He stood at his spot and readied his wooden katana.
When it still wasn't his turn, he was observing the other kids in hacking the bamboo pole.
And from what he had observed, there was no time limit and it is also effective if you use a huge wind up when swinging.
Eiji had an idea, and that idea was to jump and hack at the same time!
*Bam!
*Bam!
*Bam!
*Bam!
*Bam!
"Huuhh! Huuhh!"
After five hits, he was able to destroy the bamboo pole, but he was panting as he used a lot of energy in jumping up conseqiutively.
With this five hits he was now a bit more than the average or just at the average level.
It was enough as long as it wasn't the lowest.
The teacher saw what he did and just smiled slightly. This test was a performance test.
It not just shows their swordsmanship and strength but also their ingenuity and wit if they encounter a problem, so the less time and effort they do and produce satisfactory job, the better.
"You can go at the third test now! It is located at a bit further away from here. You can go with the others!"
"Okay thank you sir!"
Eiji took some deep breath as he slowly walk towards the direction that the teacher said.
He walked into a line of trees. After a bit of walking he arrived in an open area. In this area there are also teachers monitoring everywhere.
And this time he saw the batch ahead of him sprawled on the ground panting and sweating.
There were even some of them that were barfing and some that fainted.
"Oh? It seems like the next batch is here! Come kids! Your last test is here!"
Eiji who arrived with the others were curious as to what the last test was.
" Haha! I know all of you are curious as to what the last test is! Well...see that open field circle here?!
You all have one hour! Run in circles the more laps you have the better your score will be!
Now run!"
".."
".."
Everyone was stunned at first, but when they saw him starting the timer, the dashed forward.
Now they knew why the batch ahead of him were panting so much!
-----
An hour quickly passed by.
There were another batch that came and was waiting for them to finish.
And they saw their current conditions.
A lot of the kids gulped and gaped as they watched others collapse form exhaustion.
"Haaah! Haaa! Haaah!"
Eiji managed to stay until the last second and finished 10 laps. His two legs were
Trembling and the soles of his feet were numb from pain.
"Seems like a lot of you managed to last till the last second good job!
Alright! The third test is done! We are finished.
And just a quick reminder, Tomorrow's class will start at 10 in the morning, for those that wants to get their own dormitories, get here early and you will be assigned on a room!
Now you can go back and congratulations in getting accepted in the school!
Good bye!"
""Thank you teacher!!""
Eiji and the others thanked the teacher, they took some qater that was available in the table after a break they slowly left home.
But they were all happy and excited for the future ahead of them as they are finally a student of the Samurai School!
Eiji arrived at the waiting area.
The others were already there waiting.
The kids expression weren't good, it would seem that most of them didn't managed to get accepted.
"Eiji! Congratulations! You are now on the path of becoming a swordsman!"
"Thank you sister Rebecca!"
Eiji thanked sister Rebecca.
They then left to go back to the orphanage.
When they were walking back, the other children congratulated Eiji and the other kid that managed to get accepted.
It seems that out of the eleven of them, there were only two of them that was accepted, the kid's name was Dan.
He was an energetic kid that was always laughing and hanging around the other kids.
This time he managed to get accepted to the school so he was very enthusiastic and didn't took into account the feelings of the other kids that didn't get it.
It resulted in the other kids getting angry at him, normally they would've been happily smiling along with him, but with their hopes and dreams coming short of being fulfilled, they were all very unhappy and sad.
So with Dan's too enthusiastic and too much chattering, they snapped at him and they nearly ganged up with him.
Eiji and sister Rebecca managed to stop them, but Dan was resentful at the kids, but so were the kids at him.
It was an awkward silence on the way home.
