A Reunion To Remember

Sarah and Jack, your favorites of the whole family, were battling with sticks. "How's my favorite twins?" You shout. Sarah drops her stick and narrowly avoids getting hit with the stick. "Y/N!" She shouts and runs over to hug you. You hug her back. "We have cupcakes in the kitchen, although if you go in there they'll judge every life decision you made. Grandma asked me if I was dating anyone. I'm 12." She says rolling her eyes in the direction of the kitchen.

"Keep that attitude up." You said holding your fist out. Jack says "Mom dragged me out of my room to be here. And all they've done is insult my honor." He closes his fist and closes his eyes edgily. "He's talking like a nerd again." Sarah said. "I am not a nerd! I am a dungeon master. Nerds are not on my level. I am above them all." "Tough talk for a 12 year old who cries when someone says 'your mom' on the playground." Sarah said throwing shade at him.

Jack gave you the stick. "Battle me dear cousin." "Who am I to deny your request?" You ask. As the faux swords clanged together, and your feet shuffled on the grass, tearing it apart, your bag fell off. Your book tumbled out. Sarah's eye caught onto it. She picked it up and dusted it off and opened it and sat on a tree stump.

Uncle Hale came over. "Sarah! Why aren't you talking with your family?" "I am. They're sword fighting right now." "Your other family." "The family who told me to watch my weight? No thanks." He grabs the book much to her protest and starts shouting the ending. "Well you do sweetheart" Sarah starts to look around for a stick to hit her father with.

"...YOU HAVE NO POWER OVER ME!" He finished the ending. Your mouth hung open. "I think we need to fight him." You say. "One who ruins an ending simply for the pleasure of it shall be hung by their toenails. Father or not, he shall be of no relation to me as of this time." Jack says. "I'll join you." Sarah says picking up a branch. All 3 of you yelled and chased after your uncle. "It was a joke! Geez." He threw the book and you dropped your stick and caught it. "Hmph. Fathers have no honor nowadays."

You stared at it and shook your head. "He spoiled the ending." "You should call the Goblin King on him." Sarah said. "I should...but he's our family. And I don't want you guys to be fatherless. I know neither of you would go and save him. Let's be honest." They nod in agreement. "So why not call upon the King to take him away? It would be better for everyone."

Sarah grabs the book and flips to it. Jack ran over as Sarah started to say "Oh Goblin King. I wish you would take-" Jack hit Sarah on the head with a stick. "Ugh! I hate you Jack. You know what? I wish the Goblin King would take YOU away from here. Right. Now." She glared at him and looked over to you challengingly when you said "Sarah! That's not nice, apologize to him right-" the stick dropped and they both looked to where Jack had been standing. "Jack?" She asked her face going pale.

"JACK??" You yelled. You half expected him to jump out the bushes as a joke. But when you looked further and see he is not there. "OH GODS IT'S AN OWL. RUN." Sarah screamed. She's always been afraid of owls. She takes off into the woods. "SARAH!" You yelled but she was speeding away. You were going to be responsible if she fell off the cliff so you took off after her.

You found her standing in front of a big cave. "Y-Y/n what's that?" She asked pointing at some little creature. It was a goblin. "Get behind me." "SHI- UH I MEAN SHOOT IT FOLLOWED US!" Sarah screamed. You placed Sarah right behind you and got ready to fight anything that rushed you.

Instead the owl touched down and became a man.

"Oh Gods. It actually worked. That's the Goblin King." Sarah said holding onto you tightly. His eyes flicked between you and Sarah. "Where did you take Jack?" You ask, forgetting your own fear. Your family was in danger, you couldn't be scared now. "Were you the one who wished him away?" "She is." Sarah said quickly. "Hm. Then you know very well where he is...y/n."

How does he know your name? Was it because Sarah said it moments before?

"I do not." You said. You haven't even read the book all the way through. "It's too bad it was you who wished him away, you're the least interesting of all your family. If it were Sarah maybe she'd have a chance." You looked at him. "Hey she's 12 back off. I don't fight people much but I can and will hit you." He chuckled as if it were amusing.

"my...you're in trouble aren't you?" He asks. "very well then. He's in my castle." You felt Sarah's grip on you loosen and the world as you knew it fell away. The castle was in the distance, beyond a maze, and the sky was a tomato soup kind of red. Every cell in your body told you to run.

You look behind you to see Sarah wasn't there. You look back to the Goblin King and he smiled. "You're no belle of the ball aren't you. I've never had someone like you come into the labrynth before. It will be very entertaining." "Someone like me?" "Go back Y/n. Play with your cousins and read your life away. You have no place here. No one will help you, not when you look like that." Ouch. You weren't ugly at all. You were more like Jane Eyre plain, instead of whatever he was thinking.

You look at the castle and say "It doesn't look that far." You say. "It's farther than you think." He says, suddenly behind you. You take a few steps away. "Leave the boy with me. And everything will be alright."

"I can't." "You wish the boy away, and now you want him back. How selfish and cruel can you be?" You straighten up and look him dead in the eye and said "I can be crueler. And I will defeat your Labrynth and take my cousin back from you." he steps back and a large clock stands between you and him. The numbers counted all the way to 13. "You have 13 hours to get your cousin, and if you fail I will turn your cousin into one of us." He pauses. "And maybe we'll even have you turn into one. It'd be an improvement for you."

"I am not ugly-" But he vanished. You huffed. "YOUR EYELINER IS MESSED UP BY THE WAY!" You yelled, knowing he probably was listening. You say "Well I don't absorb the opinion of people who don't matter to me anyway. The only definition of beauty you have, is from the mirror in your secluded lonely castle." You began walking towards the entryway.
