara steps back as Jor-El goes back to his computer both ignoring the room shaking around them. 

Jor-El grades a white crystal walking to the ship and placing it in a slot. As soon as he does the ship starts to rumble and a hatch closes sealing in Kal-El and Krypto. 

Jor-El puts his arms around his wife both watching as the ship shoots into the emptiness of space far away from Krypton.

The ship enters the atmosphere of the designated planet catching on fire as it sends debris everywhere as it gets closer to the ground. Part of the night sky lights up due to the as the ball of flame is about to crash into the ground of a nearby home.

Rodney Spellman was a truck driver driving the same rig for almost 11 years. He's driven around the country and has seen all different types of people. Some were bad but most were good. Most everyone would mostly keep to their own.

But the passenger sleeping beside him was different. He couldn't point it out but from the first time he saw the young man walking along the road trying his best to hitchhike with a smile on his face something seemed different about him.

Clark Kent was his name and as soon as Rodney pulled over his blue eyes lit up with a joyest smile Rodney knew he was different. They have been driving together for over a day getting to know each other. Clark told him about his travels with his favorite places he's been along with the people he's met. 

While Clark was talking Rodney couldn't help but listen. The way he would explain things with great detail was intriguing and his smile was infectious. Rodney couldn't help but smile with Clark. 

Eventually Clark fell asleep and slept for hours, his long rugged black hair covering one of his eyes. When he woke back up Clark told him how happy he was to return home to Kansas after being gone for five years.

But Clark fell asleep again and would remain so for the rest of the journey. When they finally arrived in Kansas the sun was beginning to rise.

"Hey kid" Rodney said as Clark's head was resting against the truck's window. 

"Hey kid!" He said a little more firmly. Clark jumped a little, rubbing his eyes awake. "We're here."

Clark looked out the window, his eyes lightening up with excitement. Rodney noticed this and couldn't help but smile too.

"Am I going the Right way?" Rodney asked

"Yeah" Clark replied "it's just a few more miles down this road."

They continued down the road in silence Rodney hands at ten and two his eyes on the road as Clark kept looking out with a 

smile.

"How long has it been since you last saw this place?" Rodney asked, trying to break the silence. 

"Five years"

This shocked Rodney; he could tell Clark was young, maybe in his early twenties. "I left home after high school when I turned sixteen" Clark continued. 

This shocked Rodney even more; a sixteen year traveling alone was definitely not safe, especially these days. 

"So that would make you twenty now right?" Rodney asked as Clark turned away from the window to look at him with his sapphire blue eye.

"I turned twenty one in February," Clark smiled. "After my birthday I decided to keep traveling but after a few weeks I thought I saw everything I needed to and decided to come home."

"So you just hitchhiked your way back home," Rodney added. "Not the safest way to travel." 

"That's why it's so cheap," Clark laughed.

Rodney even laughed because Clark's good mood was infectious. They continued down the road in silence until Clark broke the quiet ride.

"The trail is coming up over here," he pointed out.

The turck came to a stop beside the road to where Clark pointed out. Clark grabbed his belongings, stuffing them into his teal duffle bag. 

Once he was finished he turned to Rodney extending his arm. "Thank you" he said as Rodney shook it.

"Good luck kid" he said while Clark opened the door and stepped onto the gravel.

Clark shut the door to the truck walking back until he could see Rodney through the window giving him one last wave Goodbye. 

The truck's engine roared as the rig drove down the road leaving Clark to stand there as it disappeared from his sight. 

Clark turned towards the familiar road that led to Kent farm. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath letting the Kansas air fill his lungs. 

It smelled as it did when he was little. Fresh air with a hint of wheat and dirt along with sunflowers. He stood there focusing all his senses feeling the sun on his skin and listening to the birds chirping and flapping their wings.

His mind went black as he let his senses take over. Eventually he could hear the bees buzzing around the sunflowers and worms moving around in the soil. 

Cars were honking in the next town over and people were walking their footstep being heard a state away. However it seemed too much pretty soon Clark could hear everything and it hurt.

He quickly opened his eyes now focusing his hearing to the wind and only the wind. Some of his powers he got control of but others such as his enhanced senses were harder. Putting his hand in his side pocket he pulled out his IPod while also putting his earphones in both ears.

Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros started playing in each ear. He picked up his duffle bag and started walking down the trail. 

Clark had a faster way getting there but today of all days he felt like walking. Sometimes he walked, other times he used a different way of travel.

As he continued to travel, the ground would crunch with each step. The birds flew about him as the sun began to rise more as the orange in the sky was no longer visible. 

Eventually a yellow house began to be visible along with the red burn next to it. Clark's heart began with excitement as he began to wake faster.

"Damn thing" Johnathan Kent said as trying to pull at a park plug to a rusty old white Ford. He didn't even know why he bothered; he could hardly get it to work. As he started to continue he heard a loud bark and a white blur speed past his vision leaving a trail of fur.

Curiosity got a hold of him. So he walked down the driveway and what he saw made his heart jump. Keeling down petting a dog with joy was his son. 

Clark kept petting his dog Krypto as he would lick his face and roll on the ground. He didn't know who missed who the most. "You got so big," he said with a playful voice.

He heard footsteps coming closer to him and he looked up seeing Johnathan coming closer with a smile on his face.

Clark stood up walking to his father, both men with smiles across their faces and they were close enough he embraced each other with a hug. 

And when they both separated John looked up and down at his son. Last time they saw each other Clark was a boy but it amazed Jonathan that the boy standing in front of him was no longer a boy but a man.

"Your hair is longer," Johnathan told Clark as he laughed trying to long as his hair went a little past his shoulders. "And your shoulders are broader."

"Yeah they both are" Clark replied "plus I'm taller too." He pointed out 

Both embraced each other another  time. When they separated both men started walking towards the house with Krypto following behind. 

"Your mother's going to be so thrilled," Johnathan said. "We should celebrate how about a beer?.

Clark laughed as his father didn't even feel like a question to him. "How about a soda?"

Johnathan laughed, putting a hand on Clark's shoulders. "Welcome home son." He said as both him and his son and the white dog behind them entered the house.
