Shinobi of the Black Blade

Survive, adapt and overcome in the world of shinobis while having a template that gives Jin the full edge lord experience. Jin Kurama the black sheep of the Kurama clan will fall into obscurity or carve out his own path in the harsh environment of the shinobi world. Mc has anger issues. [Rated R-18 for violence, swear language and Gore.] (The progress of this story will heavily depend on the authors mood swings, so save up your powerstones for other stories that you like.) [Also tone down with the power stones on this story. I don't know when I'm going to loose interest and finished this story in the most butchered way possible. I repeat: this story is something I write because I felt like it and nothing else.]

[Jin's PoV]

Arriving at the tower located in the center of the forest of death. To some degree I want a refund. Even with murderous convicts running around in the so-called jungle of death, I felt unchallenged.

Yes, there was a two meter long tiger that tried picking a fight with us, keyword being tried. Over sized cat didn't last three rounds with Hokuto before running with it's tail between it's legs.

Turned out giant tree leeches are delicious, especially grilled over fire until they are crusty on the outside and juicy on the inside. Ashame that I forgot to bring seasons.

Sadly Kobeni isn't as proficient with fire release than my Furnace-bito. Instead, her strong suits lie in genjutsu and bukijutsu. She started to tie her hair up in a messy bun behind her head recently and started to carry a tanto. She still couldn't look me in the eyes, but is able to follow instructions during combat like a well oiled machine.

Hokuto is what I call a "by the book Hyuga". Proficient in the Hyuga style taijutsu known as gentle fist and the basics taught in the academy. He's not one for weapons, preferring taijutsu over other methods of combat. Probably drilled in by the main branch of those Otsutsuki wannabes.

After sending the two targets to the pure lands, we obtained a number three scrolls and a number two. I didn't want to make it too obvious that my team was out to thin out the competition, thus we refrained from ambushing the other contestants.

We managed to be the first ones arriving at the tower in the evening on the first day. On our way we encountered another team heading towards the tower. Without hesitation, I choose Kobeni to use genjutsu on the team and pretended to steal their scrolls. While they were on guard, my team did a b-line into the tower.

Since we arrived on the first day, our team had plenty of time to recuperate and prepare for whatever comes next. Both Hokuto and Kobeni were exhausted when we arrived. I couldn't blame them, I was the one urging them to run all the way to the tower with only minimal rest in between.

Day two. in the inbuild kitchen area of the tower me and a few other Genins have volunteered to prepare sustenance for our fellow Genins. There is that one akemichi senior genin that is build wide like a bear and had a constant frown on his face. Choma is his name if I remembered correctly. Dude had a appetite for my mapo tofu, which I can't say about my teammate Hokuto.

In contrast to his fellow akemichi clansmen who I compare to elephants. Peaceful creatures. Choma had the attitude of a grisly bear, a moody fellow most of the time, with the exception when he is fed.

I want to fight him if possible, he seems like the kind that can give me a good fight.

When I wasn't in the kitchen, I was rehearsing through my kenjutsu movements while tensing all the muscles in my body to generate counter force, making the exercise more strenuous and thus training all my muscles simultaneously.

When I want to stretch my arm outward, at the same time I generate opposing force by pulling my arm inwards. I am doing this with my entire body, not only straining my physical endurance but also my mental focus.

At the beginning I was only able to keep this training up for an hour at most before my quarter senju body gave out. Currently I am able to perform this training for two hours and fifty minutes before I had to stop.

Third day. When the last participants arrived before afternoon, the third phase of the chūnin exam began. Anyone that came later is automatically disqualified. Only four teams made it to this part of the exam. My team, a non-cannon inoshikacho team with the grumpy akemichi, a team with another Uchiha and a team without anyone noteworthy.

As per tradition, the hokage stood infront of the crowd and gave his speech about the will of fire and the boiling tensions between the five great hidden villages. To sum it up, nothing I didn't already know.

And as according to my expectations, there is a nonlethal elimination round that promotes the ones with higher combat prowess, while the weaker ones stay as Genin and prove there capabilities in the next chūnin exam. If they're able to improve their strength, otherwise when the war breaks out they will have the honor as cannon fodder.

The matchup is decided by drawing lots.

Hokuto's opponent is some older Genin that happens to be a ranged fighter.

Even with the byakugan's 360 degree vision, it is still no sharingan. The senior Hokuto is fighting is smart enough to avoid hand to hand combat and does his best to pepper Hokuto with any throwing weapons he had on him.

On paper this is a valid strategy against any Hyuga, but Hokuto is no fool nor one trick pony. Throwing a smoke bomb between him and his opponent, Hokuto conjured a clone that rushed towards his opponent and delved underground using the hiding like a mole technique, turning the tables. Since the Byakugan can see through objects and chakra network, Hokuto would be able to end the fight by performing the headhunter jutsu at the right moment.

Seeing the senior Genin weaving hand signs for the substitution jutsu waiting for Hokuto to strike, I predicted that the fight will be soon finished.

*BOOOMM!!*

Behind the Genin an explosive tags went off, knocking him forward. At the same time Hokuto sprang out of the ground and barraged him with a flurry of Juuken strikes, ending the battle with the older Genin paralyzed on the ground.

Despite what most like to believe, Hokuto is a shrewd individual. Behind his good natured attitude and his more cheerful personality hides a mind of a schemer. Cold, calculating and willing to use any means to achieve his goals.
