Easy Battle

The sun rose above the horizon.

But, there was no chirping of a bird in the deathly forest. The beasts that only resembled wolves in appearance but much larger howled in the distance. And the beasts roared at they rose awake.

That very sound was enough to instil fright among the humans residing at the safe point.

They became wide awake at the howls. Except for one.

"UwU, ah please not more," she mumbled in her sleep.

She turned and flipped on the hard floor as she slept like a baby. Others, while they noticed the girl, couldn't put two and two together to make four.

"How can someone sleep so carelessly in such a dangerous place?" One of them commented.

The sun was almost overhead but Selena didn't wake up.

It was time for the boss monster to appear.

Bill Ritter walked towards Selena to wake her up. She can't be allowed to sleep any longer or else she would lose her life.

"Selena, wake up! We don't have time," Bill cried.

"Ah, let me sleep a bit more," Selena put on a tantrum in her sleep.

"The beasts are about to enter the temple!" Bill shout out at her ears.

She jolted awake.

"Ow! Can't you shout a bit lighter?" Selena fussed.

"I tried but you didn't wake up," Bill confessed.

Klautz who saw everything from the sidelines shook his head in disappointment.

Selena woke up and realized that the Sun was already overhead. She scanned her surroundings as she found Klautz standing beside the statue while leaning on it.

She got up, dusted her clothes and walked towards him.

"Good afternoon," she wished him.

Klautz shrugged.

"Find a safe place, I will take responsibility for your protection as per the deal but I can't do anything if you foolishly run into monsters."

Selena nodded.

"Yes I understand, I will do as you say."

The spectators who spectated this were left shocked. Especially Steve who wasn't able to make heads or tails of the situation. All of them knew Klautz as a lone wolf, as such him teaming up with Selena was absurd.

"Have you finally decided to form your team as well?" Steve inquired.

"I ain't forming teams. She is just my client, I am protecting her for a suitable payment I received from her," Klautz replied.

'On top of that, her demonic class seems much interesting than the others mine included. I can't let go of such a rare find,' Klautz thought but he didn't voice it out.

"Ah, I see. I won't ask what you received from her if you don't want to say."

"Yeah, it would be better if you don't poke your nose in other people's transactions."

Selena looked at Steve and smiled.

'At least he is defending me, hehe', Selena thought.

"Roar," the beasts marked their presence, everyone got ready.

Klautz took out his old ninjato. The others on the other hand used the weapons they got from the devil's cradle. Klautz wasn't prepared to use his new weapon yet, cause his was too unusual for a weapon.

He needs to test it out before using it in a tooth and nail battle like this.

The beast was a large size ape, with brown hair and a protuding belly it looked to be a ton in weight, enough to crush a man by slamming its body. Its large torso and strong arms added to its danger level.

The shielders took their stance in the front preparing to block any frontal attacks. The beast didn't seem to be able to do any elemental attacks. It wasn't like an ape was going to blow fire from its mouth.

The shielders had only one objective. To protect the archers while they showered their arrows.

Klautz and Steve ran close up to the beasts to do a melee attack.

With his new gautlet's Steve's attack stat increased by 15 giving his punches a destructive touch.

Klautz was following his usual slash and run trick. But, the beasts skin was thick making him a bad match against it.

Even the archer's arrows were finding it hard to pierce its skin.

"Let's look for its achele's heel," Klautz said. With it being an ape Klautz had some idea as to where its weakness might be. It definitely has to be similar to that of a humans.

With the next opening Klautz slashed his sword between his legs.

"Roar!" the beast groaned in pain as it bled profusely.

Being in so much pain it wasn't long until the groups combined effort killed the beast.

With their new weapons they could kill the beast much easier than the previous raids.

"Today the beast was easy."

"HaHa, maybe we don't have to struggle any much as before." The participants of the raid rejoiced.

Klautz shrugged.

"It is not like you guys will be able to survive too long without water… Whether you ace the raids or not. You guys will eventually die," Klautz said to himself.

Selena was standing beside him. It doesn't take a genius to realize what he meant.

But she chose to not respond to his soliloquy.

"Selena, the raid's over. This structure is mostly safe now till tomorrow," said Kluatz as he turned to her, "So I won't be around until the next raid. Make sure you don't do anything foolish and get yourself killed!"

Selena nodded.

Klautz didn't bat an eye to her response and disappeared into the wilderness…
