A Magical Place with A Magical Book

The bell on the door chimed as you walked in the antique store. "Willow! You here?" You call out looking for the whimsical woman who ran the store. "Oh hello love!" She said walking out behind an impossibly small beam. She had bright pink hair. "Oh you dyed your hair." You said surprised. She nodded "Pink beats wrinkles you know. And before you ask, yes we have more 'magical' artifacts. However they're scattered everywhere in the maze. Have fun." She said waving you off.

You begin looking around. Most of these things were things you had seen before, and you knew where everything supposedly was. You gasp in shock "You sold the big mirror?" You shout so she could hear you. "Yes! Mr. Mose purchased it for his daughters 13th." Man, you wanted that antique mirror. Well there would be more anyway. You finally get to the book section and one red book among darker covers instantly draws your eye. It was a new book.

You took it off the shelf and looked at the book. "Labrynth...hm." You opened it to see a note from someone named Sarah. You loved it when people give books to other people and leave a note. It makes you smile knowing this book was loved by someone named Sarah. You skip the note and read the first 5 pages.

You loved it.

Screw everything else you needed to buy it immediately.

You rushed up to the counter and placed it down. "How much is this one?" She looked at it and sighed "I recently got it from an online auction. It cost me 740 dollars." You looked down. It was worth that much? "Actually I think I'll go put this back. I am not worthy to be touching this book." "Y/n, how often are you here?" She asks. "I've lost count." You said.

"if you really want it, you can sweep the floors every Saturday for a month." "4 Saturdays? Are you sure I'm not gonna put you out of business?" You ask. "I'll run you ragged don't expect it to be easy." She warns with a smile. "Thanks." You pick the book back up and she said "Say hello to your family for me."

"My family?" You ask confused. She nodded "Marilyn told me about that reunion that you were having today." "Oh no. I totally forgot about that. I gotta go." You rushed out the door and took your bike off the bike rack and placed it in your backpack and then started riding to your house.

You go down the streets and narrowly avoid getting hit by a speeding car and you rush to get inside. "Y/n! Where have you been?" Your mother said crossing her arms. "I forgot that the reunion was today. I went to the library, I fed the ducks at the water- uh pond and then I stopped by the antique store and Willow reminded me I had it today. I really thought today was Monday." You said.

"Go get ready. You're lucky we don't have to travel far." You nod and then go get ready. After doing that you looked out your window to make sure it didn't look like it would rain or ruin your carefully planned outfit. A bird flies right across the window and then lands in the tree. You narrow your eyes. "What's a barn owl doing in the city?" You tried to remember everything about what you researched. You wrote a story once that involved owls.

They were nocturnal, couldn't see during the day, and preferred plantations and farms and didn't like the city. It's also said to be good luck.

You stared at the owl and then shrugged. Real life has been so weird lately, that this didn't even phase you.

After going downstairs and seeing your mother fuss over your dad and his tie, you stuffed the book inside your purse into the hidden compartment. Your mother comes over. "You didn't bring a book? I better not catch you reading. You don't get to see your grands or other family members. You have to socialize." "I didn't bring a book." You lied. "Open the bag." You do and she pulls out your decoy book and gives you a look. She set it down on the table of the entryway and then opened the door.

"You too (f/n) no reading. Set the book on the table." Your father begrudgingly pulled his book out of his sweater and placed it on top of your decoy book. You see the outline of a book in the back of his sweater. You really were his daughter.

After 40 minutes of driving, and arguing over the directions, you finally got to the reunion. It was at some lake and a huge center stood near a cliff. When your mother unbuckles and shuts the car, your father looks at you. "Your book is in the secret compartment right?" He asks. You hold the book up. He smiles and taps his back. "Now go and be anti-social. Make me proud and your relatives mad." "As you wish." You say and you go outside.
