[Third person PoV]

Down in the arena the next pair of combatants readied themselves. On one side there is Kobeni Uchiha a rookie Genin. wearing a grey turtleneck shirt, short pants reaching her knees and a tanto strapped to her back. Despite the fact that she had not yet activated her sharingan, there was a intensity in her gaze that was unnerving to her opponent.

Her opponent, a Nara clan member. Typically long sleeved shirt with pants and hair tied back into a spiky ponytail.

Giving a look at both contestants the proctor announced the start of the fight.

"Begin!"

(recommended BGM: "A Dramatic Irony")

While the nara leaped backwards to gain distance. Kobeni dashed towards her opponent and began to use her Uchiha style shuriken jutsu, by launching several shurikens at different angles, causing them to collide and change trajectory mid flight making dodging all of them difficult.

Doing his best, the nara was able to block a few of the incoming shurikens, yet still recieved a few hits at non vital areas. Knowing that he is on the back foot, the nara threw down a smoke bomb and quickly used the substitution jutsu to switch places with a log. Not a moment too late, the sound of shurikens nailing on to wood could be heard.

Throwing down a few more smoke bombs, the nara decided to use the shadows caused by the smoke to extend his own shadow and trap his opponent using the shadow imitation jutsu. it would be like to catch fish in muddy waters, but listening to the footsteps, the shadow user had a general idea of the Uchiha's location.

*shadow imitation jutsu*

A line of shadow sliddered its way through the dissipating smoke clouds like a snake lauching at it's pray. Feeling his jutsu has connected the Nara sees three senbons flying towards him. He was able to dodge two of the projectiles with the third inbeted in his thigh.

He knows that his opponent shouldn't be able to throw those senbons while immobilized under his shadow imitation, but then noticed there was a second Kobeni standing behind the first one.

"Shadowclone jutsu." Kobeni pulled on ninja wires that were connected to the senbons she just threw earlier. The two senbons that missed the first time changed direction midair and found their mark on the Nara's back.

The Nara's jutsu over the shadow clone slipped and the clone immediately went through hand seals and spewed out a great fireball at the Nara before dispelling itself. With no choice, the Nara leaped out of the blast range of the in coming attack and dodged to the side just barely.

Before the Nara could take any further actions, there was already a cold blade gently resting close to his neck. While Kobeni's clone was performing the great fireball jutsu, Kobeni had weaved the seals for the bodyflicker jutsu. With the observation of the sharingan, she was able to predict the direction her opponent would be dodging and flicker at the Nara's blindspot.

"Winner Kobeni Uchiha." The proctor announced, ending the match.

With a hop in her steps, Kobeni walked back up the stairs in a joyous mood.

[Time skip: Two days later, midnight, at a remote training ground]

[Jin's PoV]

In the end the match up for the final phase of the chūnin exams are as followings:

Choma Akemichi vs Hokuto Hyuga

Jin Kurama vs Shisui Uchiha

Hikaru Gekko vs Kobeni Uchiha

After the First three matches there will be a three way fight. A little unprofessional in my opinion, but I'm not complaining. Come to think about it, to think I didn't noticed someone as infamous as Shisui is a shock to me. At first I just wrote him off as another Uchiha since he looked so mediocre. Probably the reason why I didn't connect the dots when seeing him for the first time.

On a different topic, I didn't expect Kobeni would be so fierce when I told her that I liked her and would like to hang out after she won her preliminary match. As a man of my words I would need to go out with her before the Finals. It's been almost fourteen years since I had a date. That was before I ended up in this world.

Even though my feelings for Kobeni weren't as much as she had for me. I am not unwilling to give this relationship a chance to bloom. If it doesn't work out it's fine, and I wouldn't mind.

[Somewhere under a waterfall]

Only in a pair of trousers under the non stopping downpour, Jin had been honing his chakra control like a someone that is sharpening his sword on a boulder, till the boulder itself is grinded to dust. Absolutely pushing his body and mind over the limit with no consideration of possible consequences. There will be non to begin with. For his body will just heal and mend itself together whenever it started to break. Even more impressive is the determination to endure such pain.

For others, what Jin is doing right now can be considered as self mutilation, if not for the mara-struck in his body stitching him together. His body is like iron and his training is the forge.

As for why he is training so relentlessly in the first place. It's because of his determination to survive the war that is looming over the distant horizon. It's not a question about if the third shinobi war will come, but a question of when it will happen. With no solid date on when the war will begin, the best course of action is to become as strong as possible in order to survive. Since Jin does not trust the higher ups of konoha to not "accidentally" send him on a suicide "mission".

The true nature of this generations Konoha's higher ups is that of exploiters and hypocrites. Hiruzen Sarutobi claims to inherit the will of the first hokage, but in truth he is as much of a scum as his father before him. Ever since his tenure as hokage it is his Sarutobi clan and it's allies that benefited the most. The Senju were constantly declining, the Uzumaki forsaken, while the Uchiha were suppressed until they were driven to launch a coup. With all the competitors gone, no one will be able to challenge his rule as hokage. Only the sage knows how many other clans have vanished during his time as hokage.

There is no doubt that Hiruzen had inherited the will of "fire", the fire that brings ruination and destroys konoha from the inside.

Continuously Jin tries to coat his body with wind chakra and block off the water that is raining down on him relentlessly, while infusing his training blade with wind attribute chakra. The goal is to create a wind release version of the Raikage's lighting armor. Yet this path is not paved smooth.

Shallow cuts and lacerations were opened on Jin's skin due to the wind chakra grazing too close to his body. The pain only made Jin more irritable and his anger simmering steadily in his mind, fueling his determination.

Absorbed in his training he payed the black spots on the edge of his vision no mind. Surely the mara-struck that patches his body will do the rest.

I want to underline the fact that Kobeni is no slouch, especially when Jin is her teammate. Her maximum potential would be the three tomoe sharingan originally.

(Since I had no idea where to add this information in the story at the time, I decided to simply put it here.)

-Kobeni's Backstory

Kobeni is Fugaku's niece. In this story, Fugaku has an elder sister that died when Kobeni was little, causing Kobeni to be a gloomy girl. She is raised by her grandmother after her mother past away. She would have died in the third ninja war as another cannon fodder, but due to Jin's existence this is no longer possible. She would have lived gloomily and died gloomily.
