At approximately 9:10 the following morning, I went through the revolving door of the Obsidian Building and went to the lobby. I chose a simple white shirt, black blazer, dress pants and smart shoes to make the best impression on the first day, together with a Rolex that Kyungbae and my mother gave me for my graduation.
I thought maybe I was too careful about my appearance, but when I entered the lobby, I remembered that I was lying on the floor in my casual clothes, and I was glad that I didn't like the appearance of the little boy at all. When I showed my ID at the turnstile, the two guards didn't seem to match two and two.
Twenty floors later, I was walking down the hallway of Jung and Park LLC. After walking to the end of the hallway, I arrived at an open space divided into cubicles. One was mine and I went straight for it.
I dropped my bag in the bottom drawer of my handy metal desk and booted up my computer. I brought a few things to personalize my space and pulled them out, one framed collage of three photos, me and Jimin on Jeju Beach. My mother and Kyung-bae were on a yacht, and my father was on duty next to a police car in Southern California. The other item was a colourful arrangement of glass flowers that Jimin gave me as a "first-day gift" that morning. I stuck it next to a small group of photos.
"Good morning, Taehyung!"
I got up and faced my boss. "Good morning, Mr Jung."
"Don't be so formal, please call me Hobi. Please come to my office."
As I followed him down the hallway, I realized that my new boss was so much fun to look at with his shiny skin, and smiling brown eyes, and he seemed to be like the sun personified. His slender and slightly elongated features and charming smile. He carried a confident demeanour that evoked happiness, trust and respect. He pointed to one of the two seats in front of the glass and chrome desk, waiting for me to take a seat. With the sky and skyscrapers in the background, Hobi looked competent and powerful.
He turned and smiled. "Have you settled into your new apartment?"
"Mostly," I replied. "There are some unopened boxes here and there."
"You moved here from California, right? It's a nice city, but very different from Seoul. Do you miss the palm trees?"
"I'll miss it, but not now. The weather here takes some getting used to."
"Wait until the season changes," he smiled. "So... Today is our first day. Me, as a manager and you, as my first assistant, so you'll have to take your time and work things out. I'm not familiar with delegation, but I'm sure you'll get it out in no time."
I immediately felt at ease. "I look forward to being delegated." I smiled.
"Having you here is a big step for me, Taehyung. I want you to enjoy working here with me. Would you like some coffee? "
"Coffee is one of my roommate's main food groups."
"Oh, what a sophisticated roommate you have my dear assistant." His smile widened.
I grinned, "Haha. I have no problem identifying good coffee."
"So, what do you drink? I'm sad that I have nothing else for you." He stroked the back of his neck shyly.
"Hot chocolate is fine. For now, how about getting to know the accounts we'll be working on?"
The rest of the time flew by, Hobi made contact with two of his clients and had lengthy meetings with the other team of creatives working on his idea of an English school concept for a music video. From initial idea to execution, it was a fascinating process to see first-hand how the different departments worked together to execute the campaigns. I could have stayed longer just to get a feel for the office layout, but at 8:05 pm the phone rang.
"Jung's office, Taehyung speaking. "
"Take your little plump butt home. We will go drinking, you can't say no. You already raincheck yesterday."
Jimin's stern voice made me smile. "Okay, okay, I'm going."
I shut down my computer and cleaned it up. When I got to the elevator line, I pulled out my phone and sent Jimin a short "I'm on my way home" message. There was a sound telling me the elevator car was parked on my floor, I approached and stood in front to press the open button. When the door opened, I took a step forward and as I looked up to see where I was going, black eyes met mine.
I held my breath - the sex god was the lone dweller inside. His tie was silver and his shirt was stark white, the complete absence of colour accentuating those astonishing black irises. The figure seemed to hit a wall I didn't know was there. I immediately stopped and looked at the man, who was even more impressive than I remembered.
I've never seen anyone styled like that. It was shiny, and a little long, and the ends wafted up his collar. It's a sexy length that was like whipped cream topped on a hot fudge brownie sundae, a bud over a successful businessman. It was the culmination of every man's dream boy.
As my mother used to say, "Only thugs and pirates have sinful hair like that."
I was busy staring at the man in front of me. With the urge to touch his hair, I want to see if it felt similar to rich silk. The doors began to close on me, he stepped forward a little and pushed the button on the flap to keep it open.
"There's plenty of space for the two of us, Taehyung."
"How did you know my name?" I asked bluntly then I remembered he picked up my ID when I left it in the lobby.
For a moment I thought of telling him he was waiting for someone to stop another car, but my brain started spinning again. 'What the hell was wrong with me? Of course, he'd work in the same building, I need to be used to looking at him'
I got in the elevator. "thank you."
He let go of the button and backed away, the door closed and we began to descend. I immediately regretted sharing the car with him. His presence made my skin tingle. He was a force within such a small enclosure, exuding this visible energy and sex appeal, leaving me swaying restlessly at my feet. My breathing became as irregular as my heartbeat. As if he was radiating a silent signal and I was instinctively ready to respond.
"Are you enjoying your first day?" he asked, surprising me. His voice echoed in an enchanting rhythm and flowed over me.
"How did you know it was my first day? And, yes. I had fun today." I replied calmly.
I felt his gaze sweep over my profile, but I kept my attention on the brushed aluminium elevator door. My heart was pounding and my stomach was quivering like crazy, I felt confused and out of my game.
"Well, it wasn't my first," he replied, slightly amused. "Today was a hard one, but things got better with time."
I nodded and held back my smile without knowing what it meant. On the 12th floor, the car slows down and a friendly group of three walks in having a lively chat. I backed away to make room for them and retreated to the corner of the elevator away from Mr Savagely Beautiful. Only he dodged next to me, getting closer than ever before.
He adjusted his perfectly tied tie and his arm caressed mine. I took a deep breath and tried to ignore my keen perception of him by focusing on the conversation taking place in front of me.
It was impossible, he was just there, right there.
'Everything is perfect, beautiful. How hard is his body under the suit? How does it feel? How blessed is he? Or not...?'
I almost moaned in relief when the elevator landed in the lobby. Waiting impatiently for the elevator to empty, I stepped forward at the first opportunity. His hand was placed firmly on my back, out beside me, and guided me.
The feeling of his hand that touched such a vulnerable place flowed through me. We got to the turnstile and his hand were gone and I felt strangely helpless. I dared to look at him and tried to read his expression, but he was already looking at me and his face gave me nothing.
"Tae~tae!"
The sight of Jimin casually leaning against the marble pillars of the lobby changed everything. He was wearing jeans that showed off his thick legs and a soft brown oversized sweater that accentuated his eyes. Easily got everyone's attention in the lobby. As we slowed down and approached him, the sex god slipped past us, through a revolving door, and smoothly slid into the back of his SUV, the chauffeur-driven black Bentley I had seen on the side of the road the night before.
Jimin whistled as the car started. "Well. From the way I saw things, I'm guessing he was the man you were talking about?"
"Oh, yeah. It was him."
"Are you working together?" Jimin wrapped his arms around me and pulled me through the doors and onto the street.
"No," I answered as pedestrians walk around us, I suddenly felt tired. "I don't know who he is, but he asked me if I had a good first day, so I need to know who he is soon."
"Hmm…" he grinned and held my elbow as he hopped awkwardly from foot to foot."I don't know how people close to him can do anything. Just look at his face!"
"I'm sure it's a universal effect." I straightened up. "Let's go. I need a drink."
