Ace Copeland's POV
The abrupt end to the vacation with Pamela cast a shadow of concern and regret over my thoughts. I never imagined that leaving Meredith alone in the house, trusting Matthew to watch over her, would result in such an unsettling revelation.
It seemed to validate the apprehensions I had harbored all along about her being left unattended, despite the presence of nurses, Mary, and a cadre of guards and maids.
Meredith, though surrounded by a support system, had always been fiercely independent. She held onto a silent strength, an aversion to burdening others with her troubles and pain.
This stoic demeanor, I now realized, was a consequence of my own past actions. During her childhood, I had scolded her repeatedly for what I perceived as excessive whining, inadvertently teaching her the art of enduring silently.
In the current delicate state of her pregnancy, the consequences of her learned resilience became glaringly apparent.
